RIP Don LaFontaine. He was a real gentleman, professional and helped us VO actors in his studio giving us the tools to be better at our craft. Thank you for the memories. There will never be another Don LaFontaine. He was a gift from God.
True. TV spots have them on occasion, but usually all they do is recount what the critics are saying about the movie. I think maybe Don is the last announcer (so far) to achieve any kind of household name status. But yes, it was truly the end of an era when he passed.
Don was a cool guy… I use to communicate with him via email when I was in high school and he would always reply and even kind enough to give some voice over tips. He was a inspiration. R.I.P Don 🙌🏾🙏🏾
R.I.P Don LaFontaine. I remember seeing this commercial when I was in elementary school and I thought for a brief moment, when he started talking the "In a world..." I thought I was going to watch a movie trailer after it until he said "Both of our cars were totally underwater" figuring out that he was talking in this commercial. I still remember that day.
I got to meet Don at a Voice Over conference in 2007. He was very nice, and very gracious considering the line of people waiting to meet him. RIP, Don...you are missed greatly.
This is by far my top favorite commercial! Mr. Lafontaine has got quite a voice. I'm an impressionist myself and I can talk like a number of characters and celebrities. I can even sound like Mr. Lafontaine.
I knew him best for all the promos he did for Cartoon Network's Cartoon Theater. He really made all those promos epic and classy, just as Peter Cullen did for Toonami.
This guy was such a legend! He has pretty much left his name on everything. Movie trailers, logos, TV spots and ads (including that "This is DVD" one on VHS where they were promoting DVD's at the time) and countless other things. Some of these things I am just discovering that he narrated them and I did't even know! He pretty much narrated everything back in the day. Now the world isn't the same without him. he was on my plane years ago my dad and i def recognized him from the geico commercial, he was so nice, helped a lady with her luggage at baggage claim.. can't believe he is gone...

He did commercials and trailers that will be remembered for years to come from Metal Gear Solid to Geico even Simpsons....he will be missed there will never be a voice like there was yours

Man, I love that guy. He has the best voice. If I could do that voice, I would use it all the time. Just waiting in line at the grocery store, bored, and break it out: "One man, on a mission...his goal: to buy groceries. But all is not easy...first he must pass the trials of Vons...long lines...slow cashiers...all are tests of his courage. In 2007, I am...THE GROCER!" Awesome.

i wish i could talk like that guy. he has such a golden/magical voice. i think there was a family guy where neil takes out his retainer and when he talks he sounded like don lafontaine. RIP mr lafontaine. we miss you.
Great Company and a GREATER VOICE to represent them. I miss Don LaFontaine. he was GREAT in movie trailers and on Spike TV during their crazy awards shoes!!!!
Don LaFontaine had an amazing life, and while I'm sad he's gone, I can't say it's tragic because he did more living then most people do with the time he had. Somebody should make a movie about him. Call it "In a World."
LOL! I love it, especially the dramatic music they put behind the announcer's dialogue. Another cool Geico commercial, I'll never use them as my insurance company, but I like the commercials!
The crew behind these commercials for Geico are ingenious. The humor and tact in these commercials are just spot on and intelligent. LOL! Seriously, that the guy from the fukin' movie trailers. SWIIIZEEEETTT!!!!!
