AI has alot of good uses which I go through in the video, Generative AI is not one of them. Support Halo artists instead of AI Generation. For Example Gruntington does every single HD spartan you see in my thumbnails twitter.com/MrGruntington
@@lastchanceihave Because the people in charge do not believe it makes them money, or costs too much. No point in being skilled or talented anymore. Cry all you want, money is what talks, not us.
As much as I agree with this, I also expect that it will never happen: Greed & laziness.... People want as much as possible, whilst doing the absolute least as possible..... 😮💨
yeah I do appreciate seeing popular Halo Content creators using their popularity as a way to convey both positive and in this case negative feedback on a large scale MS and 343 appear to be lost. My friends who I grew up with on reach who played Halo 1-3 before I did said reach was different but still a solid addition to the franchise to be sure. At this point Id be scared to know what theyd say about current Halo Used to use Halo as a boast; how I was proud to like a game so much and its art, etc Now I dont even know what to talk about Halo-wise Show was an embarrassing flop Games are getting worse This isnt what I saw for Halos future when I was a wee lad
I think we should make a new norm of naming any game which uses AI in artwork or art of any sort as AI slop or Corporate Slop, the more these terms are used the more these corpos will actually come to senses (if they have any left in the first place)
I'm sure once this AI shlop finally kicks into full gear (it will) there will be steam groups and easily discoverable places like reddit where people will tag any and all games that have generative AI involved in their production.
This is their logic: if AI work, it'll be very successful, so investing in it makes sense. It could take decades to get there though. So why not train/test it on this Halo game we already fucked up?
I'm actually impressed by 343i and Microsoft's determination to kill every last bit of joy we had left in Halo and gaming overall. Edit: 8 likes? damn this doing numbers
this is so weird since AI has already shown signs of being a bubble. also want to clarify since some commenters seem confused. Automation is NOT ai, using ai to do monotonous tasks is a bad idea since its inconsistent and can mess up, unlike automation. The bots and enemies in the halo games do not use "generative AI" honestly the word "AI" to describe them or any other enemy ai isnt really accurate but its the word that the industry uses, the computer uses the context of the situation of the enemy/bots in game and uses trees and a load of "if/then" statements to make a decision (i am kinda over simplifying it but that's basically how it works). There seriously needs to be some kind of an AI tax, it lowers the quality of products, takes away jobs and is just in general worse for the economy (IMO)
Completely unrelated but I saw people almost died from a book about edible mushrooms that was on shelves from Amazon and it was AI made. Literally it cannot be relied upon.
Machine learning makes more sense, there's nothing Intelligent for stuff nowadays called as "AI". Using Machine Learning for bots or NPCs makes more sense, but the issue is how demanding on hardware it would be lmao.
@@saricubra2867Presumably the sensible middle ground, for now, is to train bot profiles using generative AI and then ship the game with those behaviours included, rather than having the bots learn in real time.
@@emm_zr0674 There are three groups: - execs/shareholders - devs/labor - customers/players Two of these groups are allowed to suffer the effects of cost cutting measures while the other one benefits from it. Without fail.
It's not even that cool, instead of controlling the world AI will just get people fired, then once you have no job corporations will generate slop to sell you. I prefer the terminators.
I get your point but the funny thing is Cortana is much more like a real human (especially given that her 'AI' mind is a cybernetic copy of a clone of Halsey) and she's done probably as much damage to the covenant as Chief. But yeah, you are right.
Why would they use ai for halo, every time ai never make Spartans look correctly and it sad because a game on the Xbox store uses ai for the cover art. It’s terrible that we are now dependent on ai for everything and not natural talent, this is the downside of technology evolution
@@sleepyjordan887 AI doesn’t make Spartans or Anything look Correctly There is a Game that Uses AI to make the cover art And We are Slowly being more dependent on AI for everything (I was lost in what I wrote to which is crazy)
No one has ever believed me when I mentioned this almost a year ago. I watched a video about Halo in an 80s anime style which I thought looked really cool so I tried generating my own AI art in the same style. Then I realised that many of the outcomes looked similar to the filler shop helmets in Infinite. Keep in mind I used Bing AI, which is owned by Microsoft, who owns 343.
