Ok, I see a lot of comments saying if you're a gamer + Creator (meaning editing gameplay) there's nothing wrong with the X3D CPU. Absolutely, and also nothing wrong with any CPU if that's the one you have. The point is if you're a gamer first and that's the priority, then the X3D CPUs are the best ones for you. And I'd argue that the gameplay you edit get's accelerated on the GPU regardless (h.264/265). But if you're a creator first and think getting the X3D CPU is the best option for you, then that's what I was trying to explain in this video. The X3D CPU will perform slower than the non 3D cache CPU in pretty much every creator benchmark and I believe you would be better off getting a CPU that's better for your creator Workflow that can also game, perhaps not as good as the X3D CPU,. Here's a question then, wouldn't the non 3D CPU be better gaming+creator CPU if it's actually better for Content Creation but worse for gaming? I guess whatever you prioritise more! As a creator I'd lean towards the non 3D CPU. you?
@Purified1k

Nope, if you do extensive gaming in your life. I'd always suggest x3d, its just had that good of an impact on my gaming experience. Honestly, the performance difference is negligible for most creators, especially gaming creators when it comes to those type of work loads. Unless, if its that real small amount of people who really need that extra push in encoding or work loads. Which tends to be very specific. So at the end of the day, I'm personally only choosing the x3d.

The guy is right if you do encodes with videos with those exotic specs. And yes, if you're craaazy about video encoding quality - like if you want to store and handle such video files for a long time. In the sense that the AMD chip does not have the hardware decoder for that exotic video format, so whatever processing and viewing is done, the AMD will theoretically have a harder time handling it. I haven't tested that myself, but it wouldn't be a fair comparison due to that tailored hardware decoder in the igpu from Intel. AMD's video decoding skills still have to play catch-up with Intel's iGPU and Nvidia's decoder - so that doesn't help either. I think the video published here is done with research and it's a piece of advice which you are free to take or ignore.

Your own benchmarks are showing a 2-5% performance difference between X3D and non x3D chips and what YOU are failing to take into account is the absolutely massive difference in power consumption. While the 7950x is rated at 170w, it's not uncommon to see it topping 250w or more, while the x3D with it's 2-5% performance deficit does not exceed 150w. There are plenty of meaningful criticisms to be had against the multi CCX X3D chips. The memory training issues, memory stability issues, core scheduling issues....but you've zeroed in on the least significant while simultaneously ignoring the biggest motivating factor..... Power consumption is enough of a reason to NEVER buy an intel CPU....yet you're trying to take shots at a gaming channel for not testing a feature that almost no one in their audience cares about. Sure, it's real neat that intel can scrub h.265 10 bit video....but, who do you think that's for? Do you really think that people watching talking head video's on youtube care about color grading? Market saturation of displays that can actually showcase the difference is growing....but not exactly significant, it's certainly nothing the vast majority of gamers care about, and those that do are spending multiple thousands on displays, and GPU's....for gaming. Not to watch some random youtuber try to generate clout by missing the point.

Fully agree, -80% (often more like in gaming) power consumption but only 4-10% performance loss (and a win in performance in most games), This is the best 'be good at everything' cpu (gaming, efficiency and workloads).
@axel-11
@axel-11 2 месяца назад
"Power consumption is enough of a reason to NEVER buy an intel CPU" - that is not exactly correct. I'm considering to get Intel CPU because in idle it consumes 5 times less than AMDs desktop CPUs, same goes for small loads when it's mostly idling. My loads when I'm not rendering or gaming are low, mostly idling - right now I'm typing this text and CPU load is less than 5%. And also you can undervolt Intel 14600K. Actually I'd say undervolting means giving a proper voltage, because I think they are overvolted from factory for marketing reasons, and that is why most people think Intel CPUs are inefficient heaters. Also you can slightly limit it's power limits to get much greater score per watt. Most of benchmarks tests CPUs that are pushed to the limit when by giving more wattage they try to gain such a minor perf improvements (35% higher power consumption, 4% higher score, yay) - it almost doesn't make sense, while I more interested in pushing it to optimal efficiency. Or you can even get something that seems like a more efficient CPU like 14600 non-K version, or even 14600T with twice lower TDP but with almost same performance (seems like 6% difference).
@Daniel-hj5jt
@Daniel-hj5jt 2 месяца назад
@@axel-11 My 7800x3d, undervolted tops out at 40w while gaming, cinebench will top fluctuate between 65-70w, as i'm typing this my power consumption is at 15w. The 14600k, pulls 180w during cinebench....even if you tuned the power down by 35%....that would still put it at 115w, 45-50w more than the x3d. Efficiency isn't just about idle draw, it doesn't matter if you're pulling 5-10w less when you aren't doing anything, if you're pulling 50-100w more anytime you are. Yes board manufactures have gotten into the habit of pumping up the voltage so as to hit the max boost...but in intel's case, the high end parts actually require that power draw, and even when things can be tuned to slightly less egregious consumption, Intel has consistently had a much, much, much higher overall power consumption than AMD.

