It turned out just fine, Gretchen, for all the stress and trouble….definitely a happy ending. In full size, the job of the magicians we call upholsterers is simply to hide the edges. Under the trim, under the fringe, under the cording, it can be as ugly as sin (that’s pretty ugly!), but with the staples and fraying, and uneven cuts covered up, it looks like somebody’s Fairy Godmother waved her wand. Just keep that wand of yours polished up and your success rate will remain 100%! As ever, I love it!

It’s a joy to watch you crafting and to know that we all have these days when we just won’t let go or give in. We sometimes need these processes to learn new skills and things about ourselves as you say. I’ve tried a few upholster chairs after watching many videos and still found it really tricky but so rewarding. A friend of mine uses an expression ‘stay in your lane’ and I know what she means but what I love about miniatures is that you can come out of your lane and try new crafts and skills and if it fails there’s not much to lose in time or money. Keep on crafting and please keep sharing it all! ❤

I love how you always manage to turn things around, while explaining why you went wrong (which is super helpful for us lesser mortals who may be not quite as courageous as you!) Lol I had to laugh at myself today, I thought I would start making a dollhouse (for my granddaughter) from a kit. I took all the pieces out of the box and then decided maybe not, and as I tried to put the pieces back into the box I couldn't, it wouldn't fit! Long story short, I truly felt like I could relate to your frustration today. Sometimes we have to press on. Which you do, I'm learning to lol.

But after watching the video, I see what you mean. 😄 I made some of the same mistakes when I started making my chairs from the Bentley House templates earlier this year. (I really ought to finish those as soon as I can make some room on my craft table.) But you recovered, and the end result looks great. 😊 Thank you for sharing the goofs as well as when everything runs smoothly. Trust me when I say I can relate! 😉

Committed to the chaos with a whole lotta camouflage going on, love it! I think the chair looks great, that material is perfect for it. I'm holding my phone watching you and my other hand petting my cat. Then liking comments with my nose as I ran out of hands! Cat likes attention. Now she's almost sitting on my head and hitting my face with her tail. Wants more attention. Any pets in the dollhouse or a caged bird 🐦? That chair made you work hard. The guys ought to be doing mini upholstery work and not only building to help you.

Omgosh Gretchen..this is so classic! A true experience we all have as miniaturist's. I remember making my first sofa, the one in the Josephine House, yea that's the second, the first one is a lot bigger, but trying to upholster that😬😂 The two wing back chairs I made came from Bentley House Minis. Ara has a free pattern and a great tutorial. They were the first pieces of furniture I ever made for the house and even though not as professional as hers are, the template and tutorial were lifesavers. Probably saving every family member of my household😂🤣 Love this and can totally relate!❤

Ya! I know what you mean about a total shiP wreck 😂😂! I think real life upholstering looks very similar to what you did. When I began knitting again after my childhood days, I read that there was just a certain amount of rubbish that one had to knit before transforming into an expert. Many many many years later I know how true it is. I think the same can be said for minis. Fortunately for you, you are beyond the making rubbish stage. Look at that beautiful chair! And ottoman! 🥰✨

I do make a few items and yes, every emotion from despair to elation often arise quickly. Luckily, I'm not yet like King Lear, who died 'twist sorrow and joy' from those roller-coaster feelings. That also happens to me when I order furniture or accessories on-line: joy when the package arrives, despair when I open it and realize that yet again, the scale is either way too small or ludicrously large.
