Hey everyone. A lot of concern out there that I don’t know my meters-to-feet conversion. So let me clarify here: When I say “about 6 feet” etc. I’m referring to lengths commonly sold in the U.S. Most HDMI cables are marketed in whole numbers of feet Hope that helps.
@ozmika9914

3 1/3rd feet = 1 meter :) / or very rough sizing is divide by 3, so a 6ft cable is 2 meters

This video helped a lot. I purchased a cheap 5 pack of hdmi cables 7 years ago for my old 1080p tv and old blue -ray player. But I have been having some problems with cables starting 3 years ago and I'm like what heck is going on. I've now upgraded to a 4K tv last year, a newer blue-ray player, a PS4 and a new a/v receiver. A few cables I had to toss which was annoying part but someone told a cable is a cable is a cable, they are all the same and buy the cheapest. So now I know, thank you!
@davidbenning10
@davidbenning10 Год назад
Yeah, I learned this the hard way, too. My old HDMI cable works well for 1080p content, but for 4K HDR the video would stutter. I learned that for 4K HDR the cable must be a certified high speed HDMI cable of around 18gbps or more. Live and learn!

Linus Tech Tips did a great review on HDMI cables. Linus bought a $10K cable tester and a whole bunch of common HDMI cables and the results were pretty thorough. Basically, most of the cables touting 2.1 standards failed miserably. Including Monoprice. Infinite Cables consistently performed as advertised and are not expensive. The only exception is their fiber optic long HDMIs. They are expensive, but not as much as the uber-expensive cables for money-spending enthusiasts.

So the question I would have, is how do I tell if the cable I am using is actually doing the job at the rated performance. Just because a cable works does not mean that the two devices have not negotiated to a lower bandwidth or speed to make a stable connection. In other words its more than just if I have picture and sound its perfect because a cheep cable can make picture and sound work just not at the rates needed for say a Xbox Series X. So for a couple TVs how do you display the status of the connection to verify that I am getting full 48 Gbits/sec?

Hi Caleb, thanks for a great video! In South Africa we have an issue with long cable runs, old and newer equipment mixed in one installation. I found that converting baluns to Cat6 for longer runs work well, the trick comes in on the cost of the baluns, I found that the same applies as to the HDMI cable, the cheaper ones are crap, the high end ones sounds like snake oil so the best would be floating in the middle.

The ARC still keeps coming off where the tv speakers are on instead of my soundbar. Thought I fixed it. The other cables next to the ARC kept kicking it off. Then over a day without the other cables in the ARC kicks off again. Even got the supposed "8K" cable does it. I like Blue Jeans Cables. They have a cable for any application up to HDMI 2.0. They won’t honestly certify any cable as HDMI 2.1, because the testing spec STILL isn’t well defined (the “mess” mentioned in this video). They address whether their “FE” spec cable will ultimately meet a 2.1 spec, and don’t lie about the answer. Also, they identify where each of their cable families are made. A very trustworthy source.

Unfortunately, the perfect TV you posted a month ago slipped by before I could get it on Prime day (the 77" A80J for only $2000 which is my budget). The three TV's I'm primarily considering are A) $1500 Hisense - 75" Class U8H Series Quantum ULED 4K UHD Smart Google TV B) $1900 Samsung - 65” Class S95B OLED 4K Smart Tizen TV C) $1500 Sony - 75" Class BRAVIA XR X90K 4K HDR Full Array LED Google TV Biggest concern going non-Sony is whether the upscaling for the Switch will be too lackluster. So S95B looks ideal, except that it's only 65".

Infinite Cables are the only cables to buy in my opinion. I have tried to buy cables by all given advice and quality was never as advertised and I had too do too many returns for weak signal handling.

Just got my new Sony XR-77A80k and can’t get my Yamaha sound bar to work. Already tried different HDMI cables and nothing. But when I use Apple 4K it works fine , pretty annoying having to use three different remotes since neither the Sony or Apple Remote control the volume on the sound bar.

How to avoid Playstation 5 flickering issue? Which HDMI cable do I need? Also I have Apple TV the screen flickers to black and then turns back on, this happens every few seconds. I'm definitely outdated on my HDMI cables. I need to get new cables for my T.V. To resolve my issues. I have a Samsung QLED Q80A TV.

Curious if the future will be USB C cables for everything including replacing HDMI? Also, I think they should start color coding HDMI ports and cables like they do with USB versions. Make it much easier to identify with the standard user.

Pro Tip for advanced Users regarding stresstesting HDMI Cables: (because Resolution, FPS/Hz and even HDR are only one half of the video signal) If you own a PC or Laptop with a modern GPU/Graphicscard, connect it to your TV via HDMI and set Resolution and FPS/hz to what you want to test (like 4K 60hz/FPS) ... then go into the GPU Settings (Nvidia Control Panel, AMD Radeon Software ect.) and look for the Setting that lets you choose the Pixelformat (like RGB... & YCbCR...). Based on the TV/Screen you have (it needs to support the higher end formats), there should be a couple of settings to choose from ... the most demanding Format (regarding Cables) is "RGB 4:4:4 Full Range" at 8, 10 or even 12 Bit. If your TV/Screen supports this, activate it and see if it you have a stable connection for about an hour. I've had plenty of self proclaimed high end cables which seemingly supported these types of outputs, but a lot of them had the tendency to randomly loose the signal (short interruptions aka black screens) after some time of usage. PS.: Sometimes TVs/Screens don't correctly report their supported signal formats to the graphics card and let you choose formats they themselfes do not support. AMD has a Setting called "HDMI Link Assurance" to prevent this from happending. Nvidia should revert to previous Settings (if you receive a black screen after applying) after about 15 Seconds, if i remember correctly ... don't quote me on that^^ And Intel ... *sigh* ... just don't try this stuff with Intel GPUs, trust me. Kind Regards

Yeah. I tried all 3 chroma fornats on a Google Chromecast with a plasma, and they surprisingly worked.

Don’t forget audio, it can be surprisingly hungry too. E.g. Dolby True HD can take up to 18mbs apparently.

I have a Vizio sound bar and it’s connected to my tv and there’s always a delay when I’m starting a video in any app. I used the cable that came with the sound bar. Should I get a new one?

It was very confusing. What about HDMI cable which comes with your new TV or Soundbar ? They are HDMI 2.1 or not? We can use them or we have to throw away and buy very specific one ? I do not undertsand 🤨

I have an LG C1, most "advanced" things I have hooked up atm are an Apple TV and a Switch (plus a MiSTer) and I have 6 ft Monster HDMI cables on all of them (good price at Ollies), but eventually, I'll probably get a 4k streaming capable box. Realistically, what cable is needed (if you're staying in that 2-3 meter length and non in-wall)?

me too , just got a C1 coming from 1080p panasonic plasma not looking forward to replacing my main cable, because is involves a trip into my old dusty attic and lots of fiberglass , my old cable is probably not going to be good , but as for a 4k streaming box I would just stick it to the back of the TV and rely on ARC if you are using an AVR, this is what I intend on doing for now, I might just plug in my 4k chromecast with google TV and my 4k fire stick until I get a new AVR and a new cable as I don't yet have any next gen systems , highest one I have is a PS4. I also just bought a rock pi 5 and I am wondering if there is a way to connect that to the back of the TV and get 4k streaming , mouse and keyboard from my gaming PC into the C1, hopefully wirelessly or I could run an ethernet cable or maybe get an ethernet to coax adapter as I already have coax

Any chance you could do a video of the 48 inch oled tvs. I’m caught between the Sony or the LG. Please please please.
