Author Don Hayner tells us about his recent full-length biography of Jesse Binga, the first black banker in Chicago. Binga is a classic Chicago tale of an ambitious man who achieved the American Dream only to be punished for it. During his rise to wealth, his home was bombed six times and his business twice. Binga became a lightning rod for the deadliest race riots in Chicago history, while also becoming a symbol of hope for Chicago's Black Belt.
Don spoke to us on February 2, 2020. You can find the book Binga: The Rise and Fall of Chicago's First Black Banker at press.library....
