I work in a lab that performs quality control testing for many of the gums that are found in these ice creams, as well as many other food items. All these gums at their base level are made from raw materials that are found in nature, and they're all for the benefit of the ice cream, helping them remain stable until a certain point in time (a more simple example of this: you know those ice crystals that form in ice cream if left in the freezer for a really long time? They add a gum called guar that prevents that from happening sooner). These gums are all natural and more often benefit the consumer, not harm them. If you're going to speak on why these ice creams shouldn't be eaten, point to the corn syrup and sugar, because they do more damage than the gum ever could.
The artificial flavors which cause food addiction and the food additives which have never been tested in the same combinations for extended periods, are my worry. 60 mins, over 30 yrs ago, did an exposé on flavors designed to make people want to eat more by the flavor dissipating quickly.

There are reasons to suspect some emulsifiers do some fuckery with the tight junctions of the colon and might cause autoimmune issues but it's not sufficiently studied in actual, whole organisms as opposed to cell cultures. In general, the names of chemicals are way worse for natural products. Natural products are a large mix of compounds, but if you extract one of the major chemicals from a natural product the name tends to be too complex so we give it a friendly name like "vanillin" instead of "4-Hydroxy-3-methoxybenzaldehyde".

Well, it's not ice cream. It's a frozen dessert. You can't legally label something "Ice Cream" in the US unless it meets a specific threshold of real milk content. The big reason why those desserts don't seem to melt is because they're essentially aerated vegetable oils with sugar; it's basically shortening made to taste/feel like ice cream. It's not necessarily a bad thing, especially if you want a frozen treat that won't disintegrate into a sticky mess immediately on a hot day. To be blunt there are probably way worse things to eat than an ice cream sandwich, not to mention that I barely eat ice cream sandwiches and ice cream in general so it's not like one day my body would just keel over (or however the phrase is supposed to go) all because I just so happened to have eaten one or two ice cream sandwiches that day.

Recently started trying high acyl gellan gum to make vegan milk tea and it's really neat to see the results! Please tell me why bread needs a dozen preservatives and seed oil emulsifiers, when it needs 5 basic ingredients? Glycerine in tortillas is even more offensive, the only ingredients should be corn flower, lime water & gum. Those glycerides are added into a food slurry that later is shaped into the products that you buy, that doesn’t sound very conducive to health eating grains that have been formulated from a liquid in a factory. I’m sure native Americans were putting soybean oil in their corn tortillas.

I make my own ice cream. Two cups vanilla Greek yogurt. One cup condensed milk. Stir in whatever you want to mix in. Freeze. Or, beat 2 cups whipping cream until soft peaks form. Stir in a can of condensed milk, (or less) & flavor/added things. Freeze .

But a small bowl or chocolate or vanilla ice cream every once in awhile is most certainly a "healthy" snack in my eyes haha. Obviously not healthy but much better than anything you'll find in the actual snack isles in supermarkets nowadays. Everything is so processed and sugar filled you are basically eating embalmed sugared.

Okay, you gave the name of the ingredients, but you never explained WHY we shouldn’t eat them. What effects do they have when consumed, and at what dosage? I’m so tired of these fear-mongering tactics and the subtle shaming that comes with them
Here's the thing, those gums are sugars and fats. That sticky syrup is holding the cone together. It's literally glued woth syrup. We can argue about it being better or worse, but there is zero evidence that it's poisonous, dangerous, or unhealthy.
Finally a comment thats not just sheepishly following the trend. Lol 98% of the people calling this poison have no idea what any of the ingredients are. I dont know either but Im not jumping to the conclusion that its poison
Well they certainly cause a lot of gastrointestinal problems for people, and if these ingredients are banned in other countries, then that should tell you something. 🤷♀️

The artificial flavors are designed to addict you. 60 mins news showed this 30 yrs ago when they interviewed a food chemist who said the goal was to prompt u to eat more.
For all of those thinking that it is gross, if they didn't have them inside your ice-cream would squish itself under its own own weight even while it is still frozen. The others melted because the have shells that can hold its shape better.
@@pooleyclan1 That sounds like a terrible ice cream with big ice crystals in it. Ice cream needs the egg yolks as an emulsifier. Also, next time you're in the dairy section, check the heavy cream carton. I've yet to find one that doesn't have some type of thickener/emulsifier, such as carrageenan in it. Which, by the way, comes from red seaweed, it's no more unnatural than corn starch or arrowroot.

No. The consumer has. It says directly on the box that it is a frozen dessert. Just like Dairy Queen, they are not allowed to call any of their frozen products ice cream.
I can’t even find my fave brand Turkey Hill in my lil city any more. :( But I def no longer have the means of making homemade. (Lack of time & freezer space.) For those who are scientific name challenged...mono and diglycerides refers to one or more of a certain list of oils like sunflower, palm and/or soybean oil. It's really not that scary. Gums and emulsifiers are also not scary nor necessarily artificial. In fact, it's usually cheaper to use natural emulsifiers. What is scary is sugar content.
OK, but you can live a healthy lifestyle and once a week have a tiny ice cream bar or a freaking piece of toast with cinnamon on it or freaking fruit literally there is no healthy foods. It's how much you eat of it that makes it healthy like I could eat salad every every day but if I ate a ton of salad with a bunch of other additives, it's not gonna be healthy.
