Question are you going to be doing a rundown of the set? because I'm going to a pre-release tomorrow and I want to know everything I can about the set and like how many colors I should run any help will be appreciated be my second time going to a pre-release the first time was for Bloomburrow. How many colors should I run for this set for the pre-release?
MTG literally fosters gambling addictions in people. I know MULTIPLE people who took their weekly lottery spending money and just started buying Magic cards instead to get the same rush. It's sick behavior!
I love the fact that Cynical Loner is quite literally the “lone” survivor creature in the set that’s not in 1 or both of Selesnya colors. That being said, besides the new enchantments in the set, the Survivor cards as a whole look fun. I’m trying to make a tapped matters deck that’s a mix of Mounts, Survivors, Vehicles, a bit of convoke, and any other cards that can/want tapped stuff with Annie Flash as the commander.
10:09 You made a minor mistake I expect to see fairly often with Meathook Massacre 2: Directors Cut. The things that come back return with a finality counter, meaning they won't give an aristocrat trigger when they die a second time because they'll be exiled instead.
My biggest issue with cynical loner is that it has to be not only tapped but ALSO alive for it to be effective, which I think on a 3/1 body doesn’t really make it a staple for every, if not even most black graveyard decks to be honest
I kept an eye on the survival mechanic since the beginning of spoiler season for my Greasefang deck thanks to the vehicles. Cynical Loner’s payoff is more than I ever could’ve hoped for in the deck, an absolute slam dunk!
In context of Duskmorne Play Booster Boxes selling for $130-$140 American, they are selling for a minimum of $210 Canadian, which is a 60% mark up, far beyond the currency conversion rate.
Definitely overpriced I will give you that but youre wrong on the conversion which may spread misinformation. 135 USD to Canadian is 183.61. So, the markup from 183.61 CAD to 210 CAD is a little under 13%. I get that this stuff is overpriced af but if we are going to criticize we have to be correct so we dont spread misinfo since a 13% markup is def diff from a 60% markup,
@@WackNoirYou're correct though I'd say something else to note is that at the end of the day it feels horrible as a Canadian. Roughly half of the states have higher wages (or equal) while the money is worth more. That 60% feels really bad because at the end of the day we feel like such similar countries yet our costs are insane while not really getting more money at a baseline.
140*1.6 = 224. I guess it's over 60% more numerically in $CAD than American, but counterpoint, it will decrease once the hype passes since this isn't MH3
I'm sure it's already been mentioned, but Abhorrent Oculus only requires that you cast it. It becomes even better value if you can cheat it into play. There's a lot of cheap reanimation that can bring this directly from the graveyard to the battlefield. It's also a great option to be manifested itself, since being turned face up also isn't a cast, so doesn't require you to exile anything.
Oh yeah, that card is nuts. It'll maybe sneak into my Danny Pink deck. It sometimes hits nutsy proliferate gamestates where it gets out of control. Attacks, blocks OR target of a spell, so even if someone removes it it gets a hit off.
@@lesternomo6578 Why do you say that? PE was banned in EDH because it could go into any deck and enabled degenerate combos sometimes by accident. Marvin does the same thing. Marvin is in some ways worse, because it can create some unusual situations.
I've really been enjoying the creative energy precon from modern horizons so the enchantment creatures that come back as enchantments are super exciting.
used your deck tech and spruced it up with some unused cards of my own after taking some decks apart! Just waiting for the balloon man to be released. Thanks for the inspiration Prof!!
9:13 The biggest benefit here is that it's an enchantment. Crucible and Conduit of Worlds both die to Vandal Blast and the like, Ramunap and Greenwarden die to regular wraths, and Perennial Behemoth dies to bothj. having a non creature, non artifact CoW is new and the redundancy of having these different types is huge.
Enduring Courage will more than likely see play in EDH in Attack triggers decks, like Etali. Getting those attack triggers the same turn you play Etali is a big deal.
I'm really surprised Hedge Shredder did not make this list. Almost as surprised as Hedge Shredder not having the "this ability can only trigger once each turn" on it. Self milling and getting all lands that you mill onto the battlefield is an absolutely insane ability. The fact that it has a built in mill effect is just icing on the cake, but anyone that has surveil or dredge in their decks can really abuse this mechanic since it puts all lands that are milled, not just one per mill effect. Hedge Shredder will provide a ton of value even if you don't explicitly build around this card, but put it in a self mill landfall deck and it can quickly become broken.
The card I'm most excited about for the 99 of red decks is Untimely Malfunction. Just a nice, cheap piece of flexible interaction. The first mode is generally useful, the third mode has its niche if needed, but that second mode? Being able to redirect a single target spell or ability for only 1R has so much potential to disrupt your opponents' plans or protect your own...
