American children are separated from their parents when they are incarcerated. Why should it be any different for illegal aliens?

It's not just illegal aliens coming to the border though it is also asylum seekers, people fleeing the threat of torture, violence or death. Asylum seekers are following an internationally recognised and ratified procedure and are to be treated with repect and dignity. They come from countries run by the vilest regimes and have often suffered far more than most of us in the western world will ever experience.

Mithril Hunt--Some are asylum seekers. Most are trying to enter the country illegally. Either way, if you are in the custody of our legal system you are subject to the same laws as American citizens. Americans are separated from their children when they are in the custody of the legal system. Why should it be any different for illegal aliens or for asylum seekers?

Fleur Bandito-I understand your response, what I'm suggesting is for Asylum Seekers is, as I believe they constitute a special case, something a little more humanitarian perhaps self contained family units in a secured area while their case is processed. That way way both sides of the argument are satisfied, the Asylum seekers are not free to come and go as they wish while still being offered a degree of compassion which would serve as a good example to other nations.

Mithril Hunt--Well I'm not an attorney or a border agent so I don't know what procedures they follow when a family enters the country and requests asylum. My guess is that there is an application process and an investigation of some kind. If thousands of families show up at the border then we don't really know who has a legitimate case for asylum and who is just trying to get into the country illegally.

I haven't actually thoroughly researched tariffs, but I know that the bulk of the cost of the Chinese product tariffs are just being payed by people that are ordering the product, not keeping the price the same and charging the Chinese companies. Like, if the price for a kilogram of steel was $100, but a tariff was put on it at 10%, that price is paid by the person that is ordering the $100 for the steel, and therefore has to pay $110 in total, with that $10 going to the American government. It's like paying customs for a package, you pay the government for the thing you want at a premium. At least, that is what I thought happened, which in that case tariffs put in place by Trump charge the citizens and companies of the USA, not China, which would mean your average product buyer for anything there is a tariff on is paying for the wall when they buy that product as the price increase is passed on to the consumer, not paid by Mexico.
