Randall, you're a beast, been fun watching one of your students advance- you should have suggest this as a rudiment for him (S.O.) using the QOTSA Grohl licks! He's a Zeppelin nut who you've been doing jazz and foot technique with a lot I believe.
in 2 weeks I've become a better drummer than I could have ever imagined as a result of watching your videos and practing the techniques 2-3 hours every day. Incredible teacher and great content. Keep up the great work man.
I LOVE your drumming! Such a drive and intensity. Just hearing you groove makes me smile. I've never really liked the hertas and the blushdas, because I've really never managed to learn to use them. They always sound like a train wreck. Therefore I've stopped trying. But I love hearing you make them sooo smooth and integrated in your fills. ❤
Meshuggah fans are confused when they hear this rhythm not being played on the kicks 😸 Great video, nice and clear explanations, great sounding kit. Keep up the good work!
Dude your videos are top-notch. You deserve way more views and I'm sure you'll get them. You're an awesome teacher and make advanced concepts easy to understand. I look forward to seeing your YT trajectory because you really know what you're doing, and it shows.
What a fine sounding kit .....and playing. I have set myself a challenge; to play these fills using a couple of Herta hot dog sausages rather than sticks....
I was getting crazy about playing these riffs properly, your explanation makes everything look so easy. Not a RU-vid fan but you definitely deserved my subscription 👌
I'm the same way bud! Don't let the videos fool you... I'm doing multiple takes to get things to sound as good as I can. But these are no joke to pull off! Let's all embrace the suck together.
Really good Tutorial. Very clear, good explanations, and just the right amount of explanations, not too much, not too little. (Sorry, no native speaker)
Really freakin good presentation, sound and execution! I'm subscribed! Just wonderful to see talent like this on the tube. I may very well drop you a dime to see your material. Thank you sir.
I used to make fun of Jeff his serial killer thumb nails and being in a storage unit wasn't helping that image lol but man what a drummer and everything he teaches as he goes easy to follow no random (industry terminology) that you wont understand. Jeff has become 1 of the top 3 i turn to when im stuck and need some education to move forward. And damn since those first years to present day what a journey
yeeeessss Jeff really needed this lesson been waiting for a decent herta fill lesson, and your the man to give it us, thanks Jeff massively helpful as always man. keep ripping up drums man your insane.
Admittedly, I often thought of the herta fill as…annoying. And only occasionally good on garbage can endings. But, man - did you give me some new stuff to think about. Awesome job.
Your lessons are always GREAT! and I love how you explain things, and have the sticking on the screen, but I think if you could have another angle with the camera to see the toms more( you know what I mean ) that would be awesome!
I know this lesson was a while back now but can I get a kit breakdown? Drums and cymbals - both sound fantastic! And thank you for the great lesson, great stuff!
You're very welcome bud! I have a video breaking down my mixing process that you can check out here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jy8MVgggMMU.html
I find it kinda weird doing it the way you are doing it bc although it's noted as a triplet and a 16th note you are playing it like a flam tap and a 16th note. I understand that you are accenting the first 2 notes of the triplet and then sorta ghost noting the third but it still sounds like a flam tap.
Thanks Ryan! I got into using rides for crashes back when I started learning jazz in college. I also got into drummers like Steve Jordan and Ronnie Vannucci who use rides because of their darker sound and longer sustain. For that reason they tend to blend with the rest of the kit a bit better than brighter and faster cymbals. Plus they look insane! Haha.
No no no, thats to cheesy and sloppy in my ears. Check out how for example portnoy plays the herta; the last hit is the loudest, r l r L! Sound much better i think!😊
