You can tell DJ has been in Miami because he's nice and tan here. Ah the 80's.... we were young, healthy and full of life. Cell-phones and CD players were the latest tech and life was just plain GOOD. I really miss the best decade of my life.
foskten10 , you’re so right my friend. The 80s were the greatest decade and it was the best time of my life. Doing my best to keep that 80s vibe alive!
A talented and underrated actor. He was at the top of the showbiz heap for a short period of time, at least, after Miami Vice became hot. One of my personal favorite actors.
@@TheShockwave44 Yeah, but things cooled down for him career-wise, considerably, for a number of years not long after this time. He didn't sustain the enormous success, that obviously many other male actors have been able to do, which is a mystery to me since he has the obvious talent and charisma to do have done so.
@@loveanimals6981 He had Nash Bridges after for another 5 years but he also has 6 kids. Probably wanted to spend more time with them. He's also worth $50 mil. I think he could take it easier.
I agree, that end shot showing Philip Michael Thomas, the guy didn't look all that happy or pleased. I think it slipped Don Johnson's mind when up on that stage, but didn't he have a clue, that without Philip Michael Thomas starring with him in the show, that he might not have won that award? He could of at least thanked his on screen partner for helping him look all so good. Maybe the Golden Globes that year could of at least thrown Philip a bone, maybe "best supporting actor in a series"!
I've had a crush on Don Johnson since Miami Vice premiered. Mature Don Johnson is still as 🔥 as Miami Vice Don Johnson. He'll still be good looking when he's 90 ♥️
ZapgermsNow All that running in slippers on hard tarmac roads/pavements. Wonder if he insisted on wearing more supportive footwear in later seasons. Haven't seen past the 2nd.
I started high school in 1980, and college in 1984, and I never once watched an episode, or a portion of an episode, of that show. I didn't watch TV. Crazy, huh?
For everyone asking why he failed to thank Philip, two things: 1) He mentioned more than once while at the mic that he couldn't think--he had so many folks he wanted to name. 2) Just because he obviously failed to mention Philip, it doesn't mean he was purposely snubbing him...the man's human, after all. I'm willing to bet that either it dawned on him once he was returning to his seat, or maybe someone even may have reminded him of the oversight, and that he likely apologized to Philip either then, or at a later point. Philip may have initially been hurt by the no-mention, but I sincerely doubt he took it personally--as I say, Don's human, and just as susceptible to making what seems to others to be an impossible mistake. Besides, we all no doubt have said or done things, only to realize/find out afterwards that we somehow overlooked some part of it that should have been the most obvious inclusion. It happens--no one's perfect.
Totally agree with you. As usual, it's just comments from a bunch of folks looking high and low for reasons to be oh, so offended on the behalf of someone who doesn't even give a damn. lol. Despite the rumors, Don and PMT have always gotten along well. Don's said that Philip was the absolute sweetest guy and pal he's ever had the pleasure of working with. That's why he wanted him to play a character on Nash Bridges all those years later. And PMT says that working with Don was always a joy because they would always strive for the same things....wanted to reach the same goals with their series and knew they could do their best through supporting each other. Unique chemistry that was formed through a real partnership that stood the test of time. Not mentioning Philip in one damn acceptance speech years ago doesn't amount to much at all in the larger scheme of things.
RM Worthington Exactly--thank you. See, you and I actually get it: Donny and Philip's friendship transcends the trivial matters most others choose to get hung up on.
@javajunkie101 watch the commercial he did with some sports guy. he does sonny again for the first time in over 20 years i think. the clothes, the hair, the shave, the music. only 10 seconds but what for 10 seconds. we need a reunion movie.
@Charleybones "Don should have been kind enough to mention his acting partner who was also nominated and didn't win. Kind of snub" My thoughts exactly. I was really expecting him to at least mention PMT, who was sitting right there and was shown a few times in this clip. But I really thought he would have at the very least mentioned those he worked with, as they all supported his character on Vice. I think it would at least have been the courteous thing to do, not to mention the right thing.
When you're up there under the spotlight, Infront of all those people, you can't always think of what you're meant to say.Its afterwards that you think"oh,I should've said that....Don was always the star of Miami,it could've been anyone as his sidekick.
I agree. It's downright impossible to think of every single person you want to thank (or *should* thank) when you're put on the spot like that. DJ stated he really didn't expect this and it appears he didn't even have a 'just-in-case' speech prepared, so it's feasible he might miss those he would have otherwise mentioned.
I'll never understand what the hell was don Johnson's problem. How could he hate doing Miami Vice? That show made him the guy he is today. He is famous and won all of the awards becuz of Miami Vice. So if I was Don Johnson I would want to remake Miami Vice and bring it back to TV again.
Remember that James Bond is extremely British, something that Don Johnson is the opposite of in all his roles. Not to say that he couldn't act the part, but it is difficult to see him play that role after seeing him play such an "American" character (Sonny Crockett) for lack of a better word.
@MrBillyLaw Having said that Pierce Brosnan isn't British either so I was a bit confused when he got the role.. so I guess if he can then DJ can too!! lol
Shitty of him not to thank his co star. I mean idk what goes on in the backstage maybe they didnt get along. In any case not thanking him is a choice,.its impossible to forget your partner
And to think that Philip Michael Thomas went out and had the gold chains made up. Emmy Golden Globe Oscar Tony E G.O.T...i still think it's funny because he got way too big for his bridges, his head was swollen, and he thought his acting was the best
@@AirwolfArchive Don is a great actor. Philip couldn't act to save his life. As Miami Vice went into it's 4 year, his acting improved when he grew the beard. After about a year, Don and Phil were on a morning talk show, the host, David Hartman, asked about the fans and the enormous success of the show and that's when Philip said he had gold chains made up that had the word EGOT.. David asked what it stood for? PMT said " Emmy, Golden Globe,,Oscar,Tony". He said he/ they expected to win all of the above awards. Guess he was wrong.lol. There was tension on the set between these two. Don was use to the game, but never like that of Miami Vice. Philip was jealous because Don got more fan mail, was more recognizable, and was more in demand on the talk show circuit. So somewhere along the line, Phillip decided that he was just as good of an actor as Don, if not better. Word got around about Phillip going behind his back either talking about Don or starting lies. Out of all of the talk shows they were on, I've only seen them on good morning america.
