As someone who writes as a hobby (but would like to do it professionally), I have always always ALWAYS valued this advice. If I’m not writing for myself, I literally give myself the ick, bc it feels so forced and unnatural and just…wrong.

I agree! I think for somepeople it's more fun to play the numbers than the character, but I think a lot of people neglect to remember this is a completely valid way to play this game!

I agree! I’ve played in 2 groups and in the one group we didn’t do any of the character traits other than the basic stuff like alignment. And the other group the dm had us roll to decide what traits we got and I enjoyed that a lot more because it adds a whole new element that you have to think about in every situation and I think it’s more fun

I've got a rogue at my table. Their second LOWEST stat is DEX. They have a -1 Dex mod. The character is so broken.

Tbh I wouldn't even blame him if he allowed her to simply use her wisdom instead of intelligence. As narratively make since while it doesn't break the balance anyhow. Plus makes her managing spells easier as she doesn't gotta keep track of which spells from which class she used.

i know what you mean. recently ive run a campaign with my friends that i encouraged them to play unique subclasses, builds and spec into fun stats, not just the best ones. almost all of them have at least proficiency in performance. theyre pirates. sociopathic murderers. but whoo boy do they know how to manipulate, inspire, and PERFORM BABY! its the most fun campaign ive ever been a part of by far

@@KeiranTrick i couldnt agree more. theyve taken it so damn far. a player joined playing a bard and the only reason she joined the party was because she witnessed them kill the previous captain, and then they kept her alive because they found shes a renowned performer who is accepted by the Armada (tyrant naval force), so they get to steal from the armada directly now in their own home. why? no beneficial reason, they just like the thrill. as well as embarrassing their enemy. its amazing. they did a whole performance in frontof the leaders of the Armada and got away with it and were paid so much money they bought a ship capable of travelling to other realms.

Personally, as a DM, if you want to multiclass, I always expect you to have a narrative reason for that. If the guy who always despises being outside and doesn't want to spend a single night in the forest suddenly tells me he wants to be a druid 2nd because stats, he can shove it

Probably mostly yes. She also gets some illusion spells out of it on the side. Which the way Matt has always done illusion spells is it's deception check vs the NPCs perception. So int doesn't really matter all to much when it comes to what spells arcane trickster gets with the way Matt runs it.

@@pippastrelle yeah first level dip is cool cos expertise. Second level I guess is cool cos bonus actions... But as a wildfire druid she already has bonus actions, I think. Probably not worth it. Definitely not worth a third except for purely RP purposes. It's definitely hold you back mechanically. Especially as primary is a full caster.

when something is "forced upon" the player, I believe it should be a "here's this FEAT" that you get for free. Not make you take a level. But that's me.

Also probably because the Ruidis born thing just isn't Fearne's whole identity. She loves fire and chaos and her nana more than the moon psychic powers. She doesn't need to follow it. She's literally been classed as someone who makes her own fate by her nana. She defies it. And I would have been so bored if she went the same route as Imogen. (It makes sense FOR Imogen, Imogen leaned into it. Fearne never as beyond just finding out her dad had plans. Plus she already has the fire shard, you really think she'd want to lean into Laura's lane too? (None of this is meant to be hostile btw, just my perspective. I get the soulknife thing but it just isn't a fit for Fearne or Ashley imo and I'm glad she leaned into chaos, because chaos is perfect for Fearne. Mrs 'I'm going to talk to this guard leader like he's my bestie' Calloway)
