Fellow dolmar aficionado who is also a fellow Hoosier here. Glad to have stumbled onto this vidja! Got a 7900 myself and I can’t say enough good about it! For my money, it’s the best on the planet! I’ve ran everything from a ms200 up to an 090 and everything else thats orange and loud, and I’ll still pick my 79 any day of the year!
Only thing that you need to worry about on 6400’s are the coils. When(not if) you start having issues where the saw dies after it warm, coil is starting to fail. Other than that I love that platform of saw
Great saw. I know what you mean about the compression these have. I rebuilt one of these a year ago and didn’t use a base gasket. It’s got monster compression. You can’t even just pull it, you gotta get the piston just past TDC and then pull hard. Wish they had a decomp lol.
Just a wonderfully well designed make of chainsaws. easy to work on and run. Amazing power to weight ratio. Well balanced with appropriate hardware. Theyre definitely built to use and repair, in the bush. I cannot speak for anything under 50cc, but who needs a pro saw that small anyway? Keep your eyes open for a 166. All i needed to forget about (mostly) was a dozerdan worked 6401 20 yrs ago and was hooked on these saws... still waiting for a 166 to fall into my hands for milling.
