Do you have a step or two to get into your house? Have you tried going up and down the step with a rollator, walker, or wheelchair and still felt unsteady and afraid of falling?
A sturdy portable ramp that goes over the step or steps may help reduce the risk of falling and ease the fear of falling.
Steps and curbs can be very scary and dangerous. It's always best to have someone helping you when navigating steps, even of the smallest height.

What about a home that has multiple steps? Most homes don't have this small step. Many have 4 steps or even more. What should we do in this situation? Also, what would be the cost of a portable ramp and where would one store this when they are not at home?

Great questions. The ramps come in varying sizes. The company that makes the one in the video has ramps up to 10 ft and also some other options as far as mini elevator type lifts. Many people keep the ramps in their cars as they fold up easily.

Vevor has rubber thresholds. The rubber is easy step and rugged. Looking at this vid, to me the biggest thing is to put a handrail . The same company has fan shaped grip bar that attaches to the doorframe. Or, there are others with handrails. Find out what’s needed, experiment. Using a 4 X 4 post, find a surface base to hold the post. Use super cheap rebar instead of expensive cable connector. Can run vertically or …horizontally, random, think dry spaghetti. We need to think these things through. Home builders have not. We have to correct their omissions. I have two concrete steps to the wood porch. I want to raise the soil level to the porch. Needs a vapor barrier , needs water run off. But, with raised soil level, no paint or stain forever more, no icy stairs. No sore knees while carrying heavy loads. Tax favored expense as handicapped modification. Love these vids. Makes you think. Helpful-Show me the ratio as a drawing…. 1 : 12. We are real far behind. Let’s catch up for safety. With this….build a wooden ramp off to the left as egress from the door. Little landscape adjustment….but no face forward threat. The building is at your side. What will the neighbors think? They’ll think….where can I get one.

@yourPTguy I have two skinny ramps that I bought for my husband. It stretches out like he's talking about. Ruedamann 10'L x 8.9" W Aluminum Wheelchair Ramp It was $400 when we bought it; it's now $300. It goes from short to long, and it snaps into place really easily. It needs to be much longer than you're aware. If you can afford a single wheelchair ramp, that is better. But we found this to work nicely. If you've got too far a rise, you'll need something that turns.

Hmmm has a PT or other therapist ever been out to see the height and offer in person suggestions? I know there are multiple varying heights of the ramps and the company that makes the one that I have in the video, also makes actual lifts which can help too. There are also some key safe ways to navigate stairs without the use of ramps which I'm trying to work on for upcoming videos, so be on the look out there. 😊

What can you use for a ĥigh threshold?
@yourPTguy
@yourPTguy Год назад
How high is the threshold? ADA has codes for specific heights and length requirements. The manufacturer that makes the ramp in the video (along with others, many found on Amazon.com and even some local durable medical equipment shops), have a variety of lengths and types of ramps and wedges that can help a great deal.

Measure from landing to the top. If you can't go straight out, you'll need something that turns.
