No arguments, Don Rickles is one of the greatest entertainers of our time. He is still going but unfortunately, nearly all of his contemporaries are dead. Long live Don Rickles!
Don Rickles is probably the funniest person ever! They don't make them like home. No one can ever take his place. I have always loved his humor and honesty. A LEGEND!!!
I swear, in 2019, I am bent over in TEARS! God bless you Don. Where ever you are. What a comedian this man was. He may have been the most underrated comedian of all time. No BS.
Those truly "were the days", I miss absolutely everthing about them and the people of then. Simple times, really good times. I didn't take things seriously and enjoyed my family and life!
Don had a lot of race humor in his comedy, but I have seen interviews with people that knew him, they said in reality, he didn’t have a racist bone in his body. Supposedly one of the sweetest guys ever.
Most if not all of the celebrities of color at the Roast table knew Don was spoofing with the faux "ethnic / racism" humor. Others like Carroll O'Connor and Mel Brooks similarity utilized the same kind of satirical humor as a demonstration of how stupid TRUE racial prejudice and bigotry really are, but modern viewers can't seem to wrap the idea around their heads and tend to mix parodies of racist humor with the genuine, bigotry-motivated racist humor.
You could tell that his humor was always done out of love, respect and most of all for fun!! America could learn a lot from people like him. Especially now. With all of the race division tRUMP the past president created.
@@michaelmillerski1071 To everyone he went after, it was an honor to get skewered by Don - it was a badge of honor signifying that you were someone worth skewering.
Man!--Don is ruthless in this one! RIP--Don broke the mold like so many from this the greatest generation of entertainers that ever was and will ever will be.
My family and I always watched these Roasts of Dean Martin's on tv, during the 1970's.I recall this one, as well as some of the others. We also never missed the Dean Martin show.I am 58, but I'm glad I got to see many TV shows of the 1960s-1970s when first run.TV ads were pretty good back then, too.Good, simple times!!
Don Rickles was the very best at what he did. No profanity, no vulgarity was needed to make everyone laugh. There will never be another like him. He was unique.
and Charlie Chaplin didn't have to talk to make people laugh, times change, Rickles and these comedians didn't swear because the censor would not let them, not because they didn't know any swear words, don't be so naive, you do not what your parents had to do so you would be born don't you?, what do you think they called it? Don Rickles was great but you can bet your life that when he was in clubs and some of the dives he worked as a young comedian the air was blue, he just could not transfer that to Television, now they can so they do.....but they pushed smoking on young Kids back then and they don't now, that was a lot more profane and vulgar to any thinking adult than a swear word or two, enjoy the show as I do, but don't try to imply that they were better just because they didn't use profanity, they were good because they were good, full stop!
@@georgemoore7186 You truly have no idea what you’re talking about, I was going to nightclubs before you were born, oh king of trolls. I saw Don Rickles in person as well as Jackie Mason. No profanity at all. They didn’t need it and never used it. So much for your expertise. You absolutely have no clue.
@@beachboys3326 yeah, Don Rickles looks like a Choir boy to me too, Idiot! by the way would you like to buy a bridge? be quick and I'll throw in a set of steak knives as well🤣🤣🤣
Time 4 Change I see this type of remark all the time on here, that they didn’t say any curse words. And let me qualify by saying I love Don Rickles in these roasts are my favorite of all roasts. If there’s a reason there was no crossing because they were on network TV back then and it wasn’t allowed. There was no cable. There are these type of roasts at that time with Don Rickles and others that were not televised and there was plenty of crossing and sexual jokes. There are a few of them on RU-vid. Believe me, if there was a cable type network years ago they would’ve been a lot more graphic and cursed quite a bit.
My dad loved all these guys. Redd foxx was one of his absolute favorites. Loved Don and these roasts were legendary. You absolutely knew you made it when they roasted you !!! Everyone invited was fair game for Don Rickles. This was always a good time. God bless them all
@@cedbigby1126 Since Norman Lear created both All In the Family AND Sanford and Son, I always thought it was a shame that Archie B and Fred S never crossed paths! Throw in George Jefferson and you've got a helluva bigot's battl royale! 😂
When men were men and women were women! They wore it well they were in the Depression and World War II life was different. I don't think they sweat things like we did later. Simpler times.
OMG! Thank you for posting....not only can you not do this anymore, younger generations will need some explaining....I had one of those days today, so I'm in the mood to explain what genius looked like back in the day....
All Don ever did was gut-punch everyone right in the funny-bone. Every time I watch these clips I end up crying with laughter. That hang-dog expression of being SO jaded with the world and everything in it, and the hard-left turns he would take on the very last syllables of paying his targets a sincere compliment. 🤣 He was a treasure to the world, and everyone who knew him says he was a great friend too. This is exactly what RU-vid is for.
