I died laughing when you put the dollar tree cheese on. I knew that shit wasn’t gonna melt. Your house could catch on fire and that cheese will be the only thing standing 🤣🤣🤣
My first time buying it, I put it on some nachos in the oven and the chips started to burn and the cheese was virtually unscathed. Then I put it in the microwave and you could hear it whizzing in the microwave, but still never really waivered. I was so pissed. I was trying to make nachos on a budget. Then I read the package and seen that it said "Cheese style topping".
@@ditherdather they actually do sell cheese that melts at both my local dollar tree's, its a jack cheese with jalapeño, if you see on a corner it will say made with milk sooo yeah not sure if its different on all of the dollar tree's or what...oh there's american cheese that also melts but its salty af i would stick to the white jack
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UKfmRhfuI8g.html this may be presented as semi-humorous (exaggerated Russian accent) but, TBH, is great too
Dude don't eat shit from dollar tree, learn how to cook and make inexpensive meals. Learn how to garden. Gardening is a great thing to do. I get so much veggies that I give them to the neighbors also tacos rice and beans stuff like that is cheap to make. You don't have to be rich to eat healthy. I'm poor but I do it in style.
I remember being broke eating your dinners and recipes. They really helped. I’ll never forget that, it keeps you humble, respectful and most of all kind. Thank you.
Dawg 😭 In my experience, if you hit dollar tree and get the small bags of cheese, they’re real. Learned the hard way trying to make pizza with the big bag of flavored plastic 😭😭
I just watched a video about people who don't even have grocery stores in their own neighborhood because poor neighborhoods have too many risks involved according to the banks. Basically still using redlining maps to determine where they make investments until gentrification. I'll travel to "third world" countries and see nothing but independent merchants selling fresh produce on the corner. We are industrialized and regulated to the detrement of people in order for big business to succeed. United States Inc. makes me sick.
Saying that doesnt feed 8 people just makes me realize how fat some of us are and how bad we over eat(And I used to over eat somethin' fierce). After my family lived with my Grandparents for awhile, we got used to cooking for like 9 people+some left overs, so when we did finally get our own house and my sister moved out, we continued to cook for 9 for quite awhile. It took some convincing my mom and brother that we dont need to make that much anymore.
I am fortunate enough to not have to worry about having food on my plate but I will say things that would serve 5 people that I could previously eat alone is not the same when you reach your 20’s. I can barely finish a serving for one now a days. Made me realize how much I used to eat
@@jadyn3191 it honestly might not be that much for 2-3 ppl based on calories forget about the size of it id say half of that frittata thing is about 350-375 cals
Fr, I’m definitely not in any hard times rn but hearin him say people were complaining bout how that frittata could never feed 8 people made me grimace bruh. Like y n how??
I used to overeat a lot. Before the pandemic I used to devour a 90 count bag of Tostitos pizza rolls every friday. During the pandemic I gained a lot of weight. I lost like 3/4s of it, but I still eat more than most people I'm pretty sure. If you're trying to lose weight, the key is to eat smaller portions (you dont have to change much of what you eat, but certian foods, like the pizza rolls, should go). Also, try not to eat 3hrs before bed, that goes straight to fat.
I just realized that my family hit that point where we shopped at the dollar tree for food before (I was pretty young) but I never really thought about it till now...
I think that happens way more often than people think... I, too, in retrospect, know that in my childhood there were times when my family was "squeezing dimes out of nickels"... yet, as children, we really do not notice and still enjoy the good food(even if it is cheap/inexpensive) and have fun with what we have... even if it is just making mud pies in the yard... i.e.: playing with dirt! :-)
Victor R. Food stamps really do help my family. With out it we would be starving and eating barely even a meal a day. Maybe be a little more grateful??
Or they're just disgusting pigs. That breakfast he made had a dozen eggs in it, who the hell eats a dozen eggs 8 sausages, and 6 hash browns in one meal? Who even eats half of that?
