Many thanks for this video but want to add a caveat. Our blind, which is the centre front window blind, so quite large, has been broken for some time but as we are planning an extended trip and wanted to be able to move the blind so we could open the window [we kept it pulled down and didn't dare touch it], I asked others if it could be repaired, and being told no, I searched the internet and came across your video. Ours was exactly the same as yours, the spring had come out of its housing. So following your step by step instructions, we fixed it back in place with no difficulty at all and then tried to re-assemble it. That's where it all went wrong. We could not put the second side piece into the slots of the top bar. You said it took a bit of effort to do it and boy were you right. We simply weren't strong enough to pull the two pieces apart to get the side rail to fit the top. That's where the caveat comes in, I would give a warning not to attempt this unless a strong arm chap is stood by. After two days of huffing and puffing, this morning, we girded our loins, ate our spinach and with the help of a broom handle, finally managed to get the two pieces to fit. It's now back in place - thank you. It's certainly a very useful video and no doubt will help others with these blinds. I would add my husband is nearly 80 and I'm in my 70's and no longer possess the strength of Samson. I now need to find out how to adjust the tension of the strings, the top tensioning bar has no impact on them. I suspect we had such a probem getting it back together because the strings need loosening, it is very stiff to move the blind up and down. So the search is on.
@AWasp-o8e glad I could help has I said it’s not easy but with a bit of patience it works out . you can alter the tension at the side of the blind some are at the top some are at the bottom you just screw the slotted screw clockwise or anti clockwise wise depending on if it needs tightening or loosening
Thanks for the comment that’s very much appreciated , hopefully it will help out others that have this very common problem. I couldn’t find anything online when I looked that’s why I did vlog. Mark &Hazel
You just saved a marriage. Pulled onto a site and ping one of the side blinds pinged exactly like in your video. It was a bit more challenging with a 1m wide blind but followed you step by step guide and it was back up and fixed within the hour and no spare bits left afterwards. Thank you so much for a great video.
@stewartrobertson1215 yes your right the narrow blinds are a lot more challenging I did 2 of ours plus the large one in the video during the time we had the caravan . Glad I could of been assistance best wishes Mark & Hazel
Hi Mark, watched your video on blind string failure repair. Today I fixed mine after caravan repairer failed repair. Saved me stress and money, very much appreciated. Thanks.
@paulrobinson6501 glad you got it sorted and the video was a help that’s what it was intended to do help save people lots of money I was told by my local caravan specialist that it couldn’t be repaired how wrong was he 😂👍 Regards Mark & Hazel
@neilmayes1189 Thank you for the comment it can be quite fiddly but take your time and be patient and you should be fine lots of other have successfully repaired there blinds after following the video best of luck Mark & Hazel 👍
Finally got around to it today & had your video in there with me. Had a couple of hiccups my bottom screws were hidden behind covers and it was a big blind so that made it more awkward. That said, it's back together now nicely tensioned & working like a charm. Saved me a packet mate thanks again 😁👍
Last time we had the 'van out I had this issue. Being a typical tight Yorkshireman I went into a cold sweat at the thought of having to pay someone to repair it. Finding your video has been a life saver. I just need to train my wife how to do this so next time I allow her to leave the kitchen she can be kept occupied (I'm so glad she doesn't read comments on youtube).
😂😂😂😂 Thanks for your comment Trevor C Glad to be of service , and hope your training goes well 😬 And agree you may be in trouble if she reads your comment 😂😂 Best of luck Mark & Hazel
Excellent video, many thanks for posting it. Like many others I went into panic mode when the blind on the kitchen window in my Lunar Clubman failed. I could see the pound signs racking up fast, but with the help of your video I fixed it myself in about half an hour.
Thanks for this video Mark, our blind has done exactly the same thing but on the left side instead. I'll have a go at fixing it now I've seen how to do it right. Keep these maintenance videos coming, excellent content. Chris.
