If your curious about beading and bead embroidery but don't want to make a large investment to try it some inexpensive dollar store beads may help give you a idea if its for you .Bead embroidery is my favorite but can b e very time consuming and tedious which is not for everyone .
If you enjoy my videos and would like to see more you can support my channel thru purchases at my shop www.etsy.com/shop/turtlesoupbeads
Unfortunately videos not only take many hours of my time but have actual production costs involved I prefer to keep my videos free for all and greatly appreciate all those who support my channel through my shop - thank you
I purchase all the products I use so I can give a honest and unbiased review .My original designs are free to use in all your personal work for craft fairs and art shows however if you are to copy them for sale or reproduction in videos or on the internet you need my express written permission

Use the Dollar Store weekly pill organizers to sort and store these beads instead of the flimsy clamshell packages.

You can easily remove the labels printed on the lids with acetone as well. Some of the lids aren't very secure though.

I've also bought the same beads from the Dollar Tree and have used the green ones to make beaded trees and also the shorter hex shaped bugle pieces to make earrings and as fill ins on memory wire bracelets. One pair of earrings were strung on coated beading stringing wire and another on memory wire. Even though they're cheap they still have many purposes to serve. It's so refreshing to see a video like this because not everyone can afford miyuki, Swarovski, and toho beads. There's often items at the Dollar Tree that I find and am able to implement in various crafting projects. You never know what you can create with a little imagination and a few dollars. Thanks so much for sharing!

Additionally, when I first started beading I actually used dental floss also purchased at the Dollar Tree. Dental floss is virtually made just like nymo and already comes waxed so you don't have to worry about thread conditioner.

I absolutely love this video! I am a seedbeader and my stash of beads is quite excessive, thanks in part to 10 years of going to the Bead & Button Show! Before that, I started out with cheaper starter packs of beads and learned that beading was for me. But even some of those starter packs were expensive and could be cost prohibitive for those who want to see if beading is a hobby they’d enjoy. I think these dollar store beads are a great way for people to try something to see if they’d like it. As always, I appreciate the time you put into making these videos. Whether it is a new technique, color combination, or some tip or trick, I always learn something. Thank you, Susan!

Hi Liz, Read your comments and agree with you 100%. You will be sad to learn that the Bead and Button magazine as well as the show no longer exist. Both of these were handled by Kalmback Publishing company. According to them they say that there is no longer a profitable market for them to sell the magazine. Due to the pandemic they decided to permanently close the bead show that occurred every year in Wisconsin. Also blamed decrease attendance and profit margin as other reasons to discontinue the events and services. I just learned all of this last month when I tried to subscribed to Bead and Button. I also learned that Beadwork magazine has issued their final magazine this month 10/2021. So it seems that in the space of two short years the published beading world as become extinct. I have been beading since 2003. I was very disappointed with Kalmback and Interweave Publishers decisions. There is more to beading than profit margins. Sorry this is so long. Sometimes you just have to vent to someone else who understands.

I needed to find a creative project for a course I am taking. I have to put a workshop together for other mental health workers to do with Cancer patients and their families, people who are have depression. Or other illnesses. I needed something that would not cost a lot because most often I do these workshops for free. I have to make a short video but I needed to make sure I gave you credit for the ideas. I have to get this done pretty quickly and make a video with the how to work shop for practitioners. I don’t think you realize how you are helping people with your videos. This helps the brain because it is tactile. What you made I thought were beautiful and I would wear those even though they are dollar store beads. Thank you 🙏 and know you are a blessing for many people.

I agree she could so easily sell those at My local flea market but how long do they take to make if it is longer then one hour you might not get enough of an hourly pay. However if you use the better made beads you won't find People that see the difference in the high end stuff either. All they want is a bargain. I sell Hand Made Earrings and Wire Wrapped Pendants In Sterling. I sometimes have to keep a piece for a couple Weekends Before The Right Person Comes Along. Then They BUY 6 or 7 PIECES ALL AT THE SAME TIME. In order to make it worth it to be there I also sell Toys and Bubble Wands and some hand sewn Items

Wonderful demonstration with Dollar Tree beads. I have plenty of good quality seed beads so I won’t bother with the cheap ones but this is a great way for someone to get started beading without going broke in the process and then deciding it isn’t something they really want to do.

WOW, these are really gorgeous!!! I buy those all the time for projects where it doesn't matter. These cheapie beads are also pretty good for gluing onto poly clay journal covers. Again, it takes a little fussing, but they work! I sculpted a large humming bird onto a journal cover and crusted with with beads. It was gorgeous!!!

Oh goodness you have talent, from someone like me who been beading for a few years and susan I absolutely understand,In what we call quality beading Higher Grade of Beads ,you are right on point, if you want Artisan Quality, then you really do have to buy better beads Absolutely it is an investment of money and time,One of my biggest reasons For loving your beading work You're never skimpy Meaning you use high-quality beads not Japanese or Cheap gemstones,All of your jewelry is well worth the price you charge,Thank you for sharing this experience especially for people who don't want to spend a lot of money.I know how expensive it is. Again thank you so much sorry I was so long-winded LOL

No bad beads, just happy little accidents. You just have to have an eye for the differences and match them up. Hobby lobby Chinese beads are very uneven but you get some long, some short, and some medium. Also, if you want crystals, thrift stores will have vintage beaded blouses and dresses for $2-6 an item. You can cut a lot of really nice vintage beads and crystals off without having to order online and break the bank. Also Unique buttons and medallions. Just have to have the eye.

Hi Susan, guess what? I am actually learning to do beading and am enjoying it. I am using RU-vid to be my tutors and am finding it not as intimidating as I thought it was. So far have made only earrings and as I get familiar with the brick and peyote will start with a bigger project. Thank you Susan, you are my inspiration to learn more besides wire and clay!! And yes, beads are expensive!!!!!

Ha, I bought the same colours and the pink trays, I bought them specifically for boho dream catchers, I combine them with other beads, surprisingly for the most part, they turned out beautifully, so using these are not a complete loss...and you are right..we can "fool the eye" by using our imagination, like you, I know the expense in buying the better quality beads (I'm a beader) my inventory consists of seed beads in various sizes from size 10-11, I have 2 & 3 cuts in sizes 9, 10, 11 & 12, I have charolettes in sizes 13 & 15, my favorite to use are the delica beads size 11 which I use for jewelry (earrings, hair pieces), from thrifts stores, yard sales, I've collected hundreds of used necklaces that I've taken apart, necklaces that contain various beads, from bone to glass, from crystals to wood, and gun metal beads to plastic, combining and using your imagination, designs are endless....who knows maybe someday I will become a "you tuber" and share my hundreds of ideas for those who cannot afford the more expensive beads...last but definitely not least , your work is beautiful!