No its over, Look past the AI at their *INTENTION* Halo's dusted. They have not learned a Thing. Not a single thing in 10 years of continual blunder. And they continue to prove to us that their focus and ideology is not compatible with the Halo that the fans expect or want. And just when you think they couldnt make it any more clear, they go and do stuff like this. Its mind-boggling on so many levels.
Appreciate you bringing attention to this. I'm a graphic designer and I have been struggling to find work for 2 YEARS while AI continues to advance and take jobs away from artists like me. I have 8 YEARS of experience with many professional work experiences and freelance jobs under my belt, but I will never stand a chance against companies investing in AI over human created art. In a few years time, who knows if there will even be Design positions ran by humans! Its that hellish right now in the Graphic Design/Artist job market.
@@babytricep437And what do you have to say to the many people who’s work are replaced by AI too ? That they should have gone for another job ? Get another diploma ? How could they’ve known ? The problem isn’t what this guy is doing for a living. It’s that everyone is going to be replaced sooner or later by AI is we keep it that way.
There is no inspiration in AI. Nothing to look up to. Think of all the concepts and iconic works. What is there left I always dreamed of working on halo. Making concept art. Designing armor/weapons. Without the imagination of creatives we wouldn’t have recon armor/eva etc… Now we just turn to credits and it’s all. What. ChatGPT? We are in hell
All art is iterative and draws inspiration from some other source. Your gripe is that a computer is the one doing it and argue that a human can create better and yet we have the last ten years of human creativity as a snapshot and I gotta say I'm not impressed.
@@148crusader AI cannot create anything with soul the way an artist can. It doesn't understand what art is, and it takes no joy and no skill in the making of its slop. And saying you have a good grasp on all human creativity over the last 10 years is a VERY big claim.
@@148crusader taking the human out of art eliminates decision making/process,comprehension, personal experience, style. Ai can’t revise art. Ai can’t take feedback, Ai can’t draft up sketches and ideation All Ai can do is think itself to death because it’s out of stolen and copyrighted work.
@148crusader Just saying, not only can AI not creat art, all of its "work" is a mishmash of actual artists works. It's actually so bad at it that in instances you can see it original image it's making into slop.
@@Samuel_Loegandawg hating 343 is justified. They’ve had a decade to make a good game they still haven’t. They’ve made 5 games, and have failed all of them. 3 strikes you’re out.
Calling it now - the entire industry will realize AI content generation doesn't work in games in the next 2-3 years. Then, 343 will release the next Halo game in 4-5 years and it will be full of AI generated content and it will be awful.
If 343 makes Halo with AI, this is going to kill the series, I think Microsoft doesn't care, All they think this is that this is going to make a lot of money.
I actually made a video back in March 2023 about how Microsoft had laid off 10,000 of their employees whilst making record profits and putting tons of funds (millions) into AI. To sum it up shortly, Microsoft was basically replacing tons of employees with AI and more funding into it 😅 As you said, nothing but a bunch of slop and I hate it. I'm an artist and fear about the future of art based work every day 😢 Thanks for making a video calling out the trash for what it is 😊
Thank you for calling out all the bad about AI beyond just “it looks bad.” It’s literally art theft and environmentally dangerous as well. Thank you Mint.
It isn't art theft because none of the current AI models are trained on non consenting data. It also isn't art theft because nothing is being stolen. The AI is using the data it is given to generate similar images.
according to the fair use of copyright laws, any creation of a generative ia doesnt have copyright it means that we can use it freely, the only way microsoft can place copyright on ia creations for halo is the ip itself or if they modify the product generated by an ia so it can comply with this law.
One of the reasons for the strikes in Hollywood was that studios wanted to use AI in movies, and the pressure was enough to make them back down on that idea. That just shows that if people take action these corporations will have to change, since they still depend on consumers, and unfortunately in this case the action would be to boycott and not buy the game, as much as it pains me to say
Blows my mind, 10 years ago I would have never imagined we’d have AI, and that it’s putting people out of a job lol. Right out of a Twilight Zone episode.
