First of all, I would like to announce that I shall start playing this song when people ask me what kind of music I like, and if they display any signs of dislike/run away, I shall never address them again. Second, I keep trying to find the hidden meaning... I feel like my dog when he’s trying to dig a hole into the chair for like three minutes straight and not making any progress because it’s a fucking chair, you can’t dig into a chair and you won’t find anything anyways. That’s me trying to find out what this song means, and its fever dream vibes are making me doubt this isn’t actually a fever dream I’m in right now... well, anyways, we be they, they be he, egg toast tea to anyone who actually read this ;)

Edit: on repeated listening, I'm not sure the "They be me" line is correct - it could be "They be we". Opinions? Edit 2: changed "morning view" to "morning dew" and "They be me" to "They be we".

_AHEM-_ *Okay, so I **_know_** this song is just meant to be fun, random nonsense but here's a theory taking everything out of 'context' anyway:* This song is all about people figuring out their sexuality and gender identity, and how they face unnecessary hate from people. I'll explain the lyrics as best as I can, as I go along (any lyrics repeated later on in the song will have the same meaning I've already mentioned for them, so I won't bore you by going over them twice): *"Did don’t do* *Don’t you too* *Won’t what we"* The first few lines are a parent mocking the way their child talks about their gender, and scolding them for it. The 'did, don't, do' part refers to the child being indecisive and not being able to figure out who they are. The *'don't you too'* comes from the parent- they've heard about the recent awareness of gender identity (especially on social media like TikTok, where the topic is unfortunately oftentimes used just for popularity and attention) and they don't want their child to part of it, as if they're saying "not you too, don't you start that gender/sexuality nonsense with me" (which is an unfortunate reality with many parents, from experience). The *'won't what we'* is the parent then mocking the child; the whimsical style that the song has both adds to feeling of this mockery, but also takes away from it, as if it's someone singing about their preferred gender and not having a care in the world what other people think about it (hence why it sounds so happy and fun). *"He be me* *I be they* *They be we"* This is a group of people talking about themselves, and how they're finally comfortable with their gender. Someone (perhaps a transphobic) is trying to deny them their right to be happy with changing their gender, so they're battling against it with confidence. It's like they're saying: 'No. I _am_ a _he_ , not a _she_ .' 'And I _am_ nonbinary, you can't change that'. They're all sticking together and helping each other, even when people try to drag them down, which is what the last line is saying. *"He she they* *You be you* *We be free"* This is someone saying that it's okay to feel different, or to want to change things about yourself. They're saying it's valid to just 'be you' and that once you do, you can be free. *"Birds eye view* *The morning dew* *It’s true"* This part is someone (either a normal person, or maybe imagine a powerful being who knows many things about the universe, and what's correct or not) saying that all of this is perfectly clear and easy to see, that there should be no fuss or hate from people over it. They're saying that everyone is valid in what they choose, that there's no 'right or wrong' gender or sexuality for someone to be, it's up to the person and that should be it. The 'morning dew' part could be referring to how the awareness of gender and sexuality is only a 'recent' thing- it's seen as new and refreshing, comparing to the 'old, stale' expectations many people used to have. *"What be where* *Where be what* *Take me there"* This is possibly someone (who has experienced a lot of hate, perhaps homophobia or biphobia) asking if there is a place where people will accept them, and asking if 'they can go there'. This could be a metaphor of sorts, with the 'place' talked about in the song simply being a reference to the LGBTQ+ community or even another world where people are kind and accepting of everyone, or it could be referring to an actual place- like a really cool group of friends who meet up together and discuss how they feel, perhaps even like a support group for those who've been abused because of their preference/gender. *"Egg toast tea* *We be we* *What makes you hungry"* These lines are talking about sexuality specifically, and people's preference. Replace *'egg, toast, tea'* with, for example, 'girls, non-binaries, boys', and it starts to make sense. The *'we be we'* is saying that everyone is different, and that it's okay to like different types of people. The 'what makes you hungry' part is asking what people's preference is, if they have one, in a light-hearted way. *"What say you* *What say we* *Fill my cup till empty"* This links to the last few lyrics. It's two(?) people, perhaps friends, venturing out and finding out what their preferences are. The 'fill my cup till empty' line is as if they're trying everything they can until they've exhausted all their options/possible preferences and they're settled on who/what they want. Other things to notice (remember to take these with a pinch of salt; I'm pretty sure this song is just a fun little tune so now I'm adding meaning to it, of course, some people aren't going to understand my point and will disagree with me; I'm just trying to put it into my perspective of how I see this): - The whimsical nature of the song, and how it sounds like mockery (the *'hee ho hee'* in the beginning sounds kind of like laughter; the 'howls' that Cosmo makes in the beginning are similar to the ones that people do when they're jeering at someone or calling them insane; the recurring 'cuckoo' noises during the *'birds-eye view, the morning dew, it's true'* lines as if someone's calling that person crazy for believing in and supporting people for being LGBTQ+ (because it's often seen as 'just a phase', 'just a fad' or 'not real' by some people). On the opposite side, this could also be seen as someone taking that mockery and just embracing it, and having fun. They're laughing back at the people who laughed at them, jeering back at the doubters who called them weird or crazy, and taking the negative things people said about them and making them into positives (e.g. if someone called them weird for liking something, they embrace it and be as creative and expressive as they can without trying to hide their true self anymore) - The way the music seems a lot more 'toned down' when it gets to the first *'egg toast tea'* line, as if it's being more serious. It's like someone has finally decided to 'sit down' and figure out/question who they are and their preference (the echo(?) of the melody notes during that line represents other people having the same idea/question; take note that it's the only instrument we hear and not other voices echoing that line yet- it's as if people want to say the same thing but are too scared to say something, so they stay anonymous about it). In the next line, it goes from just Flora singing to Cosmo joining in, as if more people are coming together to work everything out. Think about when the kids join in too- children are often seen as innocent and 'non-judgemental' (young kids wouldn't care about labels, they would only care about the _person_ themselves and their personality- so they wouldn't care if someone was a girl or if they were non-binary, or if they were biromantic or asexual, it doesn't mean anything to them) so having them here possibly shows that it shouldn't matter what other people think, as if, if a _kid_ doesn't take up a problem with it, why should everyone else? Alright, so... one-and-a-half-possibly-longer hours of thinking, listening to this on repeat, and deep thinking, later, and I think that's all I can say about this (though it was still a wonderful time spent because music, especially this kind of music, is never a bore). I don't think the song was meant to have a proper meaning anyway, so hopefully, this was at least a little interesting to read. I'd love to hear what other people think of the song though, and what it's other possible meanings, if any, could be! Also, Cosmo and Flora, I'm really excited to see what other songs (I already love this and Did) you'll do together! Keep being awesome, y'all, and remember peeps, you are all valid, no matter what
