Jenna Siladie I don’t necessarily disagree with your comments except that SY appears to have a problem with stamina. Granted, Don Carlo(s) is a long song but under the assumption that the tape on RU-vid was all from the same performance, Yoncheva sounded much better at the beginning of the opera. Those initial high notes were impressive, pure and simple. I am of the opinion that the big aria was not at the same level. I think she went from extraordinary at the beginning to very good in the aria. My judgement of course.
The top is getting occluded in sound and the beginnings of a wobble are forming. The breathing also has started to sound effortful. (Hear her recent il pirata too). Yoncheva has one of the greatest voices before the public but she is pushing herself into this heavy repertoire and she can sing it well, but I’m not sure it’s where she would be best...
Great moments of opera the problem is her voice isn’t well developed and the registers aren’t completely connected (her low notes are horrible and chestless )
The original version was in French (italian composers can sometimes write opera in French, like Donizetti fille du régiment, or others...) then Verdi made an Italian version. This is the Italian version that is played now most of time. The French version is longer, one act more, and in my opinion more difficult to sing (as it is in French)... Watch the Met broadcast in March with a very good cast
@@davidgray5964 all of the variations were originally sung in French it was sung in Italian first at La Scala at the discretion of the house and singing it in Italian has stuck Verdi was ok with it but he didn't write an Italian version