I hope professor has a spooky themed shuffle up and play for duskmourn. Halloween is a month off but I can't wait to have a werewolves, zombies, vampires and demon themed commander game with friends
I really love the Mirror Room // Fractured Realm Room card. I love playing Gyruda, either as companion or commander, and a clone + extra panharmonican seems really sweet.
Prof I think you've overlooked "Nowhere to run". In my opinion it is easily the #1 Auto include in the set for every black commander deck. Let's say an opponent resolves Narset and hits a Mithril Coat, attaching it to Narset. She is now a 3/2 Indestructible and Hexproof which prior to this the only other spell that could remove her in this scenario was Council's Judgement naming Narset as it's not a Target. But Nowhere to run drops, gets rid of her Hexproof and gives her -3/-3 killing her on the spot for just 2 mana at instant speed. It also then sticks around on the board removing hexproof and ward for all of your opponents creatures while yours still get to benefit from them.
Don't forget to combine Meathook Massacre 2 with Grave Pact, a 1BBB enchantment that says "Whenever a creature you control dies, each other player sacrifices a creature." This creates a no-win scenario for your opponents where if they sacrifice any non-token creature instead of losing life you can just sacrifice the token to any sacrifice outlet and have MM2 trigger again. Note that getting both in play with a non-zero number of creatures will immediately brand you as the Archenemy and probably force the entire table to either blow up both of your enchantments or just eliminate you from the game outright.
Enduring Tenacity, Curiosity, and innocence look like they could be really nasty in a Zur, Eternal Schemer deck. They can basically get recycled over and over for the cheap cost of 1 and a white.
I'm very excited to make some kind of Nekusar style draw deck with Winter, Misanthropic Guide. Adding in more stuff that cares about discard like Tergrid and Waste Not.
for the eye i just wanna add that manifest dread is a green card that can be cast for 1G. if the eye activates twice then you've already gotten your value back!
Cynical loner is pretty cool. Notice how they made her attack strong for attacking, but easily killed for the opponents. I also see that they avoided shirei including her by the stats....
Built brago a long time ago and never really touched him because the deck was very typical run of the mill blink strategy. But now with abhorrent oculus, and more importantly the haunted windbreaker with the other versions that came out in duskmourn and Markov maner, I put together a cute deck that is all about getting random cards from my deck out face down and turning them face up with brago's ability. Maybe not as powerful, but it definitely looks fun
the copy of the black enchantment is going straight into my vampire deck as redundancy for sure, and also the card that lets you tutor when is tapped. i need it for my altair deck
I am absolutely adding Enduring Courage to my Rin and Seri deck its one of the best dogs even if its just an ok glimmer. I havent seen anybody talk about Convert to Slime or Giggling Skitterspike but those are 2 of the Duskmourn cards that are really on my radar.
I'm looking forward to the unblockable creature that mills your opponent for 10 when it connects. I love mill decks and will definitely find a home for that card.
6:14 do we know that Glimmer is a creature type? It's possible that Glimmer is an enchantment type and thus not something Changelings would have, and I don't remember any official word yet, until we see the new CR list of types I don't think we'll know for sure. Also the glimmers thing makes sense for Cynical Loner based on the lore of what glimmers are.
If they make Glimmers an enchantment type and not a creature type, that's another L for whomever is in charge of all the new rulings, as they're supposed to be the opposite of nightmares, which are a creature type.
It's surprising Cynical Loner is just an uncommon with an effect like that. It's nice though because there should be plenty of copies floating around so it won't be so expensive
Hi there, Tolarian Community College community (that's a mouthful)! I've just recently gotten back into mtg, and put together a simple-ish deck, refined twice, but with limited cards to pull from. I was hoping to get a bit of feedback on it! It's not meant to be ultra-competitive, but I'm wondering if my cards are synergizing well enough, or some things may need more/less duplicates! Please and thank you!
Getting back into Mtg is awkward at first, good luck! You will have to decide a format to play, as 'using your collection' Mtg doesn't really exist like it did back in the day. Essentially, your deck is probably not legal in most formats and the formats it might be legal in are meta calls and will probably end you before you cast your 3rd spell. Almost everyone plays Commander these days, with Modern and Standard being the 2 most popular 60card formats.
I will be doing what I always do with any new set in any TCG that I play a lot. I will be buying one booster box(of play boosters in the case of MTG). Whatever I get in that box, awesome. For anything else it'll be singles.
Honestly i think the murderous mimic could make for a fun colorless myr commander. Obivously urtet is the go to for myrs but i think you could build something fun and interesting going full colorless with this guy.
Im glad im not the only that finds it weird that the set with Ghouls, Ghost, and Eldritch horrors is lacking the actual horror creature types. Valgagoth especially feels like it should have been classified as a Elder Horror instead of Elder Demon.
