I've always been so captivated listening to Dominick...it's as if he's describing a video these memories are so burned into his mind..from childhood on.
I'd have to agree. I actually drove past Roy DeMeo's old house in Massapequa, NY, earlier today. I was quite spooked as I passed by. He simply lived there. As far as I know, none of the heinous acts took place in the house. That never happened before, and I live in an area where a lot of prominent, infamous gangsters lived and hung out in. In fact, I renovated the former home of Pete Castellano (Paul's son). It felt a little strange because of the notorious association, but I didn't sense any evil. There's just something different about a man who used to apparently enjoy dismembering fellow human beings. To walk into the apartment behind Gemini Lounge, though, YIKES!!!
Ive seen countless mafia interviews decades of non stop film...Dominick is extremely interesting...A imo completely genuine important account of mafia history. The way he presents himself in a non boastful manner.... is refreshing... A real treat to hear from someone who has born into the family who doesn't take themselves too seriously...RIP
@@ryanj6862 it is, and I know that sounds sick, but Mr. Montiglio was in vietnam and was also Nino's nephew!! He had been around Horrible violence courtesy of His 2 uncles [ Uncle Sam in Vietnam & His uncle Nino Gaggi in Brooklyn. The poor Chap was Doomed to a life of insanity.
When I was a kid my stepdad was a firefighter grew up with Roy him and my mom use to go to Gemini all the Time. I’ve met Roy numerous times when I’d stop by.
This, along with the books about Tommy Pitera and Richard Kuklinski were also page turners. Even if “The Iceman” may be largely fiction, it’s still a pretty interesting read.
@@joeruiz4010 yes as a little boy I’d go in there talk to my mom and Stepdad see Roy in there and some of the crew. But as adult played Darts in there this was After Roy was killed
This series is great. My Dad was from Ave I and Albany Ave then they moved to Ave M and Flatbush like 2 or 3 blocks from the Gemini in the 70s. Hearing Dominick really brings me back, I grew up hearing all the stories about that bar.
I was in the Gemini a few times. Never saw them there. Just a quiet bar to get a few beers after going home from cityscene , bay club or fantasy island.
I remember reading about this and thinking, “Going to the Gemini? Act like you know. If you have the slightest doubt, don’t do it or say it. And whatever you do? DO NOT GO UPSTAIRS FOR ANY REASON! You ain’t coming back…”
What Im eluding to is, no fights or arguments in the Gemini. Bring no attention to yourself. The other bars were all open game for that stuff. Not in DeMeo's joint.
@@suptrto I understand. Intellectually, but only to a point, because I’m not Italian and have never lived in NYC, let alone Canarsie like you have. Based on what I read, it just seemed like a really good idea to mind the Ps and Qs in that place especially if someone was aware that they were in a spot owned by a mob guy, or a spot where they hung out. Reckless with the wrong guy (or girl) brings consequences…seen it happen in other places, with other groups. IJS
Gemini was a very popular and always crowded bar and grill catering to the blue collar construction, delivery, and warehouse crowd. It was a place where we guys went to get away from womens' nagging and to talk about cars, hunting, fishing, knives, and other guy stuff. If you are a regular patron, you are respectful and not a belligerent drunk, and you paid no attention to the mob life, you were in no danger at the Gemini.
@@suptrtoThere were NO fights or even arguments in the Gemini. It was a very classy and stately place, for a very specific reason. I grew up in Brooklyn. I trust and feel far safer around Demeo's crew than the police. You can leave your wallet at the Gemini counter and nobody would be taking it.
Long story short; Dom has the view and tone of a guy who went along with the party, but just participated in the basics. He knows he has insight into a world that not even most Mafia families have seen. You can look at him and tell right off the bat that this guy isn't looking for fame, just wants to get the story out there. It's one of a kind.
But how would he know. According to Sammy the Bull, this bloke would be paranoid af to go down to the Gemini lounge to pick up $$ for Nino. And avoided the place at all costs, getting in and out as quickly as possible, thinking they were going to kill him. Plus he disappeared to Cali for years, when they were at their peak. So realistically, how would he know. It also makes sense for Sammy to contract someone outside the mob as the hit he refers to, was on a cop.
@@spe3173 the iceman was a proven liar. Plus he said he was getting paid 10s of thousands for a hit, the mob didn’t have to pay for hits they had guys to do it for nothing
Sammy is a pathological liar. How would text book psychopath lying Sammy know what Dominick went through at the Gemini Lounge? I'd be paranoid AF too going there from 76-83. Only an idiot would be feel comfortable.
