@@MrBezyBez I have an 05 1.8T 4motion Passat wagon. I'd say it is essentially a luxury vehicle. Full leather interior, massive amounts of interior space especially if it's a wagon, good build quality, it drives like a luxury car thanks to its shared platform with the A4 (especially if you have AWD), and many luxurious options/trims were available compared to other VW vehicles of the time including the very unique (and supposedly very annoying and expensive to service) W8 engine. It was definitely a step above the accord you mention and the pricing matches this, the passat base model started at around the same msrp as the top of the line accord available at the time, and the most expensive passat model with the W8 was almost twice the cost of the base model Passat. Of course it is also 20 years old now, so most newer cars are gonna seem more luxurious in many ways.

I used to work as a technician at jag/landrover in the UK, I can tell you from experience, the "Annoying electrical issues" on range rovers are not just "annoying", We had a '09 sat in the shop for a month getting diagnosed with a different electrical issue every day, It was bricked and wouldn't even turnover. Until one day a "red sheet" comes in and they swap the whole transmission, I was an apprentice at the time working under the diagnostic and electrical guy, Probably one of the most depressed people I've worked with, Scrolling through 160 error codes on a laptop and guessing what the real issue could be was hard for the guy with years experience working with the cars, I doubt if you buy a especially bad example you'd actually fix it. That was an especially bad example, But it was common range rovers came in with electrical faults that would be in the shop for close to a week while the whole interior had to come out to check wiring harnesses and old corroded connectors, Seems the problem is mainly daignostics though, One wire goes bad you get 20+ faults. one fuse burns out you get the same. So it can be a simple fix, its just luck. Also the amount of special tooling jag/landrover uses is just diabolical there are some mechanical issues you just wont fix as a home mechanic if you're not pulling engines or can find the tooling.
@alexg1778
@alexg1778 24 дня назад
Thing is with Landrovers is if you get a good one they're actually brilliant. Its just that they're not as common as the bad ones and there's no way of telling if it's going to be bad or not, just pure luck.

It has one common coolant leaking issue that requires the supercharger to be removed to replace the part, but nothing a backyard mechanic couldn't do. Bought a 650i convertible used. Around 38,000 miles on it. Actually, got a lot of complements. BUT, N63 nicked named the hot v, puts the twin turbs in the valley of the v8 block. This had a tendency to dry rot the hoses, keeps the turbos in a hot environment, which caused catastrophic engine failures. I had zero issues with the engine for the time I owned the car. Likes to eat oil so you are adding oil in between changes. But the reason I sold the car was the electronics issues. I had the radio reset on me twice, but the alarm would go off randomly. The only way that you could turn the alarm off was to have the key fob open the driver's door and start the car. Turn it back off did not arm the alarm and fifteen minutes later its going off. Do the same things. Alarm wouldn't go off again until the next night. Then the next day while at work. After a couple months a couple oil changes and fearing for the doom of the motor I had enough and traded that car in. For a Cadillac ATSV!

As someone who's owned that era of Land Rover, run far, far away. Those "electrical issues" basically mean every electronic component in the vehicle is going bad constantly, and because it's a Range Rover there's a LOT of electronic components and gizmos. The air suspension is iffy at best, and be prepared to constantly be replacing control arms and brakes. Oh, and did I mention the 14 MPG? Hope you like spending most of your paycheck on gas. The L322 is more reliable than a P38 (the prior generation), but that's a bar so low worms can get over it. The Jaguar engine era Range Rovers are supposed to have more reliable engines, but those BMW-era engines are really, really sketchy. And those "vacuum leaks" they talk about with the Bentley are why it's so cheap. Specifically, one vacuum line behind the engine that is used to control the turbos, and is notorious for getting brittle and shattering. The only way to fix that is, as they say, to move one or two things out of the way. Unfortunately, that one thing is the entire front subframe, and that's at Bentley mechanic prices. Be prepared to spend more on fixing that issue than you paid for the car.

@@SDE90nah, you all are over exaggerating things because the internet loves to do that. the main fault that this era of land rovers have is battery voltage related electronic issues. the 4.4 Jaguar sourced AJ engine is one of the most reliable engines made in the 21st century, I challenge you to look online and find me any common catastrophic faults the 4.4 has. they do not have timing chain issues, (updated strong tensioners) they have an MLS headgasket which can sustain very high temperatures before damage from a coolant leak, well designed coolant system, nothing outside of regular maintenance, I regularly see them on marketplace with 300k miles. these cars are very good to own, the air suspension is not that complex, and you all regurgitating the same legends simply makes it easier to find good long lasting examples.
@h7pubg
@h7pubg 21 день назад
most of these things you mention are the nature of any SUV, land cruisers also eat through suspension, brakes, and get horrendous gas mileage. you’re exaggerating the electrical problems, it’s not that unusual compared to other cars. the air suspension is also fairly simple and inexpensive, most of the times the original air bags are still fine 20 years later, they can go through compressors which is the most common air suspension issue and very easy to access/inexpensive. people want to feel “smart” by limiting themselves to certain cars when majority of these issues are common old car issues and wildly exaggerated.

