@@miniwargaming - Brent is always working hard, grinding away and keeping tabs on the competition... I'm mean the community. This is a joke. We all know that most of our various hobby/gaming creators watch, interact and collaborate with each other for the benefit of themselves, an more importantly the community and the hobby/games we love.
Haven't even had time to play an AoS 2nd edition game yet. Or 9th edition 40k. By the time you collect and paint an army and learn the rules, a three year rotation is a "blink of an eye."
I have core rules and battletomes for AoS 2nd and have never played either. I got maybe 20 games of 40k in total before the pandemic and the edition change. As a result, I’m done buying books from GW unless I have an army ready to play said game, and the time to dedicate to it. The edition churn is too much to keep up with.
You're not wrong. Fortunately books don't go out of date and can still be played 20 years from now. Which is about the same time it takes me to finish an army lol 🤷🏼♂️ Always good to see rules improving tho.
9th and 3rd edition need to last longer than 3 years....its just too often at this point, especially when these new generations are so similar to last gen
I'm so tired of constantly changing books and manuals that in 40k we went back to the excellent 3rd edition with friends and in fantasy we play Warmaster Revolution (printed models are beautiful) and 6th edition WFB. No FAQ, no worrying about how long the book will last or how useless the models from the collection will become.
@@AirsoftAddicted I would be all for that, but everyone around here is addicted to having the "new shiny". They are clever enough to include enough enticing new models for every faction go get people to go along with their ratrace.
The frustrating thing is that, as soon as everyone gets a codex/battletome for the current edition, they release a big new edition and the churn starts all over again.
They would look good as LOTR orcs but seem to miss the satire on British football hooligans and their culture. Its their personality and humour is what makes orks fun to play.
The WHC site seems to be suggesting that Dominion is similar to Indomitus - the "expensive fancy" box that's limited run. Later on, the S/M/L starter boxes will be released and be the more readily available sets at your FLGS.
I've recently discovered your channel and just wanted to say thanks for all of the detailed insight into everything 40k, Sigmar, and more. As a single dad with two kids I never thought I could financially ever get into this hobby but thanks to your videos on cheap / easy Kill Team and Warcry builds I realized that I can set enough aside to finally join in! =]
@@PheonixKnght My 9 year old is so excited. My 3 year old is gonna have a field day so I'll have to get some extra figures that she can just go to town on.
Thank you Uncle Atom, always honest, transparent and to the point, I appreciate the time you took to get this video out, it looks like it is going to be an awesome box set!
I hope to Gork and Mork Greenskins don't lose their humor. That's why they're so awesome. They're just loving the hell out of their violent lives. But I'm fine with more true to scale look as long as my goblin/Gretchen/grots are still mischievous and joyously murderous and/or suicidal.
They won’t. The old orks are representations of mork while the kruleboiz are the first orks to represent gork which is the reason for the different look
I am officially excited for this box. I wasn't sold on the new Orks, but they have definitely grown on me. At least certain ones have. The new Stormcast I think are phenomenal. MUCH better proportions.
Regarding the new ork look, I remember seeing an interview with a GW employee way back when they first started making LOTR minis. He mentioned that LOTR had made them better at designing minis in general, because suddenly they had to learn make a tiny Aragorn that needed to look like a real person, and be recognizable as Viggo Mortinsen's character. This gave them a challenge that Warhammer had not up to that time, and taught them techniques about realism. They continue to refine their art all the time. I actually like the new look.
I really love that the big book is full of story, art and background. After seeing GW start hawking the box, I was expecting it, but it's still nice to see. I'm also glad that it sorta seems like they're going heavy on campaigns as well. Crusade is an awesome way to play 40k and if they're now treating Path to Glory as more than an afterthought, I'm all for it.
I like the new Orks they are from a swampy area so should look a little different and it's nice to have the variety, I just see them as a return of the Hobgoblins from earlier Warhammer editions.
I just got my print copy of rain and hell and I have to say it very nice book, I've already been going over the rules and it will be fun when me and my friends get are demons done
Sorry I'm an Ironjawz player all the way. I love the goofy look to them and it matched the aesthetic that they started with. This new direction is leaning towards old Fantasy and that isn't AOS.
The bold text and laidout are propably taken from various OSR RPG books. They popularised that style in recent years and some are a pure pleasure to read.
