'Deadpool 2 (2018)' Domino - All Scenes Powers & Abilities Domino (born Neena Thurman) is a mutant mercenary with the ability to control probability in her favor. Portrayed by: Zazie Beetz
I love how they did her in this film. I was skeptical at first about how you would 'show' luck powers in a movie, but they chose an aboslutely genius and hilarious way of showing it, and all of her scenes were the biggest highlights of the film
Why would you be skeptical of that? It isn’t hard to show a character who has good things consistently happen to them and emerge unscathed from disasters. It’s been done before. The only reason anyone would be skeptical of the visual component of that ability is because… the dialogue in this movie says you should be skeptical. Not for any actual reason
@@VideoGuy232 what a weird reason to comment on someone's comment. They couldn't imagine how her powers could be represented. Is that so hard to comprehend? Just leave it alone. Gosh.
@@wowza2050 They’re giving this movie credit for something the movie blatantly instructs them to give it credit for (it’s in the scene). And nobody, including the 4 thousand upvotes, questioned it at all. Which is kind of weird
@@VideoGuy232 I don't see how that correlates to the comment. the characters in the film being skeptical of the power overall doesn't translate to an audience being skeptical of how it is represented in the film. Two different things. Most people in the audience expect the "subversion", but it's not unusual to wonder if it'll be represented in an engaging way.
@@The-Doctor6969 It’s unusual for a marvel movie. These are multimillion dollar films with tons of visual artists working on every project. I’ve never seen anyone question how a character’s powers would translate visually. There are heroes with far less visually compelling powers than domino who get entire movies to themselves. So again I say, the only reason anyone would question the capacity for marvel to make this particular hero’s powers engaging is because the movie tells them to.
Fun Fact: Domino isn’t just lucky, she makes everything and everyone else around her unlucky as to manipulate the energy to her favor. That’s why there is so much havoc and chaos around her everywhere she goes, everyone else got super unlucky!
It also really benefits her in a fight, especially with multiple opponents. Because then her siphoned good luck causes bad luck specifically to those she's fighting. So there aren't even extra innocent casualties in those cases.
Domino cable and deadpool often interact in the comics so it wasnt really a coincidence we got her here. Shes basically the th±ird member of the superhero duo "Cable and Deadpool".
Fun Fact: Domino emits an aura of a unique variation of pseudo-telekinesis and kinetic energy manipulating force that subtly controls objects and series of events to favor whatever it is she wants or needs. This is why things would fly in weird angles for her or when shes exactly at the right spot everytime.
@@escherdaxx7691 Yes you could simply call it that, but theres actually more to it. Her powers are more scientific than magical and it requires a specific set of parameters to work compared to pure probability manipulation which is possessed by Wanda Maximoff.
@@escherdaxx7691 iirc her power only activates if there is a possible lucky outcome for her while there has to be an unlucky outcome for the antagonist
I like how for someone to be 'lucky' and always win you would expect them not to bother actively learning or picking up skills. But Domino has clearly studied martial arts, acrobatics and other tricks. This in turn increased her skillset which gave her more 'chances' for her luck to kick in.
Like that moment in comics, where Darwin's power decided that best way of surviving being nearby Hulk's rampage was "teleport to other side of continent"
@@adrianmiskiewicz6762 Its gets even better if you imagine his power of adaptation taking the easiest route necessary to get the job done. So his power was essentially like “Look, I could just make you an indestructible stone or something else, but it would honestly be easier to just make you teleport farther than most teleporters in fiction have teleported than do all that.”
To be fair, Darwin would've just turned into a radiation vaccum and game over Bruce, but they wanted Hulk to not get one shotted. Darwin is essentially the marvel equivalent of Doomsday.
Fun Fact: Domino needs to "actively" try to prevent bad things in order her power to kick in. for example, if she just stand still under a falling building, she will be crushed for sure, but if she actively try to run for her life, she will be just fine after it.
But what about when she got into the truck and the driver's gun jammed? She literally looked at him as if she expected that to happen, there was no active prevention.
@@jonahmudlaff6576 True, but the other aspect of her power is the people around her become extremely unlucky. Her power's seem to have a passive effect of always making the people around her unlucky. She can basically steel a persons luck and then channel it for her own positive outcome. In this case, the guy who pulled the gun was made unlucky and his gun jammed. I think...
@@Avalanche041 That would make sense (in, uh, in a superhero universe, obv XD), since an inanimate object can't be lucky or unlucky, so she can't "steal" their luck to help her.