2:04 As an owner of a maserati from 2005, which has the same trans as the 08, the f1 trans just needs to be treated right, only shifting in the manual mode, putting it in neutral if you are at a long red light, and taking your foot off the accelerator when shifting, ive done most of the work to this car with my dad and weve had a blast driving it. the time spent working on it pays off in the end trust me. the sound, the high rpms, it all results in a beautiful car. i haven't heard of anyone spending 5k unless they take it to maserati and treat it like a toyota. its a high performance italian car with its quirks and that should be considered when buying one

As a F10 M5 owner, I would specify that yes the N63 is the one they are talking about, the later years 2014 and up are N63TU and most of these issues were fixed. Go with the 2014+ M6 or M5 instead it has the S63TU which all issues have been solved and engines are more reliable with the cars hitting 120k miles often. Only draw back is you are not willing to do the maintenance yourself (oil changes, spark plugs) then yes dont get it as you will get ripped off by stealerships.

I have an '09 Porsche Cayenne GTS. The original sticker was $83k, but I got it a few years ago for $17k - I love how luxury cars depreciate! I save $$$ by doing my own work - I've had to change the water pump, thermostat, idler pulleys, and tensioner when the serpentine belt broke (my bad) - and I now am changing the CV axle (actually doing whole front end while I'm in there, as it will be a lot easier to do it all at once - control arms, tie rod ends, sway bar link). Even so, that only amounts to about $500 / year, which is not terrible - and this car is designed to be worked on. I do not like the 14MPG from the V8 - but it is a fun car, both on the track (with summer tires) and on logging roads in the snow in MT (with snow tires).

Actually the headbolts are not the biggest problem. The Spur Gear and Camshaft adjustors and cams are toast at 130.000km at pretty much every M156 we got, when i worked there i did logistics and we were waiting around 3 months per 1 part, and before i left we waited 5 months until those parts were in stock again because there are no cams from mercedes anymore, theres a company which is producing them on order... Love the thing. Previous owner was super meticulous with it -- always on time with service but got it polished wayyyyyyyyyy too much to where the clear coat was destroyed so i did put like 6k into paint but don't really consider that to be the car's fault. again, comes down to how much money you have and how handy you are. for perspective, i make over a quarter million and do most of my car work myself but no way can i do engine-out at my place; so when that s63 does give me issues, i'll be spending 15-20 on a total rebuild since its gotta come out anyways for most major repairs.

For one the knob in the middle of the two dashboard air vents works not just to open and close the air but also to heat and cool the system. -so first be sure that the simple knob is rotated to show blue instead of red... then in my case a belt connected to the compressor seemed to have failed due to me trying to blast cold air with the middle heater knob on... so changing that is expensive. My coworker Cummins came from range Rover in new jersey. His dealer was one of the importers. He always said it was 10 to 20 percent
@h7pubg
@h7pubg 21 день назад
this is silly, most range rovers of this era do not have common random electrical issues, they are almost always due to surface level battery drain, clueless mechanics try to figure out every code when nothing is actually wrong, they are known for this and the fix is as easy as giving it a charge/regular use. this makes sense that during the shipping process there is lack of use. this is true for any electrically complex luxury car, the electronics themselves aren’t magically filled with gremlins, they use the same wires as anything else, but they are dependent on a very healthy topped up battery

We got paid a lot extra to drive that thing, but it was so awful to drive, I preferred making less money and driving a regular stretch. For one thing, you couldn’t turn the front wheels unless it was actually in motion. It had power steering, it just didn’t work unless it was moving. Parking was awful. And God help you if you had to pick someone up in the Fairfax District on those little narrow streets. You basically could not turn. One cool thing was that if you were coming south on the 405 from the valley, when you got to the top of the hill in the Sepulveda pass, you didn’t have to touch the gas pedal again until you got down to Santa Monica Boulevard. Every single "fancy" bit on your car...is a $5K (if not more) nightmare waiting to happen. It was a consistent trend when I was writing cars, adding a piece to my software and my jaw-dropping, thinking "Holy crap...that piece costs how much!?". I can appreciate fancy cars, and some people who have the money/time/interest to dedicate to keeping them serviced and running properly...but 90% of these cars are "eyes too big for stomach" purchases and end up being absolutely thrashed and abused. While I have the money to go and buy something nice...I just stick to simple, low-end, manual transmission cars, and let the other people spend the big bucks :D

