@@sjoerdo6988 His FIFTH! Original offer was 20% for all. Then 10% for half, followed by 7.5%, down to 7%, then 7% drop to 6% on investment return, and finally 6%!
Chango Chilemba That’s some story, how do you know he just didn’t want to lose 20% of his company that he’s put his life into for a bit of advertising?
12:40 don't tell Peter and Tej that you want them after asking them to come down on their percentage, that's just improving their bargaining position, he got lucky they let him get away with that
He isn’t negotiating procurement, he’s negotiating an investment/partnership, two very different dynamics. Both guys have a reputation to uphold, if he hadn’t said what he did, it would look as if he was screwing them down on the % over and over, and they were just passively accepting it. He was smart enough to compliment them, and solidify their standing and reputation, while asking for another drop down, so that they could do it without losing face. Business in many ways should be purely numbers, but it really isn’t, even if both of them were happy at a certain %, if they were forced into a position where agreeing could cast them in a light that made them look weak, passive and easy to exploit, they would have to reject it. The entrepreneur wouldn’t have succeeded with that last push without it.
The name 'War Paint for Men' is very, very ingenious, it creates a soothing thought for men to put makeup into their faces while thinking about the ancient custom of war paint, it creates a fascinating dichotomy that without no doubt will work! ✴
@Immortal The target for it is more manly men who would not wear makeup. The guy is right when he said the major female companies would have a harder time breaking in because well they are women's make up, men are funny but we are what we are.
@@SirCanuckelhead - I agree. And I think it's a similar story when you look at things like razors... they make them in pink and lilac to sell to women, so obviously the market is very different for men and women. The name is crucial - one brand of women's razor is called Venus, which sounds lovely to women compared to "Gillette Triple Action close-shave razor" which would appeal more to men.
Yes. I'm just sad he didn't take all five of them. They all so clearly wanted him. Would have been an orgy of investing and door opening. Instead now he gets 3 angry soon to be competitors
I think it really depends on the product. They know the product was going to be big so they're making money either way and if they back out they'll lose out on the money - which is a bad move for an investor of such high potential product.
I love how this show didn't belittle this man's BDD and make it into a "feel sorry for me" section with soft music which transitions to the "uplifting" major scale just before his actual pitch. His problems and his overcoming of them were part of his pitch and part of his business, presented in a way that was respectful and interesting - thank you for not editing this like Americans would have done.
Too bad the media still managed to turn it into "toxic masculinity", sexism in general and I've even seen a tweet saying something about the brand being made out of "contempt to women"... At least BBC had some respect to the man and I applaud both them AND the dude in question for dealing with all of that in such a professional manner even if he was, very likely, scared shitless going into the den.
Totally agree. Impressive when people are honest about problems, but we all have them, and we definitely don't need background music for them. Although if it was in a modal scale it would at least be interesting and poignantly tragically neutral.
Seriously, I’m an American and I’ve started to watch this more than shark tank because it is far more serious and feels more authentic. If there is a sad story it’s never used like a sob story and overdone. They pay their respects and recognize the issue but still treat the entrepreneur like an adult and like an equal rather than a child.
I'm an American and you're totally right, we do play upon emotions. But, due to your harsh comments about us, I will no longer be chatting with you due to the harm you have brought upon our name... so I'm out.
From trembling bullied child to dragon haggler, the guy is inspirational. It almost brings tears to my eyes how brave this pitch was and how much he has accomplished.
@@criptik5208 It means presenting themselves as well as possible so that the person chooses them and not the other Dragons. Usually, it is the other way around.
Fit and got a good back story always helps, but he’s also got a good product and a market for it, and he’s done his research and got his product refined _and_ guarded via trademark, I mean some guys arrive with the bare bones of an idea, this guy’s done some hard work fully fleshing it out and is polite and ready for this opportunity.
@@Lumibear. oh yeah I'm not saying he didn't deserve the investment he totally did, I was just stating the obvious AND he can use his own face to model the make up = more money
It doesn't look like the company is going to be in business for much longer. It's being torn apart all over the internet and the financial information I've been able to find is very bad.
Toukar has often made offers when Peter or even all other dragons have pulled out. But agree with @ArchieZeroOne that Peter and Deborah are king and queen of the den
That was an amazing negotiation, really shows his confidence in his brand and product and knows what he's worth. Having the guts to stand his ground in front of all the dragons is mind blowing. Well done.
And Theo still had a pop at Peter for it (just shows you how much he hates Peter). If it was a women's product and Deborah said, "a brand for women, run by women", no one would even dare say a word against it. It goes to show that sexism is only considered wrong when it's women who are targeted... no bigotry there lol
Well I'm 18 and I started the company when I was 32. First year, gross profit of £200,000, net loss of ¥128,000.213 Second and third years...I don't have those figures.... I'm sorry. Can I talk to the wall?
It’s a shame because it’s the wrong approach, he should have received help to accept the way he is… not to further the need for perfection. It’s a terrible idea, women already can’t leave the house without makeup due to the unrealistic standard set by widespread makeup use…. This will do the exact same with me if it will take off. Which it won’t, most men know it’s more attractive to look rugid, not pretty
Can't recall seeing an entrepreneur really stick to his guns and come away with a great result. It would've been the real potential of the brand that made it not worth throwing away over 1%
An online billing company made Tej agree to give out 60,000 pounds for a mere 1.5% of equity. You need to have a very healthy growth rate with high margin of profitability to make something like that to happen.