@@owllymannstein7113 a family of 6? You do the math that’s 2 eggs, a little more then 1 sausage and 1 hash brown person. Which is a decent breakfast in my own opinion
Man I could’ve used this a couple of years ago. My wife just had a baby, I had lost my job and needed to find a way to feed her so she can feed my son. I did so many odd jobs and would go a day or two without eating because all I had was enough to feed her and keep our old junker car running. This would’ve came in hand in so many ways... now thankfully I have a great job new cars and I’m closing on a house soon.. I will never forget where I was it was some dark sad times but I pushed through and I hope anyone who Is truly struggling will make most of these kid of videos.. god bless
Johnathan Lizcano i used to live on a semi truck while my sister and sometimes father lived in my grandmas home. We barely made enough and had poor credit to get a house. Its since gotten better and we have an apartment looking for a nice home, 3 cars getting 4 and 5 animals and even if we have our up’s and downs we have a roof, food, and a bed and things to entertain us. And that, id enough for me. It DOES get better and im upset i didnt see this sooner.
Just want to put it out there in case anyone needs this Walmart has a 10lb bag of Tyson leg quarters for just under $6.00. Between legs and thighs I'm sure plenty can be done with it.
Man shits rough rn, i just started a new job w a baby on the way. Up till today i havent eat for three days. Ive been giving food to my lady. I had a whole $20 to spend, i went to walmart and bought a thing of chicken breast. Hit the dollar tree and hooked it up. Lemme tell you man. It feels good when that food settled on the bottom of my stomach. Ive been watching like shoppin on a budget and seeing what we could do and so far these videos literally been some life savers. God bless brotha!!
I’m praying for you brother. I’ve seen hard times too and I know what it’s like to have to provide. It’s the most rewarding and purpose filled feeling in the end though, so I know you’ll come out on top. Stay strong, brother.
a year later and we did a complete 360! I pray for anyone struggling to make ends meet! Baby is also very healthy and very happy. God is good! Thank you guys
There were times when I was so grateful to have a whole $20.00 for a week's groceries. A lot of people have no concept of what it's really like to FEAR having no money for food. Things are a lot better for me now as I have disability and a roommie to share the food budget with. But I had to have that fear for so long, I will never forget it. It comes out in a cranky anxiety if I think we have over spent our budget, but some how we squeak by. The fear never goes away,
The fear really doesn’t. I’m not wealthy but I could eat steak every night. I don’t and won’t. I can’t. I eat healthier and appreciate that but still scared
Me and my husband have struggled for years, thankfully we were blessed with his current job! However we have been in situations where we have eaten box pasta with butter salt and pepper on several occasions. This meal can absolutely feed up to 8 people. Be THANKFUL for what you do have!
Being one of those 8 less fortunate people i can confirm that yes 1 meal a day even that amount is amazing on average for us its less than 1 meal a day usually but seeing these videos are very helpful at the very least for ideas to conserve 💰 and spread meals more.
I am that guy who became disabled and now live on a meager budget. I love the dollar tree videos because when I only have 20$ to feed my family of 3 for the week it's where I go. We are all just one accident away from the poor house. Great video Larry!!!
I don't know if health regulations or whatever will still allow this but..... Speak with the manager at your local grocery store. All that fried or baked chicken in the deli department that they don't sell by the end of the night might be available for cheep or free if you're there when they are closing and it's obvious that it won't sell. My kids grew up on that chicken & "last chance" ground beef - one is a pharmacist and one is a teacher. You'll be okay, William.
@@sickofstupidppl6969 walmart sells the end of the night chicken now. They sell it half off and let it sit in cooler for 2 days. I buy them and heat em up at home
@@mattatk92 Good to know. Plus, I know that their day-old baked goods are well priced. Often times, being on a strict budget takes some creativity. A twenty pound bag of beans, rice, etc. is out of your budget at one time but isn't all that much per pound? Maybe it could be split four or five ways with your neighbors. Doesn't hurt to ask.
I love the beginning when you gave everyone a reality check! Not everyone can afford or has access to grocery stores. I am a mom of four and sometimes we have to go to the dollar store to stretch our dollar. The grocery stores close by are way over priced.
