I live in Japan and visited Singapore last year and I was surprised to hear the song without “Quijote” it was like waiting for something that would never come..
Was in Tokyo last week and visited the Don Don Donki megastore in Shibuya. They called it Don Quijote in Japan. It’s a huge 7 storey store with everything imaginable you can buy.
It's Donki here because Singaporeans wouldn't find Don Quijote as catchy as Donki.I suppose. Even though Don Quijote pronounced in short is still Donki~
After you've been to Donki a few times, u know their product range and even at a new outlet it's easy to navigate and find what u want. Those maze shelves only works to confuse the new or occasional shoppers.
Yea and i'm a shopper who just goes directly to the products i need. I now never spend more than 10 mins in donki donki and that includes the paying/bagging process and if i can't find my usual products because they moved it, i'll just move on lol
The pattern is there is the raw food area, where all the shabu shabu beef and fruits is, then there is a cooked food area where a lot of working ppl will head to for their meals, then the sauces, Quick Cook instant foods like Ramens.. the Cold aisle for frozen and then dairy products.. usually there is an order for it..the alcohol aisle usually near the checkout where there is more staff and more cctv, in case of theft and breakages.. while cheaper items like snacks tend to be in areas less monitored and less staff..
in most Shopping Malls, they wont put a big clock, they dun want you to know how long you are in the malls, ideally they want you to forget your parking is almost up and its time to leave..
also usually the items that ppl need to buy most often is placed right at the back of the mall, like milk or eggs or rice..etc so to get to that item, you will likely need to walk past a lot of other rows and be distracted by signs like PRICE DROP, NEW ARRIVAL, CLEARANCE Price, etc.. and hopefully pick up more items which is not on your shopping list or what you intended to buy also.., also for items with multiple brands like sugar or flour, usually the budget or cheaper price brand is at the lower rack, so your eyes see the brands that the mall want you to buy more of.. it usually dun work for items where there is brand loyalty, like shampoo for example as ppl will look for what they normally use, but for items where ppl dun care much for brands like sugar, salt, flour, tissues, general use items, they will put brands that cost more in the eye level rows, while cheaper brands are placed lower.
The Miracle Shopping song is in way more than just two languages. It has been translated to the local languages where Donki has a significant presence. In Hong Kong, they have a Cantonese Version while in Thailand they have a Thai version.
Here in Hawai’i we have Don Quijote, same as Donki. That dang song plays all the time 😩It’s more a plantation type store because it carries everything! It’s so much fun to wander the aisles.
Living in Japan and only referring to this store as Don Quijote or Donki, it is weird to hear "Don! Don! Donki!" all the time. At first, I thought it was just a gimmick this documentary/investigative report made to hint at the store's catchy song. But the more it was mentioned, the more doubt I had. And then they showed the store name, and I was not prepared. LOL. So weird.
The original name is "Don Quijote" and in Japan, it has always been "Don Quijote" or "Donki". So hearing that the store is not only called another name and even use that name in its storefronts, it's a bit off-putting. Japan refers to Starbucks as スタバ(Sta-ba-) but the store itself is still officially called スターバックス(sta-baksu). I am not saying "Don! Don! Donki!" is "weird-bad". I'm saying it's weird in a way that it feels off to me.
At first they want to called it Don Quijote when they open their first store in Singapore, but that name has already registered by another restaurant so they changed it to don don donki to avoid any patent iasues abroad
Also to target kids, Candies and things that kids like are placed at a shelf height that is that of a child's eye level rather than higher up which is an adult eye level. This is so that kids who walk by will see the items, like a candy bar..and grab it and their parents will pay for it.. it is also placed at checkout so that a kid may grab a candy while the parents are checking out.
whats the point of getting the guest "influencers" in the video? where/what exactly is the value add in them appearing on screen? mascot of DDDK is a donkey? its clear that they are totally unfamiliar with the brand.
Honestly, the dddk stores in Singapore aren't nearly as claustrophobic as the ones in Japan XD when I went to a dddk in Tokyo, boy the aisles were tiny as hell

Between Decathlon and Don Don Donki, i prefer to visit the former. But so far i have not bought a single item from either of them. My favourite megamart is still Carrefour and Kmart.
Our Very first DECATHLON store in the Philippines was opened in SM CITY NORTH EDSA NORTH TOWERS. It was a game changer in our sport stores. So far I'm pleased and satisfied with DECATHLON.
