Spot on in regards re-inkers. I bought a whole set from a well known company when I first started stamping only to find out that they don’t have re-inkers and being told when asking on the company forum that some people have had them for ages and they haven’t needed a refill. That doesn’t help me at all because where you live and the weather as well as usage all affect how quickly pads will dry out or they may be dry when you first get them. I will now only buy ink pads and refills. I find that saves money in the long term- for me at any rate. I also have boxes of the little cubes and must get them out more often! I do not buy green dye inks. I kind of fell in to a formula by experimenting with different inks. For ink to paper or background stamping I use generic felt ink pads that I reink with Brea Reese or office-based inks that blend, bleed, or move on the paper. I use Archival inks with clear stamps or stamps with solid areas in the design. Memento inks (Cocoa, Tuxedo) are my go-to for open lined image stamps, edging, or "dirtying up" a piece. My pigment ink pads are minis, reinked regularly using gouache as a base. "All colors in the line" is not my thing, my ink pads fit into a small box and are basic bright colors, black and brown. 😌
That is so true!! When I first started I bought a lot more than I should of!!!!! Now I know that most companies are the same just different names for the color!!!
I did not know this! Like what, may I ask? Like I like the way Tim Holtz' distress Oxide inks but they are very expensive for me because I'm disabled and on a fixed income and it's about to get worse, my husband told me tonight he was moving out. 😭. So I need a cheaper equivalent. Thank you.
I taught at a local scrap store 10 years ago and have a complete set of Ranger Adirondack ink pads and all the reinkers still. They have never let me down. Newer inks have been tempting. I do have some Distress and Oxides along with archival. For everyday, I keep going back to the Adirondacks. I never paid full price, many were free, best craft deal ever for me until the pads break down or the drinkers somehow go bad. Thanks for sharing, Justine.
As always you really put together videos that are so valuable! As crafty people we do tend to have a hugh appetite for various mediums/products...so any way to be more savvy with our purchases is (in my opinion) a HUGH WIN.

I love crafting but man can it be costly, and for me, this is my hobby not my job - YET HAHAHA I will keep dreaming 😆 but I have to keep reminding myself when it's check out time, "it's a hobby, Crystal!" I don't need full sets or eveylittlething although I wish I could have it 😅

A subscription I have suggested an ink I can't find. Also how do I color match to cardstock? P.S. I like coordinating ink and cardstock. Less thinking.
Great video - went to check out your blog listed here but it says account canceled. Is there another place on your website you have the ink guide? I have just under 30 Distress Oxides at the moment & 36 mini distress inks- I'm looking for a dye ink that stamps and blends well but I'm beginning to think they either blend well or stamp well. Anyhow - just wanted to let you know the link to the guide doesn't work anymore. :D

@@justinehovey you know, I got SO caught up in the new releases and in the full sets and in watching my favorite people, and in "all the things" that in the last year I've made MAYBE 10 cards. How sad is that? 2021 is going to be brighter craft wise, because of you.
Thank you for information concerning inks. I never really thought about it, but the fact that the majority of ink pads, regardless of the company are all made by the same manufacturer. makes sense. I have noticed that Catherine Pooler & Distress Oxides are different & I like both. So I guess it comes down to what accessories you need that match your colors & price. I guess Gina K has the most matching items, envelopes, paper, ? I wonder who has the best price? Anyone have any thoughts on that?
Most inks, not all are made by the same manufacturer. Yes, Distress Oxide and CP are very different and I like having both as well. I also believe that Gina and the Distress lines have the most coordinating product. Best price, I'm not too sure, I find most ink pads to be similar in price.
Thank you Justine. Have been buying stampin up for ages and have been fairly happy with them. But who else makes them? Sometimes I’m looking for a discontinued color. Or I have a very old color I just love and do not have a reinker. Maybe I can find it thru another source.
I bought the Altenew inks & I hate them! There is no consistency between colors except all of the light colors are very dry & almost impossible to use. They got my $$ from me once but never again.
Dear Justine, what i always wonder, why is it that none of the foreign vloggers use the versa magic. A soft chalk effect ink. Very good to blend with a soft feeling which also reacts on water. Do you know why?

Thanks, Justine! I will admit that I fell into the full set syndrome for the new Concord & 9th release. I’ve always wanted ink and matching card stock. For future releases I will buy the cardstock first and then see if any of my Catherine Pooler inks match.
Good question. Maybe someone here can suggest something better. I know the tim Holtz one doesn’t have an edge on two sides so you can stamp other types of things but I don’t think they are sold in the USA anymore. I haven’t used one because I’ve seen such mixed reviews so I can’t say for certain. You might be better off with an old school Fiskars stamp press for something like that. I used to use that before the Misti came out.
Denise O Hi Denise!🤗 At Ranger, we stand by our inks and in the off chance that you have any issues upon arrival please contact Ranger customer service. I have found that some inks can be too juicy and give a blurry image... we have a system that ensures our inks have the perfect amount for clear and crisp stamped images. I have used my set of SHc inks everyday for months without having to re-ink them yet. They are a new formulation that I created with the chemist that we have at Ranger. I hope you love them as much as I do and so many fellow crafters!💙
Denise O I can vouch for the Simon Hurley inks being wonderful and crisp with great color options. My friends also have had very good results with them so give them a try, you should be very happy! 😋
