Cool tutorial. If I could offer three bits of feedback to perhaps aid my fellow noobs: 1. If possible, a high visibility colored cursor would help considerably in keeping up with the instructors actions. White cursor on a white field is no problem if you're the one moving it, but for the viewer it's like trying to track a mosquito in room with dark walls. 2. It would give students an much greater comprehension of the "why" a step or feature is used if the instructor could describe what the individual terms mean and what their purpose is in the design. 3. If the Instructor reduced the pace of the lesson just a little, it would allow for the information to "sink in" and be processed a bit more before jumping to the next step.

I’m so looking forward to the cnc expert page to finally go online. I’ve done the 1-10M&L in fusion 360, mastercam and I’ve already done it in SolidWorks as soon as it went up for 20$. I did the art of fixturing, and now waiting on the 5 axis stuff to be released. I’m going to do it all, then camp in your parking lot until you give me and opportunity to work for the best damn manufacturer in America, Titans of CNC, Boom! Lol

Awesome video Titan. I just recently ran across your channel and subscribed. I’ve been using Solidworks on and off for 11 years. I’m still using Solidworks 2011. I use to do some basic CNC programming. Recently, I’ve got some products I’ve designed and your enthusiasm from your videos has gotten me excited about doing some programming again and possibly pick up a used Haas TM 1 or 2 to make them on, instead of sending the parts out to be made. It’s nothing too crazy..... Thank you for everything you are doing to get kids and others introduced to CNC machining.

Just a couple quick points. There is no need to make the points in a sketch and the use them with the hole wizard. That sketch can be done within the hole wizard. Did you notice when you trimmed out most of the angled sketch segments in the cut feature turned unconstrained (blue). They were fully constrained before and its good practice to fully constrain a sketch before closing it out. One last thing. You added a chamfer on the outside lower cut that unmachinable. Maybe leave that off for a later date where you can explain the lead-in and out required to make a chamfer on that edge. That's a nub mistake we see all the time.

Thank you for this, I have just joined your academy but for a beginner hobbyist do you recommend solidworks or fusion360?
@travisguilbeau8404
@travisguilbeau8404 3 года назад
I use both. Depending on what you’re using it for should determine what to use. You can use Fusion for everything, design, machine, renderings. Solidworks is good but if you have assemblies in solidworks and import to fusion you’ll lose what’s called “Mates” in solidworks.
@Montizuma
@Montizuma 3 года назад
Is there noticeable benefit to using solid works over fusion 360?
@flikflak24
@flikflak24 3 года назад
well you go from a 50/50 cad cam program to a 80/20 cad cam ( fusion may be better at cam then solidwork but its not as powerfull at cad as solidworks is at cad and the other way around )
@RoboDriller
@RoboDriller 3 года назад
Should I go from learning on fusion 360 to solidworks?
@wisniamw
@wisniamw 3 года назад
most of the programms are pretty similiar, if you know how to work on blocks, you should do more or less ok in different programs
@brahtrumpwonbigly7309
@brahtrumpwonbigly7309 3 года назад
Fusion 360 is nice to know because it is free for everyone except businesses making more than 100k a year, which makes it pretty popular. I wouldn't pass up the chance to learn solidworks, but fusion is a good low cost option that will get you pretty far.

So cool to see some solidworks tutorial ! interesting way to make the model , what's good with solidworks or other cad software is that there is multiple way to achieve your goal, personally as the part is symetrical i would have draw a center line first then cad only half side of the part do a symetry then work on the extrusion and voila ;)

Non absorbed sketches (the point sketch used to locate the holes) in the feature tree is not considered a best practice in Solidworks. This leads to a bad habit of having lots of non-absorbed sketches all over the feature tree, resulting in a mess. The analogy in software dev is "spaghetti code". Non-absorbed sketches result in "spaghetti feature tree". Additionally, the hole wizard feature has it's own "point sketch" (absorbed into the feature on the tree), along with a 2nd sketch that is the hole in profile, revolved - this is built into the hole wizard feature. I recommend placing the holes, THEN editing the absorbed sketch that locates the holes. Second, the chamfer added to the edge created by the V pocket is not machinable at the ends of the edge, because a spinning cutter gets too close to the vertical walls, and the cutter and/or chuck would hit the vertical wall. I'm surprised a CNC shop would put this in a tutorial video. One way to make the geometry machinable is to add "lead outs". In practice the drawing for the part may have an annotation pointing to the edges that cannot be machined, and say "LEAD-OUT OK HERE"
