in fect at most Busstops in Denmark the Bikes need to hold back from the ppl thats need to get in and out of the Bus .. but the places where the ppl on the bus need to hold back from the bikes are hard to spot !
@mikeyb2932
@mikeyb2932 3 года назад
@@istrysii For the most part they are really not hard to spot. The simple thing is if you step down from the bus directly onto the bicycle lane, then the people on bicycles need to stop for you. Too many people do not know that as soon as they step down on a small pavement or similar, before going onto the bicycle lane, then the people getting off or on the bus have to let the people on bicycles go first. Hope that clears it up for those who did not know. 😃

Being late in Denmark is not something that happens often, but I've never had an issue of running late, when I just contacted the other party, and informed of it (except for shops, they usually close at the minute :-) ) But it is a sign of disrespect to be late in Denmark. Once I had a job interview, I had to be there at 10, a drive for 3½ hours, I didn't want to be late, so I went very early, spent ½ an hour on a nearby parkinglot, to not show up that much early :-D I got the job, so the time was well invested.

Do not ride a bicycle on a sidewalk. It is an absolute no go. If you ride a bicycle in a city and come to an intersection and there is a truck or bus, make sure that the driver has seen you. Make eye contact in the mirror or in the window. Every year there are cyclists who are killed when a truck / bus has to turn right at a traffic light. It can be difficult for the driver to spot the bike list.

It is so embarrasing to be late to a meeting. You dont get any good greetings. You get: "Now that X has decided to come we can finally begin this meeting". Coming late to a party is not a great deal unless you are the one supposed to come with beer and wine or food ;)

Yeah at formal or work settings always be exactly on time, not too early and definitely not late. Altough if you just call in good time and say that you're most people will understand, but if you do it a lot or don't call that gives a very bad impression. With casual settings it's definitely not as big of a deal but can still be annoying depending on what you're late to, like something time limited.
@MTMF.london
@MTMF.london 2 года назад
Isn't that kind of rude though? I mean, there are some people who are frequently late and they rightly should get a bollocking or be shamed about it. But for a majority of people, when they are late it is because there was some unexpected thing that happened to them? Shouldn't we give people the benefit of doubt rather than giving them stick?

the thing about looking into windows, while its true that we dont do that, but if you just quickly look to the right and happen to look inside, then its not a big deal, its more that you shouldnt be staring into houses, thats the disrespectful part, but if you happen to see someone in their window idk cooking, then people dont mind as long as its not full on staring, at least thats what i've experienced. If you live in a neighborhood and see someone you kinda know, then dont be afraid to wave if you want, they usually wave back if they see you.

I wasn't aware that anyone would ever consider "looking into someone's home" so that one was a shocker, but definitely true XD. I use "De" if I speak with elders, especially in the bus/train or I meet somebody in a shop or such. I suppose that's a bit old fashioned, but those of us from 90s-00s still had a somewhat "old"-fashioned" upbringing. At least, if I compare with those from the 10s where a whole lot of things started changing noticeably.

There is a place, where all Danes give greetings, when they meet, especially when they meet foreigners. At the sea, sailing a sailboat😊
@KoldingDenmark
@KoldingDenmark 3 года назад
The practical reason why you greet people whilst sailing is to signal "I have seen you". I have been sailing for many years and the worst is always an oncoming boat, where you do not get a respons. It is important, because there are specific rules as to who must give way for whom. On many chartered boats you may only expect one person to be certified to sail, while the rest of the people on board have no idea. It causes critical situations, if the certified person is not on deck.

@BenjaminVestergaard
@BenjaminVestergaard 3 года назад
The formal part really depends. If you have customer contact you wear according to the product you represent. If you try to get investors, you do not want to look like you have no money. But if you sell cars or TVs you don't want to look like you make crazy amounts of money off them, but still representable. In non-customer jobs,,, just look okay and do your job, try not to smell or be loud, it disturbs your colleagues.

