We don't have a dollar store any where near us but I sure enjoy going to the thrift stores. You are right, if A person has an open mind, you can find some useful items for camping and other outdoor pursuits at these type stores.

You must be Canadian. The items that you have are exactly the same as the Dollar Stores in Regina. Thanks for the idea for the Utensil Holder, Hobo stove. They have them and 'm getting one. I have a Lixada stove but what the heck, I also love to experiment. I also bought the Fire Starters. I have yet to try a Ferro Rod light on one, so they may or may not work. But they do work well if you use a match or lighter on them. I like making my own Cotton Ball and Saw Dust Wax starters. But, for a $1.25 for 12, can't beat those either. Recently, the Dollar Store began bringing in Camping items for the Summer. I have a Military shovel, but bought one of their for $3. Much smaller and lighter. All metal parts. Great for digging a fire pit or a hole for bathroom duties so you can cover it up. The Blow Up Pillows work excellent and are light. Also the collapsible water bucket works great. Both the pillows and bucket have their own stuff sacks and are small. Too many other items to mention. BTW, you're also correct on the Bisquick Biscuit Mix. I bought and use this quite a bit, and they are very tasty. There are so many things that you can use off the shelf or with slight modifications. Thanks for the video. All My Best.

+mustang774 Sure, tell us about your upcoming videos (I think you suggested this one, but I'm interested), and some more about your thoughts about RU-vid in general--your goals for your channel, how much time you spend on it, what you've learned from others. Any or all of those questions, thanks!

Thanks for your video, almost all of my gear is cheap or very cheap, I choose them according to the work they have to do, so some things are expensive,I believe that you purchase them for the work they have to do the stuff you bought are definitely good, maybe you are going to have a little difficulty with the fire starter but it will be working, i think you scrape them a little fluffy or split them for a beter flame catching (may also lie with the manufacturer) i have to do this for my wood stove the orginazers are a good idea thank you for showing Steve
@mustang774
@mustang774 8 лет назад
+so steve Thanks for the info about the firestarter. I had the stick form ones before and you pretty much need to light them with a lighter. I always carry a lighter just in case. I agree not all gear must be expensive to work, especially the small stuff. Thanks for the comments and for following my adventures...Take care, Bluefin.

All good ideas. I shop dollarama quite often for outdoor stuff. I bought the same fire starters. Smelled like they were soaked in perfume. I have them in the quad just in case.

I just bought one of those utensil holders for the purpose of turning it in to a portable camping wood stove in case it was to windy for the jet boil classic trail stove; I do have hobo stoves but that stainless steel utensil holder will last a lot longer than an apple juice can or tomato can. I did use the alcohol stoves to but I don't like the black carbon left on the cooking pot afterwards. I usually end up using the alcohol (95% ethanol) as boy scout juice to get a wood fire going fast.

I am not much of a cook... I like boiled eggs and boiled potatoes, cans of Irish stew, (sometimes I carry ramen noodles but that isn't very filling,) I am not up to the level of making bannock bread l'm being lazy :)

It works well as a stove with a few quick and easy mods I did. Here is the result: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KHSeHS2PhTM.html This another video link about the alcohol I use for my stoves. I get no soot at all from this. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hXByUDQ35pM.html. Thanks for subscribing to my adventures. I hope you enjoy my content......Take care, Bluefin.

Ok, I have a couple of questions...I'd like to know what you do, or did for a living. How you got into YT, and who was your main influence, as far as enjoying outdoor activities was. You seem pretty diverse in your skills and hobbies and I think it would be interesting to learn more about what influenced you.

Great finds! I got one of them utensil holders last time I was in town, no, 2 of them. What part of NFLD are you from? Is the weather different for the different places there. IE. I think St John's get a lot of snow and rain in the winter, what about your area and others? Are there a lot of moose in your area? Cheers!

Not all the items I showed are in my videos. The utensil holder turned into a stove is here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KHSeHS2PhTM.html The Blueberry muffin mix is here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hPm8FDswdnI.html. The mesh bags I keep my cordage in one, my cutlery and kitchen gear in another and my maps in the large one.The biscuit mix I baked up the same way as the blueberry muffin. The small pot I kept as a tea bag holder for when I'm at work. I didn't need a small camp pot. I hope you check out these videos and thanks for taking the time to comment.....Take care, Bluefin.
