This was a Tony Banks composition. Tony used his Synclavier II without the sampling options. An Emulator II sampler. The Yamaha DX-7 was used and a ARP Quadra. Phill used his Simmons kit and Movement drum computer. The long deep bass notes is the Moog Taurus bass pedals played by Mike using his feet. Domino is the best song on the album
You'd need to watch Mike and Tony's individual interviews on the 1992 Way We Walk tour. Both of them show snippets of the guitar and keyboard parts respectively. 🙂 Genesis has always been a band that never stuck to a specific formula for every song. They explored and were influenced by every musical style, incl. pop, jazz classical, soul, rap and grunge. For instance, if you heard Fireside Song, The Return Of The Giant Hogweed, Blood On The Rooftops, It's Gonna Get Better, Mama and Congo back to back, you wouldn't necessarily recognise them as the same band, let alone Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford in every incarnation that existed throughout their entire history. That's why they're my personal all-time favourite band, because of its wide diversity and sense of drama. 😊
Genesis, particularly Tony, loved to tinker with unusual combinations. They were the essence of prog. One song often felt like 4 different songs strung together. Sometimes brilliant, and sometimes a little frustrating. But there was always a magical quality on every album that sucks you back in.
One thing about Genesis is that they do not do the expected. They often very intentionally compose unconventional songs. Early Genesis was not radio-friendly, lol. You should see this LIVE.