Wolf Pit!, i love what your doing. Coming from someone who was homeless and in the streets to a busser who climbed up to a bartender/ bar manage, i love that you are doing this for people because i know what would happen if the economy made my career nothing and im sadly prepared mentally when i know some people who are scared of what would happen due to them wrapping there career around restaurants/ bars..
some people are so self centered...its not a matter of having to feed 8, its a matter of being able to. its a way to make a meal on a budget that all people need to understand
I love it when people think that they arent selfish and act all self righteous so they can make themselves feel better. Everyone is selfish in some way. Like caring about people in a struggle suddenly is weird. And im not trying to be a dick at all im just saying that everyone is selfish in some regard
He uploaded a video to his RU-vid channel for the first time in a year. I clicked immediately because I'm a subscriber. Then the legend passed away the next day. RIP Mr. Witherspoon. You are sorely missed. I hope he was able to finish filming the new Friday film and the new season of The Boondocks.
As a kid I was a brat and my mum and dad had to make do with own brand things, a toddler does not appreciate own brand 😂 however as I grew up and went off to uni (true to the stereotype) it became glaringly obvious how hard it was to survive on a very limited budget and promptly thanked my parents for helping me learn the value of food
Some ppl dont realize how good dollar tree food was when you had to rely on the bagels the bakery threw away at the end of the day as a meal as a child.
When I was 25 I worked at a horrible minimum wage job and lived in the basement of a decent sized apartment occupied by a very greedy "roommate" and I would have literally killed for food like this.I was forced to survive on 5 dollars a week for food and ate almost exclusively Raman. The days where I was somehow able to afford something else be it a box of spaghetti noodles and a can of sauce or or a cheap pack of ground beef were like Thanksgiving to me. Don't take what you have for granted, people. It can always be worse...

Here are a few ways you could make this cheaper: Instead of pre-sliced cheese, buy a cheap small roll of cheese, and slice that one. Since the pre-sliced has stuff added so it doesn't stick to the plastic, it also won't stick to the food you want it to stick to, and the real one can be stretched thinner than the fake one, in terms of giving the food a taste of cheese. Next, instead of that white mixture you added, add straight-up flour (and make sure the flour boils for at least 1-2 minutes, so it becomes safe to eat). Instead of pepperoni, you can slice and fry salami. There's also stock (chicken stock, beef stock, etc.), and the solid version (often sold as a pack of around 6-10 cubes) is cheaper, more compact, and lasts longer. If you have time but not money, you can make the pasta yourself, even if it won't look the same. Just make a dough, spread it thin and flat, cut it in slices or dices or your preferred form, and you can either store them in the fridge, where they will also freeze-dry and lose moisture (so they can absorb a sauce), or you can use them right away. You can also add sauces or condiments or fruits or vegetables directly into the dough, but, if you will use that dough to make bread or pastries which rise, add the sauce only after it already has risen once. You could even scrape some of that bitter part of the banana peels, mash it well so it mixes well, and mix that into the dough, for a slight banana taste. If you don't like apple peels, wash the apples well, and boil the peels for 1-2 minutes, then mix the boiled liquid and the apple pulp from the apple peels into the dough, and save the boiled peels for frying later. The difference between the poor people in USA and Canada and those in the rest of the world, is that the poor people in USA and Canada have neither free time nor money, while those in the rest of the world usually don't have money but have time. Honestly, there are a lot of means which are much cheaper to make in bulk from flour, than they are to buy from the store, but most of those take more time to make, but there are some which are quick and easy. No-knead dough bread is an example of the easy, and dough can stay up to 7 days in the fridge without going bad, so you could make a batch of dough and use it daily for fresh bread and pasta and pierogi/dumplings, and so on. I feel that a lot of those recipes intended for poor people assume those people have no free time, which is in most cases not true. For example, you could use 1 kg (2 lb) of flour to make 5-6 different foods in a weekend day, and have them last the whole week. Pasta (with and without added flavours), flour-based food wrappers (like tortilla, spring-roll wrappers, lumpia wrappers, shawarma/burito wrappers, and so on), dumplings ready to boil or fry, corn dogs (even if you use something like a boiled beans-and-rice mixture for the interior), pizza sandwiches (olives, fried salami, cheese, and tomato sauce mixed with a bit of vinegar, between two sealed bread halves), fries and chips/crisps/puffs (yes, you can make them from entirely flour, but you can also add flavours to the chips themselves, instead or aside of to the outside of the chips), doughnuts of all shapes and forms (especially putting softer cheese or dryer cheese into dough balls and frying them, or even fruits and vegetables), expanding jam by adding flour to it (which also makes it more jelly like when it's colder, but also melts when warmer/hotter), homemade pizza (if you want thin crispy pizza, you can also use aluminium foil / tinfoil sheeting on the metal grills, instead of a baking tray, to get a nice browning in a short time without heating a baking stone or baking steel/iron), and so on. Google "clean fifteen" (or "clean 5") and "dirty dozen" (or "dirty 12"), or both of those in the same search, to get a list of fruits and vegetables which can be washed and eaten, and a list of fruits and vegetables which must have their peels discarded, due to toxic/poisonous pesticides used on them.
