0:37 "I don't think that is a question any gentleman would answer, especially not on television." 0:49 "I was studying chemical engineering in Australia." Dolph is a gentleman, Renaissance man, athlete, and a loving husband and father. If more boys emulated him (instead of the many unaccomplished dopes that get all the media hype), then we would have more good men in the world.
He never says that he forgot his Swedish, it's just that when Joan Rivers asks him to say "stay tuned for this commercial" he doesn't know how to translate that sentence. Sweden didn't have any private TV Networks back then and thus no TV-commercials. It simply didn't exist any expressions or "lingo" for commercial breaks like it did in the US. It would take another couple of years until there existed similar expressions in the Swedish vocabulary to be used on TV.
Dolph's awesome but Rivers was so friggin annoying. I kept hoping out of nowhere Dolph would just all of a sudden "I must break you" and then punch her out....
Funny ending! Back then many people here in Sweden was very frustrated, about him 'forgetting' Swedish. To the extend that he was 'forgotten' by Swedish press/media. Nowadays it all hunky dory, after all, he's our only action hero.
DieHard Rocky fan here and just ran by this video. Joan Rivers is an embarrassment to herself here with how annoying she was. Basically calling him out on steroid use. That's none of her business. Speak in Swedish, how tall are you? You were a runt? etc.... How about Dolph responds, "how many people a day tell you you're ugly?"
As far forgetting you're native language, it's possible, at least temporarily. Happened to my dad. Happened to me. You don't forget the language, you forget you know it. Takes a second.
Yes. My name here comes from the great Swedish singer of yesteryear Zarah Leander. I think Dolph is a doll here! But I found it strange he could not speak Swedish when Joan asked him to. Maybe he was just nervous on TV, I don't know.
Dolph has told people in numerous interviews later that the stunt of "forgetting" his swedish was something his agent told him to say and he regrets it which is undertsandable since it kinda makes him look like a dork. He speaks swedish perfectly btw and would easily been able to translate the sentence. Nu bryter vi för reklam for example, took me 1 sec tops to figure out :P
What a bad interview... I see Dolph got very uncomfortable with that lady's questions. I thought she was going to ask him more about his career, his conditioning for Rocky 4... not just his relationship status -__- You can easily see that Dolph took the invitation to the show seriously, but all he got was a stupid interviewer, what a shame.
I myself have done the same thing after speaking English exclusively for extended periods of time. I'm assuming Mr. Lundgren experienced the same thing.
What? No way, Stallone is about the best action star as far as acting goes. It fact it makes me mad when he gets put into categories with other ones. I like Dolph, but acting ability, Stallone is my fave. Rocky, Rambo, Copland....but I must admit I'm a huge Stallone fan. I'm sure I'm the only woman who dragged her husband to see the last Rambo film.
That's what Canadian language is off it's because you are made to speak Swedish because the people who had you were Swedish you are Canadian speak French Canadian you learn but of course there is no time Time After Time
So much bs when he preted not to speak Swedish anymore. Happens to most swedes that spend a few years in the US. And then 10 years later they speak perfect Swedish again. Its just a big ego boost they are on. All of them exept skarsgards.
Oooh, look at the big spender with his Standard Play..."Oh, look at me, I'm so rich I can afford to record in SP (2 hours per tape) instead of LP (4 hrs) or SLP/EP (6 hrs)." You're probably so rich you have TWO 30" TVs with VCRs for both of them.
Joan Rivers was a outstanding talk show host in interviewing guest. Way better than those fake kiss as* of Fallon, Colbert, Meyers, Kimmel, Corden and others. Joan's quick witted line when Dolph said he was chemical engineer showed her great comedic timing.
Of course, both Dolph and Mr. Dariush are fine looking guys. We can just imagine anyone who puts them down. They probably look like Roger Ebert sitting further down the couch and have no sex appeal to anyone.. One thing I don't understand about this video is that when Joan tries to break for the commercial she asks Dolph to say it in Swedish but he falters. Didn't he grow up in Sweden? He is Swedish no? Why couldn't speak it here? Strange.
