I love this idea. I too will be adding a 4th chain to make it easier to balance. Plus, try out colored gems. But the one idea no one else mentioned is gluing a mirror to the bottom to reflect the light, thus making the lantern brighter.

Very beautiful! You could even put 3 or 4 solar lights in the top to make it even brighter!!

It is a great idea the only thing different I would do is add more solar lights to be brighter ... As many as I could fit

If you want a quick permanent hold that will not fall apart. I would mix EE 6000 with Hot glue. They were great together.

Very beautiful! Only thing different that I would do is add another chain link to the fourth side to give look of symmetry and balance. But other than that, definitely a GREAT diy!

I love it. I think I will use the mesh from the garbage cans , only because I think the DT mat will yellow in the sun over time.

I love this idea. I just wish I could figure out how to keep them outdoors for years to come. The dollar tree decor I bought only lasted a year or two. We have rain several times a year.

This is the one! Tina you definitely did it on this one. Ive watched dozens of solar DIYs as an avid hobbiest myself. The materials are pro Dollar Tree so they're not hard to find. I would like to find a square material to make them. Just a personal preference. Then line them up in groups to light up the landscape. If you have deck stairs or banisters these would be really lovely as well as functional. Thanks for your idea. A stand up one.

I would use the e6000 glue on the top screen because when this sits out in the hot sun it will melt the hot glue and the screen and light will fall out and yes a 4th chain or balance the 3 better so it doesn’t tilt to on side , otherwise very cute good job.

This was a great DIY. I made a pair of lamps using the solar lights, I keep them setting in my dining room bay window and at night they give off good light. I wouldn't change anything about the way you made them. Thanks for sharing.

I think I might put it on one of the dollar tree mop handles so it could stand up

I love this idea! l think using larger frames then using a Dollar Tree lobby dust pan handle to insert the solar light into would make a great, tall lantern to put into a yard.

yess! so on time. i was just looking on Amazon and pricing outdoor lanterns. even though I am interested in adding more solar lights per lantern it will still be cost-effective for me to make them myself. I want to do a few for the steps outside and a few for the tops of the post. thank you this was such a great idea.

I love it. The only thing I'd do differently is get some thicker screen from a craft store to save money and get better quality for outdoor purposes and I'd get my own chain so it was hanging from either 2 sides or all 4, but this is a super cute idea!

I would put a mirror on one side and the bottom instead of the mat.

Love it!!! I'm a fan of solar lights. I would put a mirror on the bottom, it will double your light.

If hanging it you can by an additional chain and use one section to balance out the way it hangs.

This is really cool! I originally thought you'd glued the glass beads to the glass in the frame and I thought "Gee, that's going to be really heavy!". Nope, I was wrong 😂 Hoping I can find similar bath mats here in RSA so that I can try this out.
