We all know that life is difficult, but no-one begins on that journey without having dreams and ambitions. As we get older and encounter experiences, we suffer failures and setbacks and events beyond our control begin to determine our destiny. This is when most people are tempted to give up on their dreams and develop different belief systems.
In this Ted Talk, Dr Patrick Treacy shows us how he reframed obstructions in his life as opportunities by holding onto his dreams. His challenges dealing with a HIV positive needlestick as a doctor in a period where there was no cure, becoming a prisoner of Saddam Hussein while visiting Halabja before the outbreak of the Gulf War, and smuggling cars in order to fund his way thorough medical school when Margaret Thatcher's new government policy deprived him of his educational grant. Thankfully, he never developed AIDS and he left Iraq to pursue his dreams of becoming a Flying Doctor. he tells us that when giving up on your dreams is tempting, that is the time when you need to pursue them more than ever. He shows us not to have any regrets - and not to live in the always thinking about what might have been. One must find a lesson in every failure and apply it to discover your ultimate purpose in life and connect every decision you take back to that purpose.
Dr Treacy was awarded the “Top Aesthetic Practitioner in the World 2019” at the MyFaceMyBody Global Awards. He is among a few doctors in the world to have won the AMEC Trophy in 2014, 2016 & 2019 for varied research relating to the use of stem cells and platelets in treating cancer cachexia and reversing skin necrosis. He won the MyFaceMyBody Trophy in London (2016) for medical research relating to the use of platelet-rich plasma, growth signalling factors and 633nm red light in both facial rejuvenation and hair transplant. He is recognised as one of the most influential aesthetic practitioners in the world being named in the MyFaceMyBody Ultimate 100 Global Aesthetic Leaders in 2017, 2018 & 2019. His research has strongly influenced this specialist area where he has developed global protocols relating to dermal filler complications and wound healing, as well as pioneering techniques for HIV facial lipodystrophy facial endoprosthesis and radiosurgery venous thermocoagulation. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Goodness that’s long covid for you !was only stress coz people don’t believe my stories .You would I’ll bet and that scam you referred to might be mighty more complex than you think and I’ve only made connection of where you andcyihr friend went wrong after a first read of your book nearly 3yrs back , it would be a good thesis and way easier to talk if youre following my thought process . We’re both victims and deserve a rest . Cheers and I don’t drink now but worse at a barbecue like I am than was and my stories getting wilder and spreading further and more unbelievable as get older and I’d be hsppy just seeing my son grow up and I live a reasonable retirement

I really relate to you Patrick as I had a great start in life in a different way to yours before starting oxbridge streaming process at a public school where I was ostracised for being a grafter and sportsman and quite intelligent and became a loner and I ran away for many yrs travelling when I dropped out at 17 in second last year . Couldn’t come back from shame , very bad , got lower as I got nearer to home from other side of world and did some very dubious things to survive which landed me in big trouble and shame / regret most of my life that I’d been a failure to all around me . Tainted . But I rose like you to heights that I didn’t think possible or accept until I admitted none of my badness of youth was my fault . I did what I did to survive in a different world and used the guile / strength intelligence from being a loner and making decisions . V good ones in extreme circumstances where I surprised my self how calm and logical I was . You will have learnt who to trust or not and my goodness and advice has sometimes been ignored by others travelling who really were not equipped or experienced to chase the quick buck . There were many very clever people travelling in our way and I learnt from one of the best and in retrospect he saved my life but not his later because I knew shah to look for . Your guy in Istanbul you have misunderstood till now I feel. He sounds like a good guy who saved you and I know a big about these things . Very common all over in Certain parts of world. I think you should stop punishing yourself and stop thinking of trying to better yourself. You help others enormously . Just my thoughts and you mah wish to respond as we have slog in common . You’ll be surprised if we went through our former lives that we both should celebrate for that real 1st degree in survival abroad worth one anywhere and an extra quiver the key to any success in life . Meet real people I wish you a continued great career and slow down I am . Excuse my stilted writing on here I’m always a lot more light hearted and openly joke about my past to anyone . You know Patrick I could relate the odd story I’ve told over yrs and met mates 40 yrs later and apparently I had ticks crawling out my stomach from peritonitis wrongly diagnosed coz I was in hospital under assumed name of a bottle of whisky from kitchen table at flat. Cue hospital gown ! Yiu know the score

Never being able to tell my partner has always been a hindrance or difficulty with cross cultural marriage and education and always wanting to protect and care which can be misconstrued as being weak and become bullied . I go on but I’d like a response to my learned thoughts on this matter before I engag in an interesting subject . I hope to see a comment soon or maybe comments need moderating

Even modest dreams die in this world. You won't get to your dreams without the powers to be. They don't give a hoot what your dreams are.