Thanks for the comment Chris . Glad to be able to help can be a bit fiddly but just take your time in doing it . got a few maintenance video in the pipe line plus a few modification videos in the sorting out stages at present
Thanks for your comment glad to be of help if you want to future proof it so it don’t happen again when you’ve put sting back in and put the triangle retainer back in just pop a few blobs of superglue where the plastic tabs are best wishes Mark & Hazel
You Sir have saved me a heap of cash by this instructional video. The tension came off due to that flimsy little side plate coming off. It was the front centre blind on my Lunar Clubman. A pig to put back. Went through centre window from the outside with the repaired frame. New dometic blind approx £180. Thank you.
Thanks for your comment yeah have to agree the side plate that holds everything together is very flimsy but glad to be of service. Best wishes Mark & Hazel
Thanks for the comment Alan . Glad to hear that your sorted you blind 👍. That’s why I did this video as I couldn’t find any info anywhere . And knew it would be a help. . Best wishes Mark & Hazel
Much appreciated as mine as just gone while on holiday but will have to get a set of torx keys, got a bit set to fit on a screwdriver, but don't think they will be long enough. A big thank you Mark.
Thankyou for subscribing. Sorting the blind can be a bit fiddly so just take your time and make sure the tabs on the roller retainer are ok. Another subscriber said one of is had broken off but used a little bit of super glue to hold it in place all the best. Mark & Hazel
Handy video...I had the exact same problem on my front middle window....if there was a 100 ways in doing wrong I think I did 99 of them😂. The problem I had was that spring cover had a lug broken off...so it wouldn't hold and kept popping off...i had to glue it in place....thanks for the video.
Thanks for the reminder. I've just spent 2 hours fixing the second one of these blinds to have broken in exactly the same way. I also loosened the strings at the bottom on both sides and it goes up and down a lot easier. I think they are too tight.
Thanks for the comment Yeah to be honest the strings are very tight . I will have to have a look at doing the same thing when/ if a blind does the same
Thanks for your video. Shame I didn't find it before I took it into the dealership for repair. Repair cost £40 but at least next time I'll be able to fix it myself. Just need to buy a torch key.
Thanks for your comment Steve , It can be very fiddly but just take your time when you do it and all will be ok 👍 if it happens again . best wishes Mark & Hazel
Thanks for your comment Ivan. it can be a bit tricky putting the spring back in but just take your time and you should be fine all the best Mark & Hazel
Thanks. Really good explanation. It's definitely a poor design. Put mine back together lasted 5 or 6 goes then fell apart. Got serious with it (glue gun) and it's all good.
Thanks for your comment. yeah it can be very Fiddly and frustrating to be honest think I did mine 4 or 5 times with the same ending has yours . In the end superglue to the rescue . Best wishes Mark & Hazel .
Really helpful... but u would say for future reference condescending the video... down... watching someone unscrew 8 screws isn't needed... the length of this vid is totally off putting which is a shame...
I didnt have the strings out of the blind . But it should all be straight forward to do as long as you can get similar string. We sold the caravan in September 2022 and we had 3 window blinds and door blind where the string was fraid
Thanks for the comment . Yeah I’ve already had someone else say that they super glue the spring retainer in place . may be a good idea to stop it repeating in the future. Best wishes Mark & Hazel
Thanks for the comment Dave if you mean the top panoramic roof blind I haven’t had to tackle that one yet. I had mine replaced under warranty so I didn’t do it . But if anything happens I will be doing a vlog . All the best Mark & Hazel
Yeah on the top right hand side there is a plastic bung prise out then insert a flat blade screw driver push in and then turn very slightly do not take screwdriver out of slot as that’s the spring tensioner let spring tensioner pop out slightly then turn 1/4 of a turn then just push in and turn clockwise so tensioner grips back into blind retainer just keep doing that till blind is not so tight .
Great video Mark, much appreciated. Easy to follow instructions doing a very fiddly job whilst holding a camera 👍 Thank you for sharing Pal, this was priceless… You have a new subscriber. Cheers Colin