I also hope they keep the cartoony ironjawz and orruk warclans. Cause i believe those guys are the brutal but cunning orks of Morka and this new orks are the cunning but brutal orks of Gorka. Just my opinion. Actual orks player will have more right of comment than i do
I agree that the old models should not be scrapped as I prefer their look VASTLY over these ratfink not-orks. They look like they belong in the Lord of the rings game
A month later and I just picked one up for almost half price at my local game store. There is a whole pile of them in the discount bin. It's a shame really, they over ordered to a crazy degree
Just picked up this box for $120 sealed. Couldnt find it on the GW website, but still some for sale on amazon. I still haven't finished my dang blood angel army but couldnt pass up the price for so much plastic. After hearing how next month most prices are going up and how annoyed I am with GW prices to begin with I figured I mine as well take a good deal while I could find one.
Yeah this box went down to 99 euro at a local webshop here in The Netherlands. Im really tempted because it just seems an outragous deal for 60 models and a 360 page hardcover book. Its just that I really dont have any connection with the Age of Sigmar stuff. I mean, I actually really thinking if I would bother to assemble and paint these, even if I got them for free. I just dont feel that itch to get into AoS for some reason. The orks look kinda cool, but these Stormcast guys seem terribly generic. All the lore seems so forced, artificial and convoluted. Just way too far from the all the "High Fantasy" principles to a point its just all a bit meaningless. I just wish we had old Warhammer Fantasy back I know and love from my youth, and these were just regular orcs and empire armies or something, with updated visuals and rules, then I would have bought it in a heartbeat.
@@ageoflove1980 I'm not into AOS either but figured at least I'd have 2 basic armys to toy around with playing. Dont plan to expand the collection. I managed to get them all assembled and ready for primer, but put my main focus on my BA army which has tripled in size since I made this post. I have over 7,500 points of BA to still finish painting before I even care to finish this box.
I really like those new orks I find them scarier and creepier than the OG orks which is a plus to me. The more "goofy" OG orks are still great in their own way but I quite like the less (?) cartoony / LotR feel of these new ones. I never really wanted to start an ork army outside of wanting to make a wacky army when I'd get tired of my 1k Sons but now I might be tempted to start AoS with these orks as an army now.
Just got mine yesterday for an unbelievable price on ebay. I want to get it all built and painted before Christmas so if my nephew or niece wants to try it out then maybe we can do a simplified version
Looking to dip my toes into AOS, I wanted to check out the spearhead box for the Stormcast Eternals at my local game store. The owner told me about this box, highly recommended it, and said he'd sell it for $100. Coming from 40k, I was pretty shocked at the amount of plastic I had gotten in this box, and with this box being $40 less and having pretty close to quadruple the minis, I'm pretty happy with it.
The newer models are so spindly. I got the Hive War boxed set, and parts would break before coming off the sprue, no matter how carefully I tried to snip them off.
I feel short and stocky designs was honestly a hangover from working in lead. The newer moulding tech and CAD modelling allows for more creative freedom. The new Vexillor with a banner is just outstanding.
They mentioned during the announcement live stream that this box was designed to be a splash release, followed closely by regular releases of all the models in the box.
Regarding the skinny, more realistic, more scary looking Kruleboyz: my sneaky suspicion is that GW is jump aboard the D&D train. After all, if you need minis for your D&D campaign you can use AoS freeguild, skeletons, ogres, trolls, etc, etc - but the GW orcs aren't much like their D&D counterparts. These ones look a lot closer in size, build and appearance.
I don't think so. They make their new stuff at 32mm bases which is near unusable on a 25mm grid (doesn't seem right on large creatures, doesn't fit a 25mm square). They also don't want an influx of other vendors, and usually sculpt their stuff to not match that. They do fit the aesthetics of the mid to late '80's orcs very well though.
Hey there! Im currently nearing the end of the video and you were mentioning about the stock. GW said that they're pre-making TONS of boxsets for dominion and said there are 'hopefully enough'... here's hoping ill be able to grab a box...
Thanks for the look inside this box set. I really like what they are going for with this. It's just a shame it will be another limited box set. I personally won't be picking this one up due to the boxset just dropping at the wrong time for me. I'll definitely wait till the actual starter sets drop later on and get one of those at somepoint.
Nice overview. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get a copy for myself (hopefully they made more of them than for Hexed Hamlet). I'll need to watch other creators diving deeper into the rules, but always awesome to hear your thoughts! R.I.P. Blue Background Light
Get some feathered wings in the right size for the Stormcasts, and do an angelic "cabal" for RiH? The Stormcast models come with a solid variety of visually distinct troops that could stand in for Minions - and you have some choice for Leaders too. I consider the hero lady the perfect "Devout" for such a project. Do eet!