@@jonahmudlaff6576 I just view it as Domino, being human like the rest of us, is passively striving for survival & avoid pain i.e. not getting shot by a gun, and her power will always kick in to manipulate her surroundings (gun jam, blown-up doll in the way to cushion her fall) so that her death doesn't happen unless she wants, often at the expense of other('s luck).
Kinda. Her powers can only make the IMPROBABLE happen, not the IMPOSSIBLE. She wouldn't be able to beat Juggernaut by herself since nothing she had could hurt him, much less stop him.
Probably my favorite bit. She might be lucky but Juggernaut is an unstoppable force that just might make her luck run out. She'd rather not even tempt fate against him lol.
A character I hate to love, because of all the bad luck she brings to innocent civilians all around her. But it's a superhero movie and we're supposed to set that aside for the enjoyment of the spectacle. She was easily the most likable and "normal" person in the whole movie.
i love her character. the whole city scene with deadpool doubting her cracks me up every time. i would kill to see a whole movie with her just getting extremely lucky
@@danishh1385 This is true. Still, it would be easy to write that character as a bitch, who goes through life without regard, because everything just comes to her. She's got many layers, though. Says unexpected things that are spot-on. And her luck doesn't seem to translate to everyone around her. In fact, she's a one-woman walking catastrophe! But somehow, you just think the people in the flipped car are OK and there wasn't anybody standing next to the front windows of the buildings the prisoner transport drove into.
Marvel has been searching for an ethnically diverse strong female character to lead a franchise for years, and all this time they have had Domino on their shelves. I would happily watch this all day, she’s great!
Fun fact - in the comics she's chalk white skinned with a black patch around one eye... But she's also a B list character so the so called "anti-woke" types didn't get in a rage about her being race swapped because they couldn't farm it for views from racists... And the saddest thing is that she's not in Deadpool 3 :(
@@TheMastermind729 or: Movie comes out to positive reception Scenario: crying about somebody rights, race, gender Actors: acting worse than dead fish rotting at the coast. Now guess what do i mean, schmuck.
@Mark Milton Not an albino but has vitiligo, as in her character has it. I think we are fine with representation, albinos being such a small number of human population. Makes total sense.
I love how confident and unsure she is of her powers. Sometimes she totally expects to be lucky but sometimes she is doubtful, but gets lucky anyway. It was an amazing idea to include her in the movie.
What I love about her lucky power is that it isn't completely broken. Yeah sure her telekinesis is like guiding her through a complex maze full of deadly traps but she still need to move. On top of that she knew that she can't win every battle, like when she saw juggernaut for the first time
I think it's because either it's never been fully fleshed out and people just guess, or in my case, vaugly remember hearing how it was said to work. A few mention she has telekinesis or other types of powers that are at play, but the one "explanation" I remember hearing is a bit more dark. Domino essentially has a mind that is always in fast-forward. Her subconscious mind litterally "sees" every possible choice she can make befor she makes it, including those that would see her killed in every possible way. She then chooses that one path that sees her "not" wind up dead. Which is kinda cool, but also dark, as she sometimes has flashes of those "deaths" that happend when her subconscious power isn't in full swing.
If it was known how it works, someone would probably be able to come up with a way to counteract it... I guess she's lucky no one has quite figured it out.
At 2:49 the way ladyluck fleeing from the scene after watching Jaggernaut unleashed...!!!! "Sometimes Running from a fight is always a WISE thing". -all wisdom elders
Note that Deadpool saying her superpower was imagined by "a guy who can't draw feet" is a nod to Domino's co-creator Rob Liefeld who tends to either obscure feet or draw them so very terribly wrong.
I would be so onboard with a Domino movie. Not sure how they'd sustain the schtick for feature length, but I'd like to see them try. Also, Zazie Beetz ❤
Other than a supervillain, I could see how she could have inner turmoil from inadvertently causing her loved ones to have bad luck and misfortune due to being around her. That would be an interesting hero’s journey
I really like her powers. It's not only entertaining it's funny to see the way it all works out. Not the same old I'm so powerful I can't be stopped over and over.
Some of these powers are just standard Marvel suerhero powers. Edit: Come to think of it, they are the powers of any action film protagonists, like Tom Cruise, Liam Neesom, etc.
2:59 I love that even in a small scenario like that, Domino was lucky enough to start telling her joke first and the other guy was unlucky enough to tell the same joke after
I absolutely adore Domino! I saw that she won't be included in Deadpool 3. If MCU has any sense at all they'll give her her own movie. Like someone else said, the way they portrayed luck as a superhero skill in Deadpool 2 was brilliant.
I like how Deadpool showcases some of the mutants you wouldn't have seen otherwise, giving them much bigger roles likes Colossus, Negasonic Teenage Warhead, and Domino.