I think the "looking inside people's houses" needs a caveate, like it's fine if your walking past and someone i standing on the other side of the window and you happen to get eye contact, like that's fine noone will yell at you for that, but don't goggle or stare or whatever inside a strangers house, i think that would be weird in any country lol Also J-walking is no longer as illegal as it was some years ago, basically the distance was shortened, the laws before was that you were allowed to j-walk if you were more than 200m (or something) from a crossing, so you've always been allowed to j-walk, it's just not allowed if there's a pedestrian crossing in sight. I believe it was in conjunction with COP15 it was reduced to 50m, so now you can likewise J-walk legally even if there's a crossing in sight, so if you're midway inbetween to crossings, you're allowed to just cross the street, although the cars obviously have the right of way in any case where you're j-walking

@@AFrenchWomanLivingInDenmark Well, if you say so but I really don’t believe that you “forgot to put the toy away”. To me the whole scene looked like a studio setup, carefully arranged, neat and clean for the video. The “mess”? If you really feel that setting comes anywhere close to at mess, I should probably be ashamed, because my time with kids in my home must then have looked like a true chaos in your eyes ;) Regarding obeying the rules… We Danes are kind of buried in rules and regulations - and they’ve used the Covid situation to burden us with even more rules to a point where it’s almost impossible to live if you want to follow them all. Sometimes it feels like a “China Light” situation, and I’ve got the impression that the tendency is that more and more people just break a lot of the rules. “Not looking into peoples houses?”. Now, I’m born in Denmark and have been living my whole life here, and I wasn’t aware that such a rule existed? I mean, of course you don’t go up to other peoples houses or apartments, put your hand on the glass to get a better look and stare into their homes, but if people don’t want others to see into their home through the windows, then just draw the fricking curtains to hide the interior. I am also pretty sure that there are some kinds of “activities” you can’t do inside your own home for open curtains due to the risk of offending other people.

It's quite easy to get the traffic rules straight, just regard every traficant on bicycle or legs as "the softer traficants" and those who are motorised to be "the hardest traficants". Logic tells us the softer part is the one in traffic that needs attention, and that is actually the law of the land mostly. There are of course certain circumstances, that are bound to appear were the rules might be unclear, but as a rule of thumb, be careful with those who are less protected, and otherwise be mindful of the road signs. It's not decorative or something to ignore.. Lastly this.. if you are unfortunate to get a fine, you don't have to pay the whole amount in one go, you can spread the payment over several years if that's the case.

There are a lot of good tips on how to solve problems with the language from beginner to advanced level of language learning. It turns out that the traveler only needs to know a few dialogues and you can easily travel around the world! Re biking: It would be helpful to see you outdoors on your bike, say with a helmet-mounted GoPro. A Danish friend told me that bikers there are all hell-bent for leather and have little tolerance for those who aren't.
@BenjaminVestergaard
@BenjaminVestergaard 3 года назад
Never heard of anyone actually getting caught jaywalking, but yea I'd not do it myself on purpose. Signals when biking is certainly most important in the middle of CPH, but what has annoyed me the most is how people above the age of 10 riding their bike on the sidewalk and in the opposite direction in relation to the side of the road. If it's dark and you have your lights on, it's confusing the cars, in all other cases you're very annoying to the pedestrians. The thing about looking into people's home is not unwritten. If I remember correctly it's even in the law about invading the peace of privacy (privatlivets fred) and peeking or eavesdropping is actually not legal. The police, of course, have exceptions in case they need to do so to do their job (if you don't answer the door, they try to see if you're passed out on the floor, if they believe that you're hiding evidence, they'll probably just kick in the door, if the crime is bad enough... Also if you are getting kicked out of the apartment, they have to be there)... So basically the only ones allowed to look inside your home without your permission is the police. I do believe that there's a casual exception to this. What you see inside from public space is allowed, but you're not allowed to tell what you see to anyone. This even cover people's gardens, so if you have a nudist neighbor, and they walk around the garden, you can't tell or record it. Unless they seem to intentionally try to disturb the public. And in such case it'd only be the police you should tell. Anyway, yes, we do take privacy almost as serious as the Germans. What happens in your home is your own business, unless it puts people in danger. Seems like I wrote another essay, sorry.