Sometimes news like this makes you wish for SkyNet to actually become sentient… like at that point they’d just decide to fight against the machines and not use them lol. At least we know the executives who made this awful decision are the first targets for the terminators lol
If AI is used for initial concepts, sure that’s one thing (still sucks), but if they are using AI for the final product, that is completely unacceptable.
Should actually be the opposite way, the way I see ai work in the industry of entertainment, so games, animation, tv and movies, is by using it as an extension of your human workforce, a designer designs the initial concept and helped by the ai it refines details and so on, now instead of having 40 animators digitally animate every single scale of Godzilla, you can have ai speedup the process and so on
I agree, I'm employed as a ml engineer. One point I would push back on respectfully would be that ai tech does allow small businesses the ability to compete with the big boys. But yeah soulless mega companies using it definitely is not chill. Especially for our beloved halo.
It's time to start a big petition to make Microsoft sell the Halo IP. Let us have a well made smaller game instead from a REAL studio. I would love to pay a DLC rather than microtransactions
Ai can be used well if its done properly with human effort, so I wouldn't outright call the byproduct of ai usage (when involving humans) slop by default. Really it depends on circumstance.
When I first heard of you, it was basically a faze dude for halo. Now you’re “fighting the good fight” against 343. Hell yeah mint we’re all behind you, you’re spitting facts 24/7
I’d be looking at MS not 343 for this call. MS has a lot of money in making AI a big thing. Personally I think there is gonna be an AI crash when it becomes obvious that people aren’t into using AI for everything. The AI ads make me roll my eyes so hard. Like it just comes off as so unnecessary in so many instances lol.
God that’s pretty disgraceful - I understand using it as a tool or using it to sketch out concepts, but relying on the AI solely will just ruin creative ingenuity and it belongs NOWHERE near Halo. I’m so so sick of corporate Halo!
It seems to me that AI will sooner or later find its application in the gaming industry, but now it is simply not adapted to tasks that are more difficult to create cursed images of master chief
While Lag Comp, cheating and SBMM has lead to me only wanting to play old school games against bots having to play bots trained on players in an online environment is unappealing and for the same reasons that playing against human players is unappealing. Imagine having bots that have been trained in an online environment where at least a third of the players are cheating or have a lag comp advantage where they see you half a second before you see them, you end up with the same experience you left behind, except now there's no one on the other end to care if you call them out on it.
I couldn't have summed up the problems with AI generation better myself, I'm definitely using that "AI slop" term in the future. It especially rings true as someone who works in improving AI as their day job. Excellent video 👏

It's art, redefined. It's the great equalizer. No longer the domain of the elite or conglomerates. Now, individuals can craft excellence, bypassing traditional gatekeepers.
I hate this timeline. Seriously. Why are we pushing for something that's trained on actual human effort without the soul and genuine passion behind it knowing full well that it fails to do some of the most basic things? I'm all for using AI as a tool for assisting in something, but for being leaned on to create everything is just inconsiderate to the people that it's trained off of.
@@thatoneswarmdrone6409 I am unconvinced. Maybe the execs are, but I highly doubt the rank and file are into it. The only practicing (ie. haven't been kicked upstairs into management) gamedevs I've encountered who were enthusiastic about generative AI were bad at their job, and there aren't very many of them who are *that* bad at any studio.
@babgab If you look up a youtuber named Pirate Software, hes an active developer and made a video going against an initiative called "Stop Killing Games" that aims to preserve live service games after developer support ends. Rank and file devs, especially those in group leader positions are definitley in on corrupting the game for profit. As for if rank and file specifically support AI? That depends on what carrot gets dangled in front of them.
