Good hack! It wouldn't bend like comic book boards sometimes do. Don't throw the small piece leftover from cutting the foam board. You can use it to wrap binding on. 🙂
@threadsbyelle6077
@threadsbyelle6077 Год назад
I do the same only using my ruler. It’s easy to slide out and I don’t have that extra bulk. No to mention the added expense. I have too much fabric to stand on end. My shelves are deep enough to make two rows so I just stack mine. Folding fabric like this with a consistent size is so helpful to keep organized. Thanks for sharing. 👍

Great idea! The small leftover pieces could be used to wrap bias binding tape. Also, I had to max my volume to hear you. Thanks for posting.

You can buy comic boards on Amazon 100 for less than $9 and don’t have to cut anything to use them. I’ve gotten 200 for about $12 they work awesome and I’ve gotten over 8 yards of fabric on one. Easier and not much more for a whole lot less work!

Thanks. I folded the way you did around a ruler, pulled the ruler and then made a stack and put into my basket on the edge. This way I can see all the colors like you. I need to put my fabrics out of sight for some reason. I get weird seeing all my unused fabric all the time, lol. I think I love it too much.

II've been using foam board for my fabric, but I cut it to 12" tall which lets me simply fold my 44-45 quilting fabrics from the store in half lengthwise then wrap it. That leaves me with a little bit of the foam board to rest on my shelves rather than the fabric and I don't have to make that extra fold to get it on the board.

If you Live in a wet and humid climate DON'T USE FOAMBOARDS ask me how i know lol... The foamboards sweat against your fabric and give them mouldy spots etc ... i have gone back to comic book boards for small 1 metre.. larger fabric 2 metres and over I have gone for cardboard or the fabric bolts from fabric shops or ebay
@Stitch53
@Stitch53 3 года назад
Personally, I would cut the 6” strips in half then just fold the yardage in half before wrapping. I use comic book boards for this. Slightly more expensive overall (1.50-1.69 per 10 boards) but I don’t have to cut them and they are not as bulky. This would be good if your shelves are less than 11” high.
@thelucybirdconnection

I take the sub cut board and divide into 4 pieces and wrap my fat quarters around the smaller cut pieces. Also I have had my fabric stored like this for at least 7 years- I used priority mail boxes size large which are free at the post office, scored for folding- used a ruler and utility knife to cut. Get 12 boards fold fabric in half no need to make that extra fold. They are now the perfect height and width to store on my painted file cabinets.

This is expensive and time consuming to do. Comic book boards online come in 100/pack for about $36. That's 36 cents a piece. Plus the comic book boards are archival, which protects the fabric.
