Thank you for sharing your story. I have BDD too and know how all consuming it can be. When you said that ‘fixing’ one problem just led to you focusing on another after a temporary feeling of respite really resonated with me. I’ve been using make up since my early 20s to hide acne scarring and whilst I’ve never felt that I needed to use a gender specific make up brand - I can imagine that many men out there would feel more comfortable shopping or browsing in a department that is specifically for men. Even though times are changing and mainstream cosmetics companies are beginning to use male models, it often feels tokenistic. Even now when I go shopping on the high street for make up, I’ll get strange looks and comments made my way for shopping for what is often considered a product aimed at women. And whilst I’ve been doing it for so long that I’m able to ignore those people, I know for many men, it would contribute massively to low self esteem. Keep doing what you’re doing and I hope this documentary shows people that there’s room in the marketplace for all types of products that are targeted at both mainstream and niche audiences