Montiglio's Vietnam experience saved his life. The Gemini Lounce crew had huge respect for his courage to go his own way against his Uncle Gaggi's will who was in fact their Boss under Castellano. Paul Castellano wanted Dominick to be be his driver and Gaggi couldn't stand that so he kept Dominick down.
I’m going by the Murder Machine book, and I don’t think the Gemini Lounge crew respected Dominic to the extent you think! In fact, Roy would joke about Dom’s Vietnam experience. He did get respect for an attempted hit when he used a grenade to boobie trap a car door
@@ROBERTMORAN-mv7eq i never said educational… wat r u talkin bout? I come back and watch it cuz it’s interesting brutal story that really happened. It’s entertaining…. Duhhhh. Ur not bright are you
Even tho I never met or know Dom I love his humour his life was huge Vietnam vet. Artist,Gangster and musician sad to find out he passed what great guy .
Dominick Montiglio is by far the best story teller that I have ever heard. No one is even close. Sammy the Bull would probably be second. This man was the real deal. I can tell that this really bothered him and that he was actually a pretty good person. I can tell that he is telling the truth too. People closest to this thing say that The DeMeo Crew were responsible to 250 to 1000 very unfortunate people. They decided to stop counting after 250 because this situation was so insane. They made every other crew in the history of the life look like choir boys. Can not even imagine his life. No one can. His memories must have been torture. Rest in peace Dominick.
I met this guy in a bar on long island years ago when I was really young. I had no clue who he was or what hes done, and when I was told I couldn't believe it because he was such a nice guy.
The way he laughs and has such glee in his eye when describing it shows he's a pretty fucked up person himself.. Green beret in Vietnam right? Were actually lucky to have this guy's stories
What’s scary, is it’s not like these guys sat up in a scorching hot attic every night wearing pink bunny suits, singing sesame Street songs in reverse, while using scissors to cut off the legs of flying red frogs that weren’t really there. These guys actually functioned, took care of themselves, went home to fairly well adjusted families, (Roy DeMeo was the perfect example of a family man) and maintained that kind of life, based on some kind of moral compass. Scary indeed!
Notice the fact that he is laughing while he is describing another human being's head was flattened by a compactor. Makes one wonder how much he really did change.
Well he alsowas in special forces in nam so im absolutely positive rhat he saw death o. A regular basis so talkinv about something he saw in pictures and real life from like 40 years ago isnt that big a deal anymore
I heard that he was looking for content on his podcast . Maybe you could reach out and see if he’s interested in talking to me about this footage and our film the lynchpin of Bensonhurst which is on tubi
He's laughing like he still enjoys remembering it. No remorse whatsoever. These guys were truly demons of the lowest kind. And this guy's demeanor and diabolic smile says it all. Sad that the Manson girls had to spend so long in prison even after being reformed, while guys like this are freely roaming among us laughing gleefully during interviews when they reminisce about these horrible crimes.
@@andreasoares9402 come on if you watched the video you clearly heard him say “they went against all the rules”, they killed witnesses, anybody who was with the person they went to kill
It is fascinating how Dom does his morality dance between the voice of reason and the second-coming of Roy. This video in tandem with his complaints about not being made are very interesting. (IMO) Dom seemed to be driven to madness over his jealousy of Roy and Nino's support of him.
Roy wasn't so bad. His method of killing was not sadistic. The victims never even knew that they were dead nine times out of ten. Also, from what I've read, he had a genuinely kind side to him and was very loyal. Montiglio would never have dared call him Rooster without being Nino's nephew.
And even more amazing that the big guys at the top let Roy & Co. run wild like that for as long as they did. Being a BIG earner definitely gave Ol’ Roy a lot of “leeway”. Never enough body count for Roy. Crazy fucker half the time murdered just for shits and gigs.
If you noticed most of all serial killers were roaming around in the 60’s 70’s and 80’s all before technology and street cameras… that could never happen these days
Back in the day... In the mid to late 1970s, I was advised, by ex-cons who were ex-car thieves then going straight, to avoid going into The Gemini Lounge, at all costs. These were people who did their time, started raising families, and changed their lives for the better, they were at that time working at a Key Food Warehouse in the Canarsie Terminal Market. I guess the word among these ex-car thieves... were they knew something really BAD...and they would not get involved with any more talk about the Gemini. Just to avoid the place...
