There's a huge drama behind this performance. Mariah opened the show that night and she got caught in traffic jam. Her dress wasn't ready, so behind that crystal ball, she get her dress sewn. While she performed, her earpiece did not work, so she removed it and struggled to deliver it without voice monitor. That's why after she performed, she took a deep breathe and said: "We made it!!"
Yoo she also almost fell too. If you guys look closely at 3:28 she lose a balance during the climax. Thank god she survive lmao istg that night the devil is working hard to make sure she failed but well as she said before... "we made itt!!" 💀
This is not lipped... Listen to her breathing for christ's sake. NOTHING and NO ONE is better than Mariah when she concentrates on hitting all the right notes.. She is fucking amazing.
Great performance! ❤❤❤❤❤Mariah Carey is my favorite singer of all time! I'm 38 and people only hate on her for the very far and few between bad performances of her! Never the amazing stuff like stellar performances and concert performances all over the world, plus Las Vegas shows! But people instead criticize her and she's not relevant anymore! In my eyes she's beautiful on the inside and out! Her songs have always been there for me my whole life! Soundtrack to my life! I love watching her live performances and studio of course!💯💯💯💯❤❤❤❤🎶🎶🎶
+Lamb Forever I don't think she lipped anything because her earpiece didn't work and she had to freestyle it, that's what she said when she received an award after the performance.
The entire audience knew that one hell of an artist performed in front of them that. Congratulations Mariah Carey you deserve to be called a living legend and your 17th #1 single is one hell of a difficult song to perform. Mid tempo, fast phrasing, complex wording, sustained belting and not to mention that it went through 3 different octaves. Thats more vocal range than most artists nowadays. Stand ovation to The Queen Miss Mariah Carey
To that thing that said she was drunk. She had a wardrobe malfunction the slit had went up to high any wrong movement and it would have fell right off on top of that the sound issues. She couldn't hear herself with the feedback so she basically fress styled the entire performance.
Dang, with Mariah's technique you could understand how hard it is to sing without ear monitors. The first and second part has whispers/falsetto in it but she didn't do it and belted those parts instead because it's freakin hard to sing in whisper/falsetto without hearing yourself. Mariah, you a beast!
When she is in the climax and sings "I'm just SPeaking from experience" in the "SP" you can hear the air coming out of her mouth strongly and hitting the mic. Also at the end of the sustained she changes pitch and starts moving the mic further apart and adds vibratto then the sound is lower because she pulled the mic away from her mouth. I hate when people always say she lip synchs just because she nails a performance. We are talking about Mariah Carey here, considered one of the most accomplished vocalists in the music industry ever so it shouldn't shock she is that good on stage
It’s live ! You can hear at the end when she’s belting , u can hear how her nodules affect her belting, there’s slight whistles coming out from all the air she belting out.
I've been told those "whistles" are just malfunctioning equipment, you hear this "whistling" in a lot of her performances during playback in the mid-late 2000s
@@rockerfeller2014Tech was more advanced in the mid-late 90s than late 90s to early 2009s, yet when she would lip-sync in the late 90s, that wouldn't happen. She's singing completely live and her peers in the industry even know it hence the standing ovation despite all the mishaps.
@@ianbraille the last note was not lipped. you can hear her get a bit shaky towards the last part of the note when she moves the mic away. u can also hear the vocals distance as she moves the mic away.
Even given the drama that happened with her dress and almost being late for this performance, I must say, this is probably the most COMFORTABLE she's EVER been on stage. EVER. She's MOVING AROUND and while concentrating to sing, I can tell she's not caring about every note. Seriously. Think about it. Prior to 2005 and post. She is RELAXED.
Funny thing about the lipsyncing accusations is that Mariah took off her ear piece so when would she have known that the backtrack kicked in? Just enjoy that damn performance it was free it's not like you paid to watch her in a concert and she lipped...
She has proven everything. She does not need ear monitors to sing but at NYE years laters it was cold and very loud. She heard nothing at NYE. She would have never known if she would be right!

Actually is not, the song has longer bridges, faster tempo it seems like it because of the radical key change, however she always produces her songs with strong climaxes in order to build up for the listener and since her voice allows her to do it she makes dramatic changes. Let's not forget that this album was the head of the entire RnB successful chart era, she is still up to this day one of the most prolific RnB singers out there and that type of music has a very specific cuntrucrion being that is based on specific rhythm and likeness of blues with hip hop infusion. She was the pioneer of incorporating rap and hip hop to vocal pop.
@@alwayspink07 No it doesn't. She sings ballads, RnB, pop, hip hop, raps even that is called musical identity however Mariah is recognized as one of the lost versatile artists in music and a pioneer on modern day mainstream music
Her voice didn't sound strong here. But what were people expecting a 1990-1995 Mariah Carey? I hope not. Whose voice really stays the same? Aretha, Whitney, Mariah and Celine Dion all sound different from what they sounded like when they started. Maybe some of the damage done was self inflicted but age is a man factor I think. All the ladies I mentioned can still/could outsing many of the young talent in the industry today. This was a good performance because she showed what her voice was still amazing.
Mariah actually had some amazing performances from this era. Her voice sounded particularly strong during the Emancipation of Mimi era (2005-2006) and the E=MC2 era (2008). This was just an off-day, I guess (she was really pitchy and her voice was cracking and breaking a lot). Listen to her performance of Fly Like a Bird at the 2006 Grammy's (it was in a medley, but skip We Belong Together because it wasn't as good) and We Belong Together at the MTV Movie Awards.
Steven Struwe Vocal nodules. I'm literally SO tired of people who criticize her vocal decline when they clearly know NOTHING. Do some research for goodness sake...
Live! That rawrrr at the end is connected to the mic. To anybody saying this is lipped, like, how come it all connected from the way she sing and move.