@@duck_entertainment No, it's actually terrible. It's like copy/pasting code verbatim from StackOverflow. It's only helpful if you literally can't do your job any other way. If you know what you're doing, it just slows you down, because it usually produces code that "looks" right but has subtle bugs that you then have to spend time finding. You spend less time just writing the code properly. And with gamedev, there isn't nearly as much training material as stuff like React and other webdev tech, and gamedev frequently requires "weird" code to solve weird problems for specific games, so the AI doesn't even produce common code as helpfully as it might for other kinds of software. For art assets, it's also not as helpful as people think, because there's little to no control over the details of the finished result. Maybe it would help you in prototyping, but art directors can be picky and want details almost down to the pixel changed in exacting ways. AI doesn't help you with that very much. It's also such a black box that nobody has any idea why it does the wrong thing. Again, only helpful if you literally cannot do art yourself and don't care about the details. Generating AI in software just a stupid fad that execs like because they think it'll save them money. It won't last and investors are already waking up to that...
You can easily tell something is AI generated by how soulless it is. People that put their heart and soul into art are much better looking than this AI slop that half the time don't even look realistic in any way, shape or form.
Skill based matchmaking made me quit infinite. I just realized I couldn't enjoy the game knowing every time I played well I'd be punished for it. I don't want to play a game I only enjoy 50% of the time. I honestly can't even enjoy the wins cause it feels like it wasn't fair.
Can’t wait for Microsoft to pikachu face when the ai generated micro transaction filled piece of shit halo game they make flops because people have respect for this community and no one is stupid enough to trust them anymore.
I get the use of AI to make to work faster and I use it sometimes myself, but my philosophy is to never crutch on it and I do agree the way they are doing it for a quick buck is AI slop, of course leave it up to corpos, are going to take the laziest option that none of the heart that goes with it. In the way I use it, if I want to see Master Chief as a Viking type armor with an Energy War Axe, I would hand a copy of the image to an artist and say, "Hey do you think you can make an epic battle with master chief looking like this fighting Atriox?" and then I would let the artist work their magic and based quality of their work like if it's Todd McFarlane type quality I am likely to make "excited m o n k e" sounds and I would gladly buy a copy from them. If I can do something myself, I will do so myself. Being aware on how poor I am in the grand scheme of things, I do use AI on parts I struggle with. However if I had millions of dollars at my disposal, I would scoop up the best talent I can and pay those people the way they should. Seriously when it came to ODST armor, I was like "Look how the massacred my boy..."
I wish you would make a video on the horrible halo support website ticket system. I’ve had 10+ tickets open for 2 years with them and none have been resolved. Probably one of the reasons the player count is the way it is because when the game breaks you get no help resolving the issues.
I am pro AI for Halo if 343 Industries is at the helm. 343 Industries is too incompetent to make fresh new content without it. Just give Halo to id Software already, they don't need much or any AI to make legendary FPS bangers.
Ai is a tool. Not a replacement. These companies will only fight for profit cause that's the business. I use Ai at work and to help with Mt dnd campaign. But it's a tool to help with work not supposed to replace the work I do
Using AI to do the tedious tasks like creating textures could be valuable to everyone. There may be very useful applications for AI in gaming that only help devs and fans create better games within budget.
this would put material artists out of a job, plus AI doesn’t know how to create actual textures yet, and if they did they would look like shit. No thanks
AS a graphic designer myself, AI isn’t going anywhere. Artists need to learn how to use it to make their art better than it already was, it’s either get with it or get lost at this point
@@itisgooddaytobenotdead.5126 I'm sure it was the ass hats looking over 343 that told them to break BTB for the first 3 months of the game, put in a racist Juneteenth nameplate, leave MCCs matching broken for YEARS or show us Master Chiefs ass in a TV show. You can blame the ass hats above for a lot of things but 343 themselves made some decisions that are worse than what an AI would make
I think generative ai in Halo will be the final nail in the coffin. Microsoft/Xbox is the only thing that’ll kill Xbox. First a new Studio takes over Halo, now being switched to a new Engine, and now AI taking the human out of the game. Literally, not even Halo anymore. Not to be pessimistic but I really think “the best is behind us now”.