When I moved out for grad school, I was put on to dollar tree. I struggled to eat and was scared I would not have food. But that place helped me out soo much. I think this content is a great idea so we can all learn together how to cook something while struggling.
Dollar tree accepts coupons so y’all can save even more money! Some items are completely free if you have $1.00 off coupons. Hope this helps someone out.
I got too excited when I got the coupons in my bag lol. But I was too afraid to use them there, since it was the Dollar Tree. I practically live there lol
@@skinni_the_P00hBear - don't be afraid or embarrassed. They collect the coupons and get whatever was taken off back from the company that issued the coupon. So if you have a coupon for $1 off the store (dollar tree, Walmart, ShopRite Publix / whatever) get $1 in the mail for every coupon they send in. That's why they have to collect the physical coupon and not a photocopy of one.
Watching your videos especially during the quarantine with being laid off helps me save money on food and finding the best tasting cheap foods. Thank you!

I have tried many of your "eating on a budget" meals before. They are all delicious and filling. I thank you very much. You are very entertaining, as well. I love your sense of humor!!
I like that you talked about how people may not be able to afford more than what's found at a Dollar Tree. Dollar stores such as Dollar Tree, Dollar General, and Family Dollars can be the only places with foods found in 'food deserts' across the country.
I'm glad to see Hormel pepperoni, and not one of the brands that were recently recalled in your area over concerns about listeria. We, the people don't want to see you, the Larry get sick
I just wanted to tell you how much your videos mean to my family and I. I truly appreciate all the hard work you put in and you have definitely made our life better during a hard time we are facing. Thank you again 💕
You have an adorable personality. I lost a lot of hours on my last job and I had to go to the food bank. Now I have a good job but, I still live cheaply. I am starting a savings. These videos will help me build my bank account by shopping less. Thank you. Peace be with you.
Thank you for doing these videos! You are right, so many people take even the smallest things for granted and don't understand what it's like to truly not have enough to eat. I have been at both ends of the spectrum: I've had it all and I've been briefly homeless, and I learned to never take anything for granted, things can change in an instant. I do know what it's like to be hungry, and not have enough to get full. Keep doing what you're doing, and please all of you nice people out there: count your blessings and don't think that it could never happen to you. Be kind to one another, all we have is each other!
Your contributions, especially these low budget meals, are a blessing to those less fortunate. I've been there myself many times. Not trying to knock any wind out of your sail but a lot of people can't afford internet or a phone that has access to RU-vid. I personally can't think of another way to get this information out to those people I don't know maybe try to get the videos shown in shelters or other places or maybe to the people who run the shelters so they can suggest it to people we're struggling. Just a thought. I commend you on all you and your wife are doing is fantastic! Just trying to figure out a way to get the message around all the people that's all
Most public libraries have Internet access, and for about 10 cents per page you can print out the recipe. Perhaps someone could do this, and give them out at shelters.
This video was a random video that popped up on my feed, I only stopped to watch it because I saw that he was highlighting food insecurity and hunger struggle. I LOVE THAT! We need more RU-vid stars doing that. It always bothers me when I see people wasting huge amounts of food for entertainment, and I have encouraged them to use those videos to highlight a charity that fights hunger in America. Thanks for being a voice for these struggles. You’ve gained a viewer.
You are doing a real service for people. There’s always someone who has to find something to complain about like they get paid to do it. Keep on keeping on.
I mean, it was probably just mediocre. People should really stop overreacting and see that it's not some terrifying lab-grown monstrosity, it's just a vaguely cheese-like product full of preservatives. Obviously, it's not a quality product, but if you're dirt poor it's fine.