Hob grots and Not Quite Orcs? could they be prepping to bring Chaos Dwarfs back? I mean hobgrots are literally Hob Goblins right? hence why they look more scrawny and slightly more like elf Orc hybrids? like?
Some lore snippet I read talked about the hobgrot mysterious masters or something..... there was a Chaos dwarf in warcry.... I definitely hope for chaos dwarves in the near future.
@@mycatistypingthis5450 yeah that is my point, I am aware of the Lore, used to collect old hammer as a kid. I also have the war cry set with the Chaos dwarf in, but he is not at all in the traditional style, like the Orc Boss in this is,
I just want the individual minis from this box. The annihilators are very interesting to me. Not really a fan of hte heads having clothing attached but, a little clipping and putting a different head on there shouldn't be too hard.
Tolkien just called, he wants to have his share for the LOTR Orcs in this box. but tbh, I don't like them at all. I think that the ironjawz were perfect and I would have preferred a whole new line in their style.
I kinda get the vibe too, this looks like it would have been more at home in their LoTR game...I'm not sure I want a less cartoony (aka more 'serious' looking) fantasy war game.
I like the new orc's. They look more "realistic" as much as orcs can look realistic. The new sigmarines look "better" but I'm just not a fan of the ascetic- I prefer them to look more medieval, or chivalric
About the new design style of spindly, skinny, fragile miniatures it is the way to combat piracy, because plastic has incredible properties that can't be replicated by pitare resin miniatures (or the result is so fragile that is not practical). Now modern resin 3d printing does not has those constraints...
I stopped by my local store last week, "If I say I want a box now, do I need to say it again when the pre-orders open up?" "Nope" "Great, thanks!" So far he has never let me down, he just messaged me the price, looking forward to painting this up.
Everyone knows this will sell out to bots within 5 minutes. I highly doubt they will do a made-to-order like they did with Indomitus. I preordered Cursed City and GW canceled the store's allocation, so that is not a guarantee either. If you REALLY want this set then be prepared to pay at least double from scalpers. Thanks GW!
Just wait for the individual minis I guess, I refuse to buy from scalpers. If everyone else did the same, they'd drop the prices to MSRP super fuckin fast as they start losing money and keep buying all this expensive stuff that isn't moving... So they'd decide in a couple weeks to just recoop the costs. It's simple. People only scalp because people buy from scalpers
Tell ya a secret, indominus never sold out. GW paid a magazine to say it might have, then laughed at the FOMO buying. Every local game store in my area (8 within 45 minutes) had it in stock when everyone was waiting for the "special order"
A guy purchased all 15 copies of indomitus that my lgs ordered, 15! His credit card got declined on the day I got my friends to try warhammer and the owner let us have one of them.
My family, while on vacation, stumbled into a Games Workshop store a couple of years ago, by total mistake. We got interested in the whole concept and bought the Soul Wars box that day. We found the rules books so frustrating that we actually put it up for a couple of years. Eventually, watching way too many RU-vid videos we figured it out (I think) and have been playing and painting a bit. We really enjoy the models and painting, but I don't think I will ever again buy a GW rules book. If we ever decide to get into a different game, it will be from some other company.
I'm not sure what they could do to the story of AOS to make it hold a candlelight to Fantasy for me. But the box set looks cool, thanks for the review!
The new Kruleboyz orruks kinda remind me of the Lord of the rings orcs. I like the new sculpts, i wonder if we will see the 40 orkz get this new style.
I'm not sure if it's just me, but the Dominion set's SCE models seems to have better physical proportion compared to some of the current existing models. I personally find them much better in the eyes. Same goes for the new Orcs give a bit of LotR vibe. Different style, but also very nice.
I already put my order in at my LGS, and they had enough preordered to offer me two boxes. So yeah, it looks like LGSs have the option to buy a good number of these. MSRP is $200, so same as Indomitus. Looking forward to getting these in my hands.
@@MrSJPowell - Indomitus Box.... many companies had orders that were very large and then GW told them that they were only going to be getting 'X' amount regardless of how large their order was. (I believe that the amount was 40 or 45 units) So if it was a chain of stores all bought by a single company wide buyer, they only got 'X' to be divided by all of their stores. Many independent stores in major cities/areas did not have enough supply to fill all of their pre orders, at least in North America.
