I agree, I was a slip of a girl, and saw them both, live, on may occasions in the mid 70s, and I know they were both divine. They were at the time, and still are, my "etalon' of what Russian ballet is all about.
how wonderful, what a fantastic duo. An athletic man but so graceful and she is the perfect traditional ballerina. Lovely expressions and technically great but unlike a lot of modern day dancers who lose thier individuality for the sake of being too perfect she shines in everthing she does but seems so natural. wont see a pair like that again for along while.

I am not a dancer either but to me Vasiliev was simply the greatest. Look at those perfectly executed spins and leaps plus the artistry. Maximova was the perfect partner. Unforgettable!
I saw them in Nervi in the late 70ies and as a young ballerina I brought them flowers after their performance ......... I was impressed of course but I realize now they were more than special ... Their posture and technique and performing ...... pura poesia .... Ekaterina , Vladimir rimanete per sempre nel mio cuore
l miss him so much as dancer,impossible having same from others ,really miss the every year presence of katya and volodia at nervi ballet summer festival,people loved them,and volodia in particular,was so kind and humble,so generous with his public
Ottima la regia ideativa del coordinamento del collettivo danzante che esprime in toto l'esprit de joie della danza e la sua armonia con passi sulle punte in veloce eundo delle ballerine.ittimo quello che con un mio neologismo mi piace chiamare convolo aereo ed elanista della ballerina ottimamente indotto e tenuto dal partner. Ottimo impadronimento del proscenio direi imperativo a balzi falcati amplissimi da parte del ballerino ed astante e praesens impressione di facilita esecutiva d'acchito per tutti gli agenti in proscenio.Ottimo il senso del continuum dato alla pièce danzante dai protagonisti. Needless to say, they were exceptional dancers. Vasiliev and Maximova remain favorites through the years. I don't know if Vasiliev's art has ever been surpassed. Thanks for sharing.

@jgh37 can you please, please tell me what is the point to compare two ballerinas that are completely differents, that come from two very differents schools, and that belong to two different times?I find Fonteyn amazing , same as Katja, but I understand ballet, I love ballet...I am so tired, can´t really take this crap like yours no more.