Due to a special being run, I picked up a 14700k for only about $5 USD more than the 13700k, so it was one of those rare cases where the 14th gen was actually better value than the 13th gen (plus the 4 extra E cores and all). Its a shame that Intel didn't include AV1 encoding on their iGPUs for the 14th gen, as that would have really added some value to the 14th gen for a lot of users beyond just performance.

The acceleration of game code is not directly related to the X3D cache, but to many years of bias in the code, the lack of SIMD optimization on AMD FPU and the use of slow ALUs in the game code. CPUs with X3D have a lower maximum frequency, but by optimizing the structure/order of current data, they will be able to outperform their faster counterparts without a 3D cache ;).

Depending on what GPU you've got it may be a wise move to replace it. X3D CPU's improve games performance, but are still limited to what the GPU is capable off. If, for instance, you were to replace the R5 5600 with a R7 5800X3D you should probably not see much improvement in Fortnight. Sure it may start faster and might have less noticeable delays, but the total frames per second won't be fantastic. That 1660 Ti will be holding you back. For games the GPU is very much decisive for the capability. You will never see better performance than what the GPU is capable of. Me personally have an older GPU, a RTX2070 Super, and an older processor, a Intel Core i7-6700. At the time a friend upgraded to a RTX2070 on his machine powered by a Intel i9-9900. His processor was almost twice the speed of mine, but his GPU was slightly slower as it was standard speed while mine had a slight factory overclock. Now in the game we were playing at the time, which I think was The Division 2, my machine actually benched one frame faster than my friends. The reported GPU utilization was above 100%, which we blamed on some kind of bug in the games benchmark function. The thing is that on both machines the GPU was said to max out, but on his machine the game started faster, loaded games faster, loaded new areas faster and had less dropouts of frames. On his machine it was super smooth, while on mine there were incidents where framerates fell drastically for a part of a second when new data was loaded. Now that's a long write for little data, but what I want to say is that the top games FPS performance is decided by the GPU and the CPU. For me the RTX2070 Super is about what my machine can drive. I could install a 4090 and games wouldn't run much faster. But for my friend it made sense to update the 2070 to a 30 range GPU a year or two down. Now if you want the max performance from games a X3D CPU isn't a bad choice, but without the GPU to match you won't get full performance from it.

The issue with your argument on that last one is its focus. If you are willing to lose a little performance for content creation so that you can get more performance while gaming, then the cpu's make sense. If what matters to you is better content creation performance, then the cpu's do not make sense. Your conclusion clearly shows which side you are focused on. It's not a bad thing, but that is a big asterisk that needs to be placed on that one. It may or may not make sense depending on which is more important to you, gaming or content creation.

Yep Man...this marketing habit of creating confusion and fog between products in the same brand is really annoying and basically it tends to make money on tons of wrong purchases from customers. But IMHO it is counterproductive because at the end it slows down the right purchases... so... WHY?!? That said... it is correct for music creation - where the lowest latency and the maximum single core power are mandatory - to buy the most powerful latest CPU even for that 5~7% of power? And in that case... is correct to buy the KS version?

