Recently picked up the 2tb version for my first build because it was the only 2tb PCIe 4.0 option Microcenter had in stock. Glad to see it wasn't a bad choice.
"DON'T BUY FAST SSDs FOR GAMING" I wouldn't want a slow ssd but as well if im using the P3, Plus or P5 or plus for a boot drive as well the small speed difference can be felt. I have a samsung 960 EVO thats 500GB and recently upgraded to a Crucial P3 Plus 2TB which is faster and more space. For me its a win/win situation
A few issues with using a P3/P3 Plus apart from it being dramless is the QLC NAND. Things like Windows updates and any software program updates will really eat into the longevity and lifespan of that SSD and QLC already has a lower endurance rating compared to TLC, MLC and all the other types of NAND chips. As a secondary drive is fine though. Throw things like your steam library on it and it will be just fine as games dont see updates as often as your OS or programs may do.
Pretty awesome video as always. SSD reviews always seemed a little tricky in my opinion but I think you did a pretty awesome job with it. Also seeing the MSI sponsor spot made me strangely happy, nice one dude. Anyway, hope you keeping well Cheers
Thanks man! I don't have a ton of experience working with these drives, we never even really did much with them even at UFD Tech so I'm still trying to work out how best to review them 😅 Super thankful that the channel's working with sponsors now, it's already helping out a lot (this video was filmed with a brand new mic and audio recorder that would've taken me a looooong time to save up for).
Got the Crucial (1TB version) earlier today on discount for only £100 and it should be arriving tomorrow. I’ve heard good things and at the moment all I have is a HDD so it takes a long time to get into games such as Rust and EFT (sometimes expanding to 10 or so minutes) which can really implement as a factor to a poor experience. Hopefully it all goes well. I will try to remember to edit this message once I find out how it is. Edit: I don't really know what to say other than it's amazing! I'm able to load into my favorite games significantly faster and it saves so much time! Where it may usually take around 10 minutes on my old hard drive, it now takes less than 2!
Nice! If you're going from a hard drive to this, then you're absolutely going to notice a huge difference. Please do give us an update on how you're liking it.
I have a 500 GB version P5 Plus. Planning to put it in an Acer Aspire 5, i-5. That will make the primary NVME, the secondary SATA drive and the RAM all by Crucial. Plus, it's a Gen 4 drive in a Gen 3 slot. We will see how that goes. Cheers!
Would love to, but I can only work with the drives I already have right now. Only differences will be the speed and temperatures though, and even then the results will be super close for the most part.
Good drive. Not super fast, but more than fast enough for gaming and everything else. Can also get much more storage space for the same price compared to the P5 or P5 Plus.
Which m.2 ssd will get hotter, the boot drive or the one with games/documents? Like which one should be on the top slot with the cooler and which on the back. Both gen4 probably
Whichever one's going to be working harder. During normal use, your boot drive won't be doing much at all until you transfer files etc. The game drive will probably get the hottest.
Yip, but as you'll see from various sources, the chances of that happening are extremely slim, and in a controlled environment and situation almost impossible. Modern hardware is built with safeguards in place for exactly this reason.
With prices dropping it's even better there were good ssd's under 200€ (the 2tb versions) now I'm waiting again for one under 200€ a few weeks ago they sold the sn850 2tb for 180€ + heatsink + 20€ steam wallet.. I missed it >< Now I wait for them to go on sale again. Crucial P5 Plus, Firecuda 530, sn850 are my top choices so far, but I guess I will take any ssd that has decent speed just for future proofing. Pcie 5.0 is too much future for me haha Great Video :)
brother i bought this p5 plus today. its working and showing up fine. i even installed its driver from the websites but it's not showing up in device manager detail that its storage control is by micron 😮😮 its driver installation went absolutely fine but still isnt showing up rather showing the standard Microsoft driver 😮😮😮. please help what is going on with me
Depends what you mean by "for gaming", as in as a game storage drive, it's adequate. As a system drive for a gaming PC please don't, with QLC memory write latencies tend to be horrible and ultimate write speed is only like on the order of 100MB/s. This can make the computer effectively unusable under memory pessure, when swap occurs, assuming gaming isn't the only thing you use it for. Web browser with more than a handful tabs can fill all your RAM and then it's bye bye time while on a better drive you wouldn't notice any problem.
this is the best one you can buy because of the price.... prices were as low as $119.99 USD. If you can, why not make a video benchmarking this one the ps5 vs others?
It's great for sure, especially when it goes on sale for that low. I'd love to, but I don't have a PS5 - WAY too expensive for me to buy here in South Africa.