Literally nothing is wrong with cheese that doesn’t melt, one ingredient (water) is prioritized more than milk. Those are sandwich slices anyway so not meant to be put in actual dishes, hence why it isn’t supposed to melt.
Humble answers to the negative comments. This is why you are successful on your platform sir. I personally don't have to eat "struggle" meals but I really just enjoy watching your content. Keep it up!
A huge benefit of the Dollar Tree that you didn't mention. There are a lot of people that live in a food desert and stores like the Dollar Tree or 7-11 are the only place they can buy food. Not everyone has the luxury of access to an actual grocery store. So thank you for focusing on these kind of stores.
Gilbert Garcia man you can go through the struggle and still not understand this struggle cheese , we might of been poor but my mama made sure we had good cheese, it’s other great dishes to create on a budget he’ll my mama use to make fried spam ,with honey ,and eggs toasted on sliced bread.
"forced to work for minimum wage" that is a sad statement. minimum wage used to be the minimum amount you could reasonably live off of. now a days its more about the bare minimum that they can get away with paying you.
Yes. The government needs to re-asses minimum wage by county or district. Its an absolute joke. You have big corporations raking in billions a year only paying their workers $8.25/h in a county that requires a minimum of $2000/m of net income to survive. I don't agree with it. Either big companies need to grow up and quit being greedy or the government needs to step in and say "look, we gave you an opportunity to give back to the economy yourself, and all you're doing is nickel and diming your workers so we're going to make you." Places like McDonalds, Wendys, Walmart, Amazon, Microsoft, Comcast, R&L carriers, and numerous other large companies should start at $10-$13/hr depending on state, county and average living costs.
twocvbloke in all fairness bacon fat when heated enough turns into a plastic coating. Its what seasons cast iron. Any oil becomes like that. The reason the cheese product probably doesnt melt is it doesnt have enough fat. It will burn instead
Yeah this has been explained several ways and times. Natural cheese melts while process cheese more like burns because of the higher fat content in natural cheese. That is all.
I love the point you made in the beginning...when my daughter was born, I was eating ramen to make sure she and my wife could get decent food. A lot of people don't realize how hard it can be at times, and even if you're well-off now, it doesn't mean you will be later on down the road because anything can happen.
I tried this recipe for the first time tonight. Made a few adjustments with what I had on hand, shrunk it down to a smaller sized casserole, and now it’s going to be a staple in our house because my boyfriend loves it as much as I do 😃❤️
I think what this man is doing is awesome and sincere. I grew up in a very poor family and this was a time before anyone besides well off people had a credit card, and most were not on any well fare of any kind. There were times when we did okay, and were able to eat some good meals, but there were times when we'd eat biscuits for breakfast, lunch and dinner, or dry cereal if we had it, or sometimes nothing at all. My mother worked full time, but my dad was sick for some time after they got married and there were no welfare programs, etc. to help us out. For years, we barely got by, but I can promise you that very few of you have actually went without food, to the point that your home's kitchen was out of milk, bread, meat, and so on. That was life for me and my family many times, where we would split a dry box of cereal. I'm not sure if many of you remember, but much of the food we had was the food in the plain white boxes because we usually couldn’t accord the brand name items. So for those of you acting as if you are better, remember that you were just privileged to be born in a different home, and could have easily been born in one without money, or if you are an adult, you could easily be in an city without the job market you now enjoy. Life is much better now for me, and I have a family of my own. We certainly have lived much better, and have never wondered where our next meal was coming from, but many do today, and people that make proactive choices like this man, to help others is nothing short of a godsend. SO instead of bellyaching about how you would rather eat "healthier", watch something else or extend a thank you to this man for helping countless others. And to The Wolfe Pit, I hope you are able to continue to make these helpful videos because I know you are helping more than you'll ever truly know.
Cheese that doesn't melt has a low concentration of fat so it doesn't melt but burn. Processed cheat has almost no fat. Hence the no melt but was creamy. Higher fat content = melt. Food science.
Haha it’s hardly cheese at this point... Probably close to 50% emulsifiers/preservatives like sodium phosphate, potassium phosphate, and tartrate. It’s best not to think about these things.
Reminds me of when i was little my mom and dad would barley make enough to scrap up for food. I obviously didnt know at the time, but man I can see it now. Were stable now, taking care of 7 people and two cattos!