@@rasmusbonde9280 yes, isn't it 50m away from a zebra, you're allowed to cross at your own risk? Then it's not seen as jaywalking anymore, but if I knew that there'd be a zebra within 100m I'd probably choose that on a busy road. But it's legal, so watch out (both pedestrians and drivers).

@roxy9984
@roxy9984 2 года назад
Hi, I just came across your channel. I see in your video, that you are signing 'stop' with your right hand. This is incorrect, and could potentially still land you a fine, as it is by law not a real sign of stop. Alot of bikers incorrectly sign stop with their right hand, simply because they are right handed, so they do everything with their right hand. However, signaling "stop" should at all times be done with your left hand, as traffic is always right-driven, so the other bikeriders and cars will always be on your left hand side, and therefore your left hand is the only hand visible to them. Signaling stop with right hand, will only be seen by the pedestrians on the sidewalk, as your body will be blocking the view of your stop-signing to the traffic around you, to whom you were meant to let know that you will be stopping, for your own and their safety.

I would disagree about some parts of orderly. Driving while drunk in rural areas is not uncommon at all, jaywalking in general is very tolerated(maybe depends on the location?) and common. There are a few more of the laws and regulations that are definitely not followed. One of which, for students - paying for the radio licence. Many refuse to pay and declare they dont even have a phone, just to get out of paying it. Remember in more student-filled areas, they would even have facebook groups where they write if someone is comming to check, so that nobody opens the doors. Peeing on the street, littering etc also is part daily life(mostly on weekends). Things like weed - illegal - but very tolerated by both people and police. Generally, besides driving behind more drunk people than I would like, I would say that common sense is what people follow. Try not to bother/inconvienence others and then rest is up to you within reason. EDIT: but as a foreigner, before you have lived a good few years in this society, better follow the rules and you will be safe.

They deal with it by sitting quietly behind the curtain and shout: "BUH!" causing the tourists to knock their head against the window frame, when they pull their head back.

My street has only houses on the left as well as on the right. If I don't look at the houses, I will just be walking straight which will look so so odd and not able to enjoy the scenery which happens to include the houses that blend in nicely with the trees in between. Also I will get a stiff neck too if I'm unable to exercise my neck. The houses are literally staring into your face :-) Sorry Denmark, my health is more important than this rule of not looking.

As she said, feel ever so free to look around you as you're passing by. Many people does a lot of work making their front yard look amazing, and I'm actually pretty sure they'd even be proud if you stop to take a picture of some of their flowers... Just don't aim the camera at the windows, or stand there staring trying to figure out what furniture they have inside. If you're curious about that, it's actually more accepted if you go ring the doorbell and ask. Most often people have nothing to hide towards the street windows anyway, but it feels more like an invation if you just stand there and stare.

@@KoldingDenmark I am pretty sure it's not illegal unless you're actually trying to offend anyone... Of course don't be a wanker in the window and smile back when people spot you... That's illegal. Walking around the home, not actively trying to catch anyone's attention is perfectly legal. But with the big windows that are popular here, your neighbors may get the wrong impression if you do nude yoga right in front of the window. You could get a, hopefully friendly, message from your neighbor, and in that case I'd personally respect their wish. If they go straight to the police with it, it's certainly a neighbor dispute that at least needs to be talked through.

Can't stress rule #1 enough. It's easy to get some solid ass momentum on a bike and you need to know how to operate the bike and what you're supposed to do as a cyclist. It's just like with cars. Don't use one if you don't know what you're doing because you'll endanger yourself and others. However, our police officers are very nice. Lots of slaps on the wrist and very few actual fines and punishments if you're well behaved. Be polite, don't look mad, answer their questions, respect them and own up to it if you've messed up. It's just their job and you most likely knew what you were doing. If not, tell them and they'll be chill most of the time