AAAAHHH!!! WELL!! DONE! MR DONALD RICKLES THE MOST FUNNIEST MAN ON OUR PLANET!!!! I HAVE SEEN MOST OF HIS SHOW'S & THE LATE DEAN MARTINS "ROASTS" TELEVISED IN THE 1970'S. I CRIES&CRIED!! THE TEAR'S FLOWED LIKE CASACADING WATERFALL!!!! IT WAS HILIARIOUS ALL THE WAY!!!! WHAT A TONIC INDEED!! THANKS FOR THE POSTING. FROM(U.K.).
Thank you for posting this. I'm 58 and see the TRUE reality of all of this. Our "BUTT HURT" society would not allow such antics. Yet making fun of this type was really making fun. Not meant to be mean. Not meant to be racial. Not anything but poking fun. This sort of stuff will go to the grave with me as it has so much before me.
i know what you mean...i am half Mexican half white and grew up in a real loud family always gambling over nickles with cards and talkin shit to one another while jimi and led zep and sabbath played in the background, the adults were all stoned with beers in their hands and we all had a good time while we talked shit about the team that was beat ing our beloved raiders and Sacramento kings. i am about ti be 30 and i will never raise my children to be a pack of mutated ungrateful yuppie ass pussies!!!
Nowthisispodracing, JT Gerlach is already "over it". Agreed, lame to bash Murphy and Carlin as vulgar. But, yeah, basically appears these cats did not have a PC stick up their ass. No telling if any were fans, but noted that at least a couple of them mercifully died before the Star Wars prequels. Yep, times do change.
Someone has probably said this already, but just in case NOT: Don Rickles was a candidate for the role of Archie Bunker! And so was Mickey Rooney. But everyone agrees that Carroll O'Connor was born for the part. 😊
My three favorite famous people. Don rickles and Carroll O'Connor and Redd Foxx. Love all three. Sadly all gone Miss them all rest in peace 🙏 all of them
The real surprise here is Don Rickles never wrote his jokes. It was all straight out of his mind. Professional standups will tell you this is genius level shit just to be able to riff like that so effortlessly.
God please bless them all in heaven , i love them all so much i grew up into a man watching them , like i tell the young now , if you were not born at least in the early 60s you missed it all
Its just like we use to play all the jokes and laughter which never stopped god bless us for the fun and laughter thats lasts til the end of time enjoy yourself!!!!
The scene in Kelly's Hero's with Carroll O'Conner as the General listening to Clint Eastwood's force busting through the German lines and the General says "We got the game on here." and the signal fading out because the radioman says "were getting interference from the IONISPHERES." The General says, "Get them IONISPHERES outa here..." Then hearing the name "Grave Digger" he says "Ya hear that!" "Get me my uniform!" Best & funniest scene of the movie...
About Red Foxx - I was in the Army in 1966 at Fort Rucker, Alabama. We were in the day room watching TV when Red Foxx came on the air and gave his "Benediction for the KKK." ALL OF US WERE ON THE FLOOR LAUGHING!!!! I hope there's a recording of it out there today.
I want to see someone like Rickles do this kind of comedy today. No vulgarity worse than say, "damn," or, "crap," and no fear of being seen as, "bigoted." Clean and courageous.
His ability to joke without seeming bigoted relied absolutely on his peers' ability to take a joke and laugh at themselves. You'll never find that today. Everyone's egos have outgrown their brains.
Rickles ripped on everyone and they ripped on him. At the conclusion he genuinely & warmly told them how he felt and of his love and admiration for them.
Hey Genius. The show was on prime time television. During a time when *the big three TV networks ruled the airwaves!* Cable TV, was barely a medium when this program was being made.
Class? He just insults people. And the "jokes" are really weak. Sorry to be politically incorrect about him, but he wasn't a good comedian. His whole career was reliant on people laughing along because others laughed along too. Very little of the laughter was based on humour. It's the laugh track effect.
To all you Don Rickles fans...he was in one of the last Andy Griffith Show black and white episodes-it was great! Classic Rickles! He was also in one episode of the Munsters. Absolutely brilliant stuff! Thank you, Don...
Please dont forget Dean Martin he is just as funny as Don but older but funnier you guys gave people how to laugh at themselfs we only have a little longer to enjoy this love and laughter may we laugh until the end of time!!!! Katherine Dean and Don you are a one man show!!! Laughter is always good!!!
I've mentioned this many times before (and so have others), but wouldn't it have been something if there'd been an "All in the Family/Sanford and Son" crossover?! Would've redefined the term "laugh riot", for damn sure! I could just picture Archie locking horns with Fred Sanford, Aunt Esther, and Rollo.
So much class, love, respect and genuine laughter on these shows! Nothing will EVER come close these days, especially with the so called "roasts" of today! Profanity and vulgarity = comedy 🤢😤💩