@@TheTechTank hey bro can you please tell me that should I consider getting a Samsung's 880Pro or crucial P5 Plus m.2 nvme gen 4 SSD as I'm going with crucial's mx500 sata III SSD for my work/windows thingy hehe And BTW! I'm video editor and a one of those wanna be 3D artist guy also I play alot of games like GTA and forza horizon,NFS that's why I don't want any kind of slow ass HDDs🤧 I'm supposing a budget of 150$ for my nvme gaming SSD I swear those loading screens are a big pain in the ass for me it decreases my productivity soo much
@@TheTechTank BTW I'm from India, Delhi I can't give you my address lol but I'll tell what soon I'm going to build a heckin fast ass pc nearly after the release of RTX 4000 series as 3070 will probably get cheaper following the release of next gen GPUs and honestly It will be my own first ever pc build I'm so much freaking excited!
I recently checked out the P3 Plus, actually. Even ran an ad for it in one of my recent videos. It's very good for the price, you probably won't even notice a difference between it and the P5 while gaming or normal use.
Hey just watched your vid about the Intel i7 chip and I was look about the only gpu I can find in my area and that pretty expensive ... ASUS VGA PH-RTX3060-12G-V2 LHR 12GB GDDR6 192-bit I found it on your shop as well Could you tell me if you would recommend it or what you think about it?
I haven't tested the ASUS Phoenix 3060 yet, but cards like that with just 1 fan usually run pretty hot. It shouldn't be an issue if you have a good case with high airflow, but if you don't then you might have to just run the card at higher fan speed to keep it cool. The 3060 is a great GPU, and if this is the only version you can find in your budget then I'd go for it.
@@TheTechTank Thanks .I have b660 gaming x ddr4 motherboard and disc is with heatsink there...But i read that Is very hot...Dont know what to do with this. But thank you for answer..
I'd personally get a Gen 3 drive with more capacity over a Gen 4 drive with faster speeds right now. Most games still don't benefit much at all from faster speeds, and even in games that do, the difference is pretty negligible IMO. I think it's still going to be a while before most new games will see real performance bumps from speedy SSDs.
@@TheTechTank I believe there is Definitly a diffrence from game to game my RAM usage Dropped Around %10 percent when i upgraded my hard drive based System to a Samsung 850 Evo 500 GB SSD no offence Mate for Example 6200 MB RAM usage with ME Shadow Of Mordor to just 4.5 GB usage
I need to buy new ssd and i will buy p5 plus instead of p2. Not because of the speed.. just TBW is twice bigger ;p And i need less sata discs - because of this annoying cable menagment in my case.
@@TheTechTank It is better in smarks, but in every day usage for me.. no diference even against sata ssd. Like i wrote, just bigger warranty + no cables. But i still keep 2 sata ssd and HDD, as a backup. Im not using PC for compilations, making videos or something like that. Just simple programs and games.
@@Ulthion Weird. I definitely notice a big difference in day-to-day use going from SATA to Gen 3 and Gen 4, though with the latter two it's super minor.
@@TheTechTank But you notice difference in what exactly? I didnt check with timer example loading times in games, but ive seen test, that if there is diference its around 1-2 seconds. Maybe it is like that. My personal feelings.. i dont see any diference.
@@Ulthion Game launch times etc. are pretty much identical, I'll give you that. I notice it most in general responsiveness and things in certain apps loading faster. It's like gaming with a high refresh rate monitor for a while and then going back to 60 FPS, lol.
Depends if you want more speed or a lower price. P5 Plus is much faster, but the EVO is cheaper. Unless you're constantly transferring files, you won't really notice the speed difference.
You won't notice a difference either way. The biggest difference for gaming is going from a hard drive to an SSD. Once you're already using an SSD the speed doesn't make a noticeable difference. Maybe a few seconds faster loading times at best.
@@TheTechTank i live in Sweden and it used to be around 200$ here now it was a discount so i Cooped it, but Im thinking on buying another M.2 NVME SSD more. Worth it?
The WD_BLACK SN770 is on sale at WD for $60 right now. That's only $5 more than the than the Crucial P5 Plus, I bought two along with two WD_BLACK SN580x drives ($92 if you buy two).
@@TheTechTank Yeah, it was great pricing which is why I bought so many drives. Unfortunately the "Buy 2 SSDs get up to 25% Off" sale ended on 03 Mar 23. The SN770 1TB is still $60 on WD (there was no discount for buying two on that one). WD does still have good deals but most are exactly what you'll get on Amazon and Amazon has same/next day shipping while WD takes about four to five days.
Unfortunately even if that sale was still running it wouldn't apply to me here in SA 😭 There's like a 25-40% price increase on all PC parts here, lol, and even when parts do go on sale it's like max 10% off. Feelsbadman.