Dear Mr.WolfePit: Thank you for posting your videos. Your effort to educate people on how to get by in these tough times is very Noble. Most of us haven't ever had to go hungry, but I have. I've always had to be creative with a budget of $150 a month for groceries. New ideas are always greatly appreciated. Thank you, and stay safe.
Man your 5$ breakfast could easily feed a family of 6. I'm a big boy that likes to eat, and even split into 8ths those are some big slices. People are dumb and will find anything to complain about.
@Chris M Come on, Chris. As a fellow big boy who likes to eat, I can't believe you would be satisfied with anything less than 25% of that skillet if it by itself were the entire meal. As for me, I would probably eat at least half of it and be sorry later that I did.
Spend another dollar and get a bag of flour tortillas and turn those slices into tacos would definitely be more filling or a small loaf of bread for toast
I've spent the last hour, maybe, watching the "Cooking on a Budget" series - what a lot of useful things I have learned. Recipe ideas, and cooking tips for those on low incomes - some of these dishes would feed me for days! You know, you've probably helped a lot of struggling people with these videos, and you deserve thanks for that!
I love the canned pasta sauce I much prefer it actually. I’ve been to Italy and most of the pasta that I’ve had reminded me more of hunts sauce rather than the more expensive stuff like Prego.
If it weren’t for that unmelted cheese, that would look delicious. I might have to pay an extra dollar or so to get cheese that actually melted, or just go cheese-less.
Agreed, it doesn't look bad but yeah, I would want the better quality cheese that actually melts. Ive been on both sides of the coin. i remimber times where mcdonalds was a luxury meal and stuff like beans and lentals in water with salt was the best we could afford or as i remimber it the year of the hotdog and the bologna. IF we were lucky we got cheese too. Sometimes bread. I have also been lucky enough to make so much money that i could eat out twice a day and bearly dent my budget and have a few times. Anytime i start to scoff at "poor people food" i remimber those lean meals and my parents stress to provide that and stfu knowing it wouldnt take much to drive me back to that. All it takes is one bad enough turn to leave you eyeing ramen as a luxury item and rat roast or other dont ask meals to sound appealing.
When I was an alcoholic me and my roommate lived off of Gwaltney Bologna sandwiches and we would take dozens of packets of mayo and mustard from 7-11 so it wouldn't be a dry sandwich. 99¢ loaf of white bread 99¢ loaf of Bologna and free condiments. $2 would last 2-3 days and we would spend hundreds on alcohol every week. It was like the universe was talking to us because what we found insife that box was a gourmet loaf of sweet Bologna from Lebanon PA. I'm talking about a giant loaf uncut you would see in the deli window. I look back now and just can't wrap my head around that. Here we were living off of Bologna sandwiches for breakfast lunch dinner and 4th meal and we were using the cheapest Bologna available and the sandwich gods bestowed upon us a $80 loaf of Lebanon Bologna. Wow man we went to town on that thing. We laughed and laughed at the irony but looking back it's seems like a glitch in the matrix or maybe even a angel looking out for us. I still can't believe it and if you ever have the chance to get Lebanon Bologna do it. It's fucking crazy delicious. God bless.
I'm lucky enough to attend college, but I do not have the budget to order fast food every day. Thank goodness videos like this are out there to show that you can make satisfying meals on a budget.
This is actually something my mom and I used all the time when we were on food stamps or when we were budgeting. Super filling and super cheap, and depending if you can get that GOOD sauce, very very tasty. Another meal thats filling but super good is mashed potatoes, gravy, ground beef (as much as you want) and white bread.
I don’t wanna sound like I’m bragging or anything but me and my dad who’s a neurosurgeon watched this being and both of us were drooling. We also laughed about the cheese not melting which was hysterical because you could burn a whole forest down and the cheese would still be solid. But honestly man, just keep doing what your doing because it’s a life saver for a lot of communities.
I remember growing up and watching my mom scrounge the house for any change she could find because there was no food in the house and she had 6 kids to feed dinner. That night all she had enough for was the cheapest box of pasta and a can of tomatos. It's those memories that make me feel humble and greatly appreciate my mom's struggle. I even eat that from now and again because it was delicious.
