Just found your channel. Excellent video. And great lesson! “You have to be willing to destroy it to make it a better painting.” Great advice. Keep making videos please.
Thanks, Bruce. A lot of useful information as usual. I have many unfinished plein air pieces as well as some studio pieces I thought were finished, but need more work.
Great video! Thanks for those tips too in painting the details. If you are looking into brushes, have you tried a dagger brush? I loved the one I had. It was from Rosemary & Co. Unfortunately, I lost it in a field while Plein Air painting. Note...never take more than 2 or 3 brushes when doing Plein Air. I had too many brushes with me and never realized the dagger went missing until the next day. I have really enjoyed following your videos over the years! Take care and keep on painting as we all enjoy it!
What is the purpose of a dagger brush ? Sorry If I don t express myself well in english. I mean, what is the difference with a flat or a bright ? For what use ? Thanks in advance. And love your tutorials and artwork as always. (from a french guy living in China)
The daggers are useful for some crisp edges and can be manipulated to create random shapes , such as in foliage. The flats are longer than brights and can create some nice distinct strokes. The brights can create similar distinct strokes but, being stiffer short hairs, are not as flexible to use over previous wet paint.