10:03 I think he meant to say that the drivers would come on the half hour. So every hour (not 30 minutes), but at 10.30, 11.30, 12.30.... then makes sense for there to be 10 batches from 10:30am to 7:30pm
The Donki theme song is highly annoying for me as a shopper. I will quickly zoom in on what I need, buy and get out. Can't imagine if I were to be a staff, I will go crazy.
Haha so now I know they purposely arranged the shelves in a way that you will end up walking through most of the store! Not gonna say which outlet coz I don't want to get anyone in trouble, but I frequently asked to be let in through the cashier section just to pick up my weekly dose of baked sweet potatoes, and thankfully they usually agree.
Don Don Donki, the largest Japanese mega store in Singapore, attracts over 1 million customers daily with its 13,000 different types of items on its shelves. The store intentionally overwhelms shoppers with its messy and claustrophobic layout to encourage them to spend more time looking through the products. The store's playlist, arranged by its IT team, is a mixture of Japanese songs and its own "Miracle Shopping" song, which is played two to three times within 15 minutes. The store aims to distract customers into staying longer and buying more, a technique known as the "groin effect." The store is a treasure trove of unusual products, such as a dental peeling sponge, big fish SN, and savory crab ice cream. The store also employs a 1.7m-tall inventory robot, named PAL, which uses an infrared camera and two RF scanners to navigate the store and capture data on the RFID tags of all products. PAL can do more inventory work in one night than seven humans can do in a month.
Honestly, the original in japan stores is less grating. I was always sleepy whenever I go to Donki and find myself dancing to the tune. Psychs myself up haha.
went there with my friends. walking around felt like adventuring through unknown abandoned parts of the store. we found an "adult corner". and it was so secluded. like a back alley with the chain fence acting as walls. so many products in hidden areas.
Oh that's why I seldom buy anything at Donki. For groceries, sometimes you just want to purchase in the shortest time, not get lost inside trying to find that item you want. Still need to compare prices between different Donki stores?
Was in Singapore last month and was my first time at a Don Don Donki. The song got me 😂 and I ended up buying a Donpen shirt - wish they could bring one of these to the US but I doubt it would be possible with shipping/logistics.
Don Don Donki in SG sells too many unhealthy snacks & instant noodles. Essential items are so few, neither traditional Japanese snacks such as Japanese chestnut pancakes. There is a much smaller store at Plaza Singapura B1 ( can't remember its name) that sells more traditional Japanese snacks than anything else.
Well, well, well... Dear Singaporeans, if you have a lifelong return and exchange policy with no conditions at your Decathlon stores, enjoy this opportunity! Here in France, even for members, it's limited to 1 year, and the product must be in perfect condition...
i swear I enter Donki to buy one thing and end up with a basket full of stuff and an empty wallet. So now to prevent myself from overbuying, I just go to Donki twice a year. If i have to buy something at Donki, I set a timer. If i can't find within that time, then I ask the staff lor. Helps save my wallet. Otherwise go broke in Donki
Can the Donki management actually post the full English song of Miracle Shopping theme online? It kinda sucks there's only a full Japanese version but not English one.
Haha so now I know they purposely arranged the shelves in a way that you will end up walking through most of the store! Shopping in Don ki is such a huge turn off as its super messy and cluttered. And things are not cheap either. So that makes it 2 reasons not to shop there. Rather go to NTUC Fairprice
Aisle claustrophia and labyrinthine movement isn't anything new. Malls with their escalator placements or directions are designed to take you on longer paths so that you cover more stalls on the way up or down. Malls and their shops need our eyes on them, can't fault them for employing such means.
Annoying jingle. And because of the disorganized & jarring arrangement of Donki's shelves (reflecting on the owner's mental state), I simply don't enter the store at all. No need to get a headache looking for something. Besides, their things are expensive, overpriced. Lousy product packaging. Their food is also lousy & expensive.
Quechua is pronounced as keh-chua. It is the living language of the Incas. It is one of the most widely spoken language of South America. Yes, it is the language of the Incan Empire. It was the lingua franca of the empire then. It is also now an official language of Peru.
Went to Japan's Don Quijote last Christmas with my family, and it seriously had everything you need on full display--so much so that it was very overwhelming. All 7 beefed-up floors of merchandise at a great price 😅 At some point I almost got lost finding what I needed and ended up in the adult (toys) section. Really amusing that I somehow ended up there in awe with my mother.
Struggling in Malaysia because you can access Japanese products via online, local supermarket chains, plus some import regulation which limit the merchandising mix.
