Wasn't sure I was doing it right trying to get the lid off. Turns out I wasn't being rough enough! Thanks for the clear demo! And thanks for the fridge too. Just had the CFX95 delivered with insulated case (to WA) with your free shipping and at the same price as BCF on mates rates without the cover!

How big is the power consumption difference between the dometic cfx 3 75dz and the engel md 60 FC? It says on the paper that the dometic takes 70watt and Engel 52watt, is that a big difference of power consumption by using? How is the difference of the compressors? Have 75ah optima batterie and a 100w solar panel in Europe . All this with a Engel mr040. The batterie doesn't get flat at all. But wanne change to dometic cfx 3 75dz or engel md 60 FC and I'm not sure if the bigger power consumption makes a big difference... Can you help? In Germany nooone has a Engel md 60 FC to ask... Thx

I'm not going to be able to give you a clear answer here sorry, Dan, as there are so many variables at play. Both of these fridges use a different compressor, each with completely different makeup. It's hard to be specific with fridge comparisons, and everyone will have their own opinion. Engel's Sawafuji swing motor in the 75l fridge will draw a variable current of between 0.5 and 4.2 amps, which means if it ran non stop for an hour it would draw 4.2 amps. In cold weather this will be much lower as the compressor will not run as hard or as often. Dometic, however, has tested their fridges to an average over 24 hours, which for the 75l version comes out at a touch over 3 amps per hour. The power draw on these is also variable and they rate the fridge at 9.6A on 12V, which suggests But that the compressor is capable of pulling much more current than the Engel. This doesn't mean it will draw more current as Dometic claim that their compressor cools quicker, so it pulls more current over a shorter period. My thoughts are that either of the above-mentioned fridges will perform similarly, but given you are going for a bigger fridge that your current Engel MR40 which has a variable current draw of 0.5 to 2.75 amps, you will find you will use more power, and you will need to charge your battery more often than you currently do. We have an article here which may help - www.snowys.com.au/blog/solar-formula-for-your-4wd-setup/. Sorry I couldn't be more specific. ~ Ben

Can you do you need to run both compartment? Or can you only run one at a time?
@SnowysOutdoors
@SnowysOutdoors 4 года назад
Hi Peter, the compartments are independently operated, and you can turn either compartment off and just run one if you wish. Fyi, this model has been superseded, the latest version is available here - www.snowys.com.au/cfx3-75dz-dual-zone-fridge-freezer, which has the same independent controls for each compartment. ~ Ben

Hi mate, nice viedeo like always. Thinking about buying this one, because I'm not happy with the engel md 60 FC European model . I have a 75ah optima yellow agm Batterie with 200 Watts permanently solar on it. And a mobile 100 watt solar to put on top by standing. Do you think that is enough power for the domestic cfx 75 for a long weekend ( maybe 4 days)? I mean it needs a lot of power... 🤔 More then the engel I guess

Hey Dan. There's a bit of math behind this along with many variables. These pull about 3 amps per hour average, so with a 75Ah battery you have about 12 hours of runtime assuming you will only deplete it to 50% (recommended). So, if your battery is charged before the sun sets then you'll get through the night, but you'd want to hope the sun is shining first thing to start to recharge your battery. A 200W panel will give out anywhere from about 2A up to about 11A. If we take the middle ground here and assume about 6A, then about 6 hours of sunlight will recharge the battery, but you'll also be consuming power as the fridge runs, so the 200W alone may need upward of 8-10 hours of good sunlight to ensure the battery is charged before sunset. You may want to use your portable 100W mat too, but you'll need to speak to an auto electrician to see how this can be set up i.e. to have both panels individually charging the battery at the same time. There's no simple answer sorry, have a read of this article for more info - www.snowys.com.au/blog/solar-formula-for-your-4wd-setup/. ~ Ben

@@SnowysOutdoors that helps already a lot. By your calculations on the website it is 1,5 ah because it is not running full time an hour. Correct? So the domestic will need 3ah an hour by full running, but needs only 1,5ah because its running only 30min on and 30min off right? So this will be 75ah /2= 37,2 37,2/1,5ah = 25 hours But at night it needs less. And ad the day 2+ solar panels bring power back. Should be fine for 2 days by bad/maybe winter sun? 🤔 Problem is on raini days, but there are two 55ah optima starter batteries to connect by pressing a button(tmaxx system) just in case. So probably good to go for a real time test? What do you think 🤔?

@@SnowysOutdoors hang on or is the dometic cfx 3 75dz really need 3ah an hour always? So nomaly 6ah.That would be heaps. I tested the system with the engel mr040 before and the was heaps of power left every day. Is it possible to use only one side of the dometic cfx 3 75dz in maybe bad condition with less sun for the solar ? Damn maybe I need a second 75ah optima yellow agm? No room for that...

@@danmanlivingthedream7069 you're on the right track, but there is still no simple answer. Just fyi there is a new model called the CFX375, but I'll refer to the older CFX75 here. The power consumption I mention is an average over 24 hours under certain conditions, Dometic state 2.9 Ah/h @12V, 3°C Large Compartment, -15°C Small Compartment, 32°C ambient. Dometic uses a variable speed compressor that can draw up to about 9 Amps when it's running flat out, but this would only be for a short time usually on startup, and consumption would be much less once the fridge has cooled and the compressor is simply maintaining temperature. So, about 3 Amps (or 2.9) is a good average to work with, but this will be less overnight and more in a hot car. It's also dependant on the fridge settings, the freezer will chew through heaps of power, so you'd save yourself by using both compartments as a fridge only... no icecream but at least the beers will be cold. I'd suggest you give it a test in real-time before you go and drop a heap of coin on a new, or extra battery. ~ Ben

I heard Dometic customer service are terrible and barely answer your call. Anyone has their issue with their warranty?
@SnowysOutdoors

I can't speak of how Dometic will handle a consumer warranty, Lucky Pitbull, but what I can say is that if your purchase is through us then we will deal with Dometic for you in the unlikely event that you have a problem. All you need to do is let us know of the issues you are having via our online form (www.snowys.com.au/warranty). ~ Ben

Unfortunately, this has been a really bad fridge for us. In 6 months since purchase from new, it's broken down twice, been at the repairers for a total of a month and a half. Along with that, we've lost hundreds of dollars in food. I wish I could praise it as the features are good, but it's just been a constant pain.

This is disappointing to hear, KayQue69, most feedback we have on these is positive. I assume you have followed this up under warranty, is seems unusual to have had it break down twice. ~ Ben