Very nice video, but you got one thing wrong: The issue with the X3D isn't the X3D, but severe issues with the still rather immature Zen 4. The Ryzen 9 7950X3D is the most energy efficient CPU out there, because it thermo throttles down to 50W TDP just to survive, and the weirdness doesn't end there. Essentially, the only desktop Zen 4 above 65W TDP that makes sense, is the R7 7800X3D, and even this CPUs only is a beast in some 3D games but essentially nothing else. The best thing you can do with desktop Zen 4 is to skip it in favor of Zen 5 - the Ryzen 8000 series, for instance, apparently is very promising again.

AMD's X3D CPUs are useful when you find a program (game or other) that knows how to manage the additional L3 cache memory. In the cases where you use games that don't know what to do with such amounts of extra cache, the X3D has no advantage at all. It's often even worse, because the clock speeds are actually quite lower on those CPUs. This is why I have chosen to buy a 7900X instead.

Irrelevant, because I never scrub. I started on an FX-8350, and scrubbing was out of the question.. in fact, sometimes just playing the video without rendering it out if you had too many resolution changes and transitions in a section... was out of the question. So I just adapted and built my editing style without scrubbing. I don't think I would know how to scrub if you asked me to. Instead, I set a small region I want to examine, put my play cursor inside that loop, and press play and watch, the loop play over and over, while I sample through different transition options to find the one I like best. The 7950x does that just fine. Watching the igpu usage and even the nvidia gpu usage in Windows Taskbar, what is surprising is how little mp4 encoded and decode hardware logic is used when rendering out a video... barely a blip.... but instead, the massive 3D parrallel processors... where your GPU really has the muscle... is used instead. That's a good thing actually. You only have 1,2,3 max encoders and decoders, and even with just 1 it's barely utilized... therefore not a bottleneck... but you have thousands of tiny 3D gpu math processors that are loaded up with work.

As a non content creator and just a gamer i am very happy with my Intel I7-14700KF. It has no igpu and i don't use quick sinck for anything. This leaves me with higher clockspeeds overal due to less heat and power from the igpu. Five years ago I made the mistake of buying an i5-9600F. I had a spare GPU card so I thought I was so smart to buy a CPU without an iGPU. I saved almost $30! Turns out that it wasn't so smart. Two years ago I built a new 13th generation PC and used some of the the old parts to make a PC that would only run web and Office applications. I didn't want to use my GPU card for this. So I ended up getting a used i3 CPU with an iGPU. The i5-9600F CPU now sits in a drawer with other unneeded parts. Another factor in favor of getting a CPU with an iGPU is even if you don't do any video editing the iGPU used in conjunction with a video compression utility such a HandBrake makes it worth the price. I have a Plex server now and I usually recompress the "extras" that come with many DVD and Blu-Ray movies. Compressing the files with the iGPU option enabled is 5 -10 times FASTER than compressing using only the CPU!

Adobe products query the OS about available devices, then it's up to Adobe to schedule different tasks in your video pipelines to the best combination/sequence possible. The only thing I've found is that if you upgrade the CPU on an existing system and keep the OS, the Adobe suite can get confused. Probably a Windows registry/setting fault. New CPU: uninstall then reinstall the Adobe software. EDIT: you probably should reinstall the Adobe Suite if you change graphics card too... I don't know.

Long term intel perso. Who just upgraded to the 7950x3d. I did some video encoding back in the day. I'm gonna push back just a bit with your understanding of the 7950x3d. The 7950x3d is a multipurpose cpu. It's a gaming and productivity cpu. It's for people who game and create. And looking at various b3nchmarks for h264/h265 and AV1 and at higher presets the 7950x3d is ever so slightly slower than the 14900k. However it also kicks the 14900k's ass in gaming. All ryzen 7000 cpus come with igpus. They also have quickness video which is similar tech to quicksync. Is it as good? Don't know. Need to see. But now your confusion on the 7950x vs the 7950x3d. Yes the 7950x3d does a bit worse in productivity to the 7950x. However the 7950x3d demolishes the 7950x in gaming. So this was just poor understanding on your part.
