Our #DontBeElectricked campaign aims to raise awareness of the risks associated with buying everyday electrical products from third-party sellers through online marketplaces.
We investigated electrical goods sold on five leading online marketplaces including Amazon Marketplace, eBay, Facebook Marketplace, AliExpress and Wish. The investigation revealed that these products expose consumers to the risk of both severe electric shock and fire.
UK laws do not require online marketplaces to check the safety of products sold through their sites in the same way as conventional retailers. We are calling on the Government to change this and stop the sale of dangerous electricals online.
