Andreas Andersson will teach you how to make an easy deer hair head. If you are struggling to tie with deer hair, this video is for you. It is not a video about a fly pattern but rather focuses on making a head of a baitfish pattern.

Thank you very much for helping us learn how to use deer hair. I’m ok at it, but want to do better, and as with anything, when you watch and listen to a Master of any craft, your own work will become better. You are the Best master artist of deer hair I’ve seen, and my flies are, and will become better. I really appreciate it. Thanks again Andreas. Best wishes to you, 👍👍👌🎣

I would have liked to have been able to watch you 30 years ago when I first taught myself to spin and stack deer hair. I enjoy watching you tie and it's seems like I always learn something from you. Thanks for sharing your skills with us.

What base plate are you using for your Regal vice? Was the standard Regal vice holder not stable enough? (something that would not surprise me).

I love the baits that you are tying. Normaly II use floating lines. Can you fish deer hair baits with an intermediate line? Where is the baitfish,...on top,..or,...just below the surface? greetings and tight lines.

This is SOOOOO well done!! I am still trying to work up the believe that I can do deer hair bugs. But.... do you "seal/close" the deer-hair heads with anything ( uv/epoxy/silicone etc)????

Andreas, where do you get your Deer Hair Belly Premo Strips from? I could not find any in Europe...

I tried casting these flys the other day, had a #7 wt and a tapered thick 5ft leader and the flys just bounced around everywhere and it felt impossible to cast. Do you just live with that or am I missing something gearwise that helps?

Shouldn't be too much of a problem casting this size on a 7wt, even on a longer leader than that. It can however be more demanding if you're using a fly line with a long belly, giving you the feeling that you're incapable of closing the loop while casting. I'm normally using fly lines with a 26-40 feet belly (included front and back taper), which is casting flies like this without too much hazzle.

The wet rabbit tail makes it heavier. To cast a weighted fly, you can use a Belgian cast. That keeps tension on the rod and line all the time. You will find many examples on google. Orvis has a few great videos for that.