@@SioxerNikita Negasonic Teenage Warhead was originally a telepath in the comics. To me, it seemed like they just took the name and used Canonball's powers. But now, they changed the character in the comics to match the movies.
@@jasoncollins3930 Nuclear Detonation: Negasonic Teenage Warhead possesses the ability to generate explosions from her body of varying degrees. At lower levels, she can send a car flying away, crushing two enemies. At higher power levels, she was able to level an entire scrapyard and destroy a grounded helicarrier. Negasonic can infuse the explosions she creates with her physical combat. She can use her powers in conjunction with a full body charge to attack superhumanly strong opponents such as Angel Dust. She can also use her explosive powers to cause a downward explosion capable of launching herself high into the air. She can also control the kinetic force spectrum, and energy field of her explosions, allowing her to create a concussive forcefield that shielded her from Firefist’s attacks. Deadpool (film) 40 Energy Field Bomb/Concussive Force Generation: Ellie possesses the ability to generate thermo-chemical energy from her explosions and release it from her body to use it as a concussive bomb. This energy is used as thrust to cause her body to be propelled through the air, at great heights and speeds. She can also use this energy field in order to detonate her surroundings from her own bodily thermals. The energy can also be used to heat up other object in her proximity to a melting point, while she is charging up for an explosive bomb. Her power can also be used in order to create her own concussive force from her body, allowing her to strike opponents with extreme explosive force.
@@jasoncollins3930 To point it out, she wasn't based on Comic Negasonic, she was based on Movie Negasonic, and if you have a complain of that, complain to the X-Men movies, not Deadpool.
Including Domino is genius!!! The combination of things she overtly does that go her way and things others do to harm her that don’t go their way is so clever.
Yesss, Her power works that way, she sucks luck from everyone and everything around her... And using it for her own benefit... A VERY useful ability to have but chaotic XD
She needs her own mini tv series. I guess it would be fun and refreshing to see, since her power would be extremely challenging for the screenwriters to write a practical screenplay 😂
It's impressive how they did this considering that characters in action movies are already pretty lucky. (They fall from great heights and land on something soft, a bad guy's gun jams at a lucky time, they cut a random wire on a bomb and it doesn't donate, etc..)
Dominos power is the most feminine thing I’ve ever seen in all of marvel. And that’s why I like her so much. Feminine power done correct and look how POWERFUL it can be. It was just sooooooo cool to see it in this movie. I hope she’s in the newest Deadpool
Her powers still follows the laws of physics she can’t pull off the impossible, anything with a large enough attack or just a reality warper can kill her (unless there’s a flaw to either the attack or reality warper)
@@tommymoua3274 if she tested her luck against the juggernaut in the movie she would’ve died, her power is plot armor yes but that shit ain’t saving her in every situation
@@tommymoua3274 nah juggernaut could kill her, there was no alternate situation that would save her at that time hence why she said she’s not gonna push her her luck when he appeared
The thing I like most about Domino isn't just that she's lucky, but that she capitalises on the luck of the situation she's in. Like when she gets flipped up in the air and immediately turns over, or shooting the oxygen tank that's in a perfect position for her. Also the "you're doing great!" "X-force!" exchange was super cute.
Honestly they nailed this. In the interview scene I just thought she wasn't going to get picked but... she really held her own in a pretty awesome movie.
Those three guys participated in abusing and torturing those kids for God knows how long, because they're mutants. They're already traumatized. Seeing those jackasses die was therapeutic.
FACTS They can throw in a trash ass Black Widow solo movie along with an Echo series who no one asked for btw but no they won't cook up her back up her as Domino and her own film? WTF and omg Marvel if you're listening please give us that sexy Olivia Munn back in pink tights in her own solo movie from X-Men Apocalypse. She's the only reason I watched that boring piece of shit called X-Men movie 😅
@@Leodog92Facts. There was only one stunt double capable of riding a motorcycle that matched Domino’s skin color and she perished while filming this. Stunt doubles don’t like taking on roles where the previous stunt double perished. Until there is one willing, we won’t be seeing Domino on screen in any film, let alone a solo movie.
Man I wish I could do that everyone around her becomes super unlucky and she becomes the luckiest person in the room. She’s always right about everything and always lucky. I wish I had that well, don’t we all actually.
It's certainly the most overcheated power in my opinion. I like speed or fly, but if she wants, she can become the most powerful hero and also the scariest vilain of All-Time. She can do everything she wants...It's just ridicoulous 😅😂. I like Domino ❤👍🏾.
Fun fact: There’s a guy who has bad luck as a superpower and is connected to her in that every time she gets lucky something bad happens to him. He does not like her at all.