If they die and come back as ghosts they still owe time. Lmao hearing these stories from Dominic himself (R.I.P) it’s so freaking nuts those Geneni crew especially the twins were as evil as can be and let’s not leave out the Vampire himself Roy’s uncle 😦
You can literally leave your front door unlocked in that neighborhood during the Gambino family's control, and nobody will steal anything from you. The mob guys were the ones who virtually eliminated street crime in their districts, not the police or the DAs. Street hooligans laugh at NYC's prosecutors and DAs. They will not even dare to utter a mouse sqeak when they are talking to a couple of Italian guys wearing suits though.
To be honest I could listen to this guy for hours on end because of his unique insights into this life and these people. I have a fascination with these crazy guys like in the maffia or just individual serial killers that have no boundaries or qualms when killing people. The moral relativism, the lack of empathy, the paranoia towards each other when it’s a crew like this etc. all really interesting dynamics that are going on with these guys. Just the fact that you know that these things are happening somewhere in the world and then considering everything that goes along with it. It’s just very interesting on a psychological level how these things develop.
Bill Cutolo Jr told a story recently that he went into the Gemini as a young teen for a glass of water during a hot afternoon and Roy I told him that he knows his father and to tell him Roy says hello. When his father found out he told him never to go in there again and something like "you wouldn't believe how many coats of paint is on those walls"
I think the laughing masks a whole lot of horror and PTSD and sleepless nights for Dominic, yes he was a killer and involved upto his neck in the DeMeo/Gemini Lounge Crew killings but I think he was also one very relieved man when the Feds offered him a way out because he was in imminent danger of getting whacked just like Roy got whacked because Dom was using drugs and selling them also and Big Paul would have had him taken out I think.
Based on what he said about his time in Vietnam, for Dominic Montiglio to meet anybody capable of freaking him out with their capacity for violence says a ton about just how scary the DeMeo crew was. He described have seen and done some “action movie” stuff over there…
OH MY GOD THIS GUY IS BIGGER THAN LIFE FINALLY HE HAS SURFACED UNBELIEVABLE STORIES ABOUT HIS UNCLE NINO AND ABOUT HIS LIFE ON THE RUN IN CALIFORNIA I'M SO GLAD YOU'VE SURFACED 💜

He took up painting and was really good at it. He would get $1500.00 for his work. sometimes more because they custom ordered. Dominic was a very talented man. It's too bad he was kept from seeing his dad? that had to have some affect on him? I watched a video on reelz. It was a very good interview. Unfortunately he died soon after. RIP Dominic ❤️🙏🎖️🪖
A lot of people laugh when they talk about shit that's "abnormal" to others. He probably has PTSD and is probably coping the best he can . Give this man something to get his mind right..
Also, Mr.Montiglio... Thank you for your service to our country and I noticed that you paint, any chance of purchasing something that you've done? Thank you, Jeff.
Dominick passed away about a year ago . We will be selling prints of his works shortly on our website . Dominick Montiglio .org . I also have original drawings and paintings but they are very expensive as there are so few . You can reach out to me at rossbrodar@hotmail. Com for more info on original art work.
Wrong. Organized crime kept street crime WAY down. No average hooligan dared to creep on women, snatch purses, or break into a car in a neighborhood that one of the Five Families controlled. No one dared to. If you got caught spray painting a building, a wiseguy would give you one warning, and that was the last warning you will ever get.
Look at what the Outfit did particularly to Action Jackson because they suspected he was an informant. All pales into insignificance when compared to the Cartels though
@@dirkbogarde44 When you are groomed since a child to accept, participate and commit crimes it becomes all you know until and unless one makes a conscious change in behavior, activity and associations.
He came home from school one day and told Nino that his new job at school was write down the names of the kids that were bad. Nino told him to tell the teacher he was not to do that any more and explained that no one in this family is a rat.
@@daniel213141 has to go from a childhood like that to the jungles of Vietnam as a LRRP/RANGER where you're trained to kill the enemy without mercy... in the combat zone...he definitely did not have it easy
Damn… The way he laughed about the Katz murder just goes to show no matter how taboo an act, if you are around it enough, it becomes normal. Murder was like a Sunday walk in the park or probably more like doing drugs. They definitely got off on it. I heard the young guys in that crew idolized Roy, I’m sure they wanted to impress him
