My friends have often asked me "Why do you like Spartacus so much? Why grail him to 120?" and my response has always been "Because he's just a human. Not a demigod or myth, just a man who rebelled." I will always love the servants that embody the strength of humanity and Don Quixote is no exception.

I think there's one small matter to be addressed: As he ascends, Quixote's armor loses its luster, however the horse girl's outfit becomes more fantastical.
@PkNero13
@PkNero13 Год назад
I think that is a reference to the Sanchofication of Don Quixote and the Quixotefication of Sancho (in Spanish, this is called "Sanchificación de Don Quijote" and "Quijotización de Sancho"). While time passes in the story, Don Quixote becomes more aware of his actions, and sometimes, he is somewhat rational (I mean, as rational as a man charging against a windmill could be). However, Sancho starts to be more "heroic." I'm not saying he becomes crazy like Don Quixote, but he does like this ideal of justice and knights because it is better than the reality he lives. And if I remember correctly, you can spot some hints of this in a chapter of the story where Sancho is like "let's go kick their asses" (or something, I don't remember it well) and Don Quixote is rational enough to say no because it isn't the correct thing to do. I remember back in literature class, the teacher explained this phenomenon, and I'm really happy that they reflected this in their ascensions because the influence between people is something very human and I think Cervantes did an amazing job reflecting one of humanity's most human things that is that we are like we are because of our environment: - Start of the story (1st ascension): Don Quixote is living his dreams, and Sancho Panza is a sane peasant. - End of the story (3rd ascension): Don Quixote, or as he is called in reality, Alonso Quijano accepts his reality of an old man who just wanted to be as shining as the protagonists of those fantasy books, and Sancho who enjoyed those adventure times when he was the squire of the "el ingenioso hidalgo" Don Quixote of La Mancha. If someone read the whole thingy, thank you so much, and sorry if something was explained incorrectly, English is not my native language, and I don't usually have the opportunity to put it into practice.

I always did see Quixotes ending as him regretting his adventure, but the idea of him actually accepting it is so much better

Being summoned from the Throne of Heroes was probably Don Quixote's absolute dream. At the end of the original novel, he died a broken man, his world view shattered. Imagine next waking up and finding himself before a person who basically says "Hey buddy, you gotta help us save humanity". Of course, he only imagined himself fighting a mere giant. I wonder what thoughts would go through his head as he takes on something like, oh, ORT?

It depends on what mode he's in, considering what Klidge said here about him being able to switch between delusional and rational at will as a Servant. Rational Don Quixote: "I... may have bitten off more than I can chew here..." Delusional Don Quixote: "LET'S FUCKING GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Don Quixote is a hero, because he makes people happy with his actions be it directly or indirectly. He brought smiles to people faces when they were in sadness. And even in his death bed, his friends said that he needs to not give up on his dreams or ideal, because the world is build on the backs of dreamers that want to see a better tomorrow. It also possible that don Quixote was actually sane the whole time, but wanted to bring people smiles whenever his story is told and took the form of a madman to not be prosecuted for his actions and to inspire the next generation. That the way I think about the story.

I like it that you don't just summon Don, you summon the entire book. Don himself is straight forward he is short and stubby because that's the metaphorical representation that got manifested, "a tiny madman that took on reality" you can see it in his ascensions as well, the grim truth of the fantastical fading away to reality, but his most powerful form is the acceptance of reality, And for Sancho, she is everyone else in the story, and how she presents herself as the 'positive' characters of the story, the support of Sancho, his steed, his maid and the thing I love in the final ascension is the embodiment of Don's fantastic delusion, Dulcinea is in stark contrast against Don's realization of reality. And the one's that don't physically manifest are the 'negative' characters, the Giant named reality and Cervantes (presumably because of Sancho wanting to write a story of Don and claiming it'd be the best seller [I laughed my ass of when I read that] and that she claims that this wasn't what is supposed to happen to Don, assuming that is Cervantes is talking it'd be a call out to the fact he is supposed to be a parody and not a romanticized story) are hidden from Don himself because they chose Rocinante, Sancho, and Dulcinea to support him and not reality is because this fantasy Don is in IS reality. And i love the contrast of Don being the romanticized version of the story while the hidden parts of Sancho is the nihilist version of the story

The FGO team... paid him amazing respect. He is a good Lancer from the gameplays I've seen, his Horse Waifu is a waifu, he is just adorable in design, he's a 4-stars, and honestly... I'm happy they went with this route. Guess Fate still has some surprises for us, heh? xd

At the encouragement of my italian priest teacher I started to read Don Quixote, it took me 3 months to read book one and 2. One of the best decisions of my life, I cried at the end when Cervantes killed him to prevent any bastardization. Yes he is basically a weeb kight wannabe and the novel does write him of him coming to his senses and regretting, but still despite the minor criminal acts he commits out of failure to comprehend reality he always strives to do what is right (his own right) and did SOME good. They say two wrongs dont make a right, and maybe its my personal bias but the things he did right can be counted by the fingers in one hand and the 99 wrongs he did vastly outnumber them, still nonetheless when you see someone go and strive for what they dream fail 99 times but still rise on the 100th it is incredibly human and joyous to root for this champion of (delusional) persistance he has every right to be a hero and he made it by sheer craziness and grit no super powers needed save maybe his guts skills for when life kicks you (literaly) you pick yourself up right away. T_T

I'd say Sancho has much more potential to be genuine hero. Unlike Don Quixote he is much saner but also eventually come to a admire his idealism. Hell, in his time as that village governor he did more good and proved to be a more competent force of justice than his lord. Even better, he did it by using his brains despite being an illiterate peasant.

my personal read of Don was both a deconstruction of knights and of society, as you said it broke the myths of knighthood as a childish fantasy but also i feel the only righteous person in the story is the one that's a madman and outside of society Also the waking up from the childish dream and facing reality hits me because when my spanish teacher was teaching us about the book she focused on teaching us that knights were anything but shining, literally teaching us how they had to piss their armors mid battle because what are you gonna do

I think I prefer osp's take on the story, where the story is a criticism of the chivalric stories at the time. While Don Quixote is having his delusions, he's causing harm to those around him, and more interesting stories are happening around him, like the whole deal with the 4 lovers.
@DuoSanguis
@DuoSanguis 2 года назад
Well, both takes are not mutually exclusive, OSP's take is about society's / The World's / the author's opinion of the Chivalric Ideal vs modern sensibilities, but Klidge's take is about a single man's/the protagonist's pursuit of a dream and the experiences gained throughout that pursuit. A single human is quintessentially selfish, and will pursue what they believe is their "best life", and Don Quixote did exactly that, even if he inconvenienced or even hurt many people along the way (but that's the nature pursuing an ideal, since everybody has their own version of that and they all can't be compatible.)