Woop, 2008 Range Rover L322 3.6TDV8 owner here. I've been a fan of those cars for many years, so here are a few quick tips to get prospective buyers going. If you rather save a bit of cash than get the latest and greatest, get the 1st facelift, those are from 2006 - 2009. The fanciest are the 2nd facelift - from 2009 to 2012. The later one doesn't have anything that important in terms of extra features, it basically swaps some lights with LEDs, updates a bit the infotainment system, and adds keyless start. Considering how much more the 2nd facelift tends to cost, I'd say it isn't worth it. Either way, I recommend replacing the infotainment screen with 10" one, they are sold all over ebay / aliexpress / etc for about 400 USD and are straightforward to install. You'll get basically an android tablet that fits as if it was OEM, and it wireless Android Auto / Apple CarPlay. Makes the car feel a lot more modern in my opinion. If you want reliability and fairly cheap repairs, go for the 3.6 TDV8. It has good reputation and is the most common engine on the L322 so parts and mechanics that know them are fairly easy to find. The 4.4 TDV8 is the second best option, but if you need to rebuild / replace the engine - you'll probably have a bad time... Decent 3.6 engines can be found 2nd hand for about 2-3k USD, 4.4s go for two-three times more... at least in Europe, but that probably applies for everywhere because most L322 were sold with the 3.6 TDV8. That being said, the 2009-2012 4.4 TDV8 are the only ones that come with the 8 speed ZF, the rest of 1st & 2nd facelift come with a 6 speed ZF, which is pretty good and reliable to be honest, and it's not like the car is loud on the motorway / highway. Early models (up to 2006), like the BMW engine model mentioned in this video, come with a 5 speed transmission - avoid that, it's not good at all... Better to avoid all L322 that are pre facelift (before ~mid 2006). There are a few other engines available, the top of the line being the 5.0L supercharged petrol available from 2009 to 2012 (2nd facelift). Their major issue is with the timing chain, supposedly the tensioners give out and the engine dies if you don't catch it on time and fix it. With some preventative measures, they are supposedly fairly reliably considering the power output, but again - repairs ain't cheap on those. There are a few range rover specific forums out there, they are a great source of information. I recommend you start digging in those for tips on how to spot a good car before you start looking to buy one.

I bought a $10k BMW 550i. It has the highly problematic N63TU. The only reason I was comfortable buying it was because the dealer said they'd give me a warranty. Which has come in handy five times in the two years I've had it. It's had well over $10k worth the mechanic bills already. It's a great and fun car, but do not buy one without a warranty.

Thank you for your content. I cant believe the luck. I was going to order a air ride suspension from your store today for my 2012 Maserati GranTurismo S, but your review was so incorrect and totally not the experience I have had with my car for the last 4 years. The automatic does not have a clutch only the z manual transmission does, so you do not have to change a clutch pack out in the auto. I live in Alaska and have driven my car 70k miles back and forth from California to Anchorage on the Alaska Hwy, twice now. I will say the Ak Hwy is the best video game ever and the reason why I bought a touring car that in some places I have reached 185 mph. And time tracked my best 150 mph speed for 12 mins in cruise control. Its is so reliable I have added many formula dynamic aftermarket parts to for because this car costs me nothing to maintain. It does 4.6 s in the 1/4mile not 5.0, it has been tuned to 500 hp with simple add on stage1 controller, exhaust mods, air intake and sport cats. I added upgraded sway bars, lowering springs and hub centric spacers. Cheapest car I have ever owned for the power and performance plus the reliability. I do all the upgrades and oil changes, dif oil change, new brakes, plus the 50k tune-up service myself in my garage, and I am no mechanic. V8's are easy to work on and this car is so simple to maintain. So next time talk to real owners who have the cars and drive them hard like they should to get good facts. Sorry but I will get my air ride direct from manufacture. l

Valvetrain wear issue is overblown too, my oil analysis are still perfection at over 100,000 miles. What people don't talk about enough is the cost of a front brake job. I’ve seen so many 650i’s have issues, I’ve seen people spend $10k plus on issues when they come in the shop. Some of the biggest issues are the comfort access door handles internally short and blow the fuse which is also the fuse for the abs module. They all leak oil, even when you think you’ve fixed the leak they’ll leak from some where else. Turbo coolant lines are a headache and a 10hr job alone that’s really common. Valve stem seals are so common bmw has a class action against them for it and recently I’m starting to see the fuel pumps and modules going out intermittently causing random no starts or rough running issues. IF you have to buy an F12 6 series DO NOT get the 650i for your wallets sake. Get the 640i with the N55 it’s the same interior and body with a more reliable engine

Both mated to a 6 speed ZF transmission. 2006 did have the same drivetrain but still had the some BMW issues like the earlier years.