I’ve suffered from insecurity and body dysmorphia so this really resonates with me **Update: I’ve now bought War Paint for Men’s concealer and I can confirm it’s a quality product, as good as Tom Ford for Men** 😊
This was so stupid and so lame. If you have persistent acne still go on accutane. You’ll never get acne again after a 6-9month cycle. And for any old acne scarring get collagen induction therapy like derma rolling or micro needling as well as fraxel laser resurfacing and actually Get Rid of the issue and have healthy skin instead of wearing makeup like a woman. Pathetic.
@@tinderella2386 Ah a medically qualified troglodyte I see. Roaccutane is not a permanent fix - the improvements often wear off after a few years: they did with me. It also has awful side effects and cannot be prescribed by a GP. And having collagen treatments isn't somehow being 'like a woman' but makeup is... Someone has issues.
So anyone criticises the fact you’re a man wearing makeup and I’m an internet expert ‘troglodyte’?? The effects of accutane are permanent. You just needed to run another course. But it’s well known that they can permanently stop acne coming back and bodybuilders and big time steroid users use it and have permanent acne suppression. And also, yes, collagen induction therapy, which you obviously don’t even know what it is is far FAR less feminine and pathetic then wearing makeup. You can buy your own dermapen and do it yourself at home, and it’s a form of micro needling that creates thousands of micro trauma to the skin and induces it to promote more collagen. And it genuinely works for scarring and stretch marks and is the Only thing that does so. I had a few stretch marks from when my mental health was really poor and stacked on a bunch of weight, and did it on my stretch marks and it completely cured them. Or perhaps according to you it would have been better and more masculine to put some makeup on them? I would call an effective permanent solution to a skin issue with real efficacy just sensible. I would call being insecure about it and wearing makeup pathetic. And I wasn’t even trolling you and actually gave you some real world unbiased advice, but no no, you go keep wearing your makeup. Perhaps you can find a handbag to put it in when you go out.
Wow, mindblowing. One of the best pitch ever. He got the dragons not only make offers but futhermore got them lower their share & share it. Simply brilliant.
he screams toxic masculinity with this project yet talks confidently about problems with body issues, you can’t do both lol he’s funded a product that contributes to his pain
I love how this show didn't belittle this man's BDD and make it into a "feel sorry for me" section with soft music which transitions to the "uplifting" major scale just before his actual pitch. This is the most impressive entrepreneur I've seen here with his negotiation skills and absolute confidence in his business, massive respect for the guy. And for someone who said that he suffers with confidence issues related to his self-image, he sure has balls of steel, negotiating with Peter and Tej like that, total legend.
@Undoctrinated I respectfully disagree: He wasn't using his shortcomings as a form of currency, or using a sob story for leverage, or making a victim of himself. I saw it as a success story. This guy had a problem (though I couldn't understand what he said about that) and he found a way to overcome it and in the process realized there was an avenue for profit. That's capitalism. I doubt that the dragons would have offered to invest on the basis of feeling sorry for the guy, they invest because they see profit. That profit has nothing to do with how the product line came about, the profit comes from market availability: potential customers aren't going to buy because they feel sorry for the founder of the company, they are going to buy because they want what the company has to offer.
because there are 5 companies offering male make up that are formerly known for offering female make up.... and a current cap of 60b that is set to increase by 50% - all of their videos are 14mins long at max and have obviously been edited down. What are you insinuating? Other than the fact that you clearly can't retain information in a 15 minute window or use critical thinking?
@@ToxicatedLum Well, that never was a reason that stopped them in the past, was it?. its a valid point and totally unusual they didnt leave the parts where they talked about the company's real numbers. Hes got to be hemorrhaging cash since inception with all the design and legal battle involved for the trademark. It just goes to show that they keep what will help the companies dragons invest in and hide the not so glorious parts... and they trash the ones that dont get any investments to satisfy the audience love of "blood". This show is getting close to the american one, its becoming a trap for the inventors.
Wow, starting of with a genuine bit of backstory into a perfect business pitch and standing his ground in a tough but never combative negotiation to finally get two dragons down by 40% (from 20 to 12 percentage points) of what they were willing to offer initially. This guy is exceptional.
This guy was incredibly impressive. His pitch, his product, his negotiation, I don't think I've ever seen a better performer in the Den. I've alos seen his product promotions all over facebook, he has the name out there.
Ok lets not go that far now. That's just crazy talk. I recently saw Australian Shark tank video where a man offered 25% of his company for $1. I doubt Jenny would have invested there even.
One of the most well polished and well executed pitches I've seen. He showed vulnerability and on top of that, his brand actually does stand out as a more 'masculine' appeal for men.
Either it was edited out or this whole pitch was set up to tell a positive story. Fair play to the guy, he's done really well, but the whole thing is edited so heavily that it looks like it was set up from the start...
Bullying is really indiscriminate I have found. The only way to avoid it at a young age is to relent to the bullies, adopting their friend groups, manners and customs as your own.
Damn this guy killed it. I wouldn't mind giving some of his products a try. I love how he managed to snag that trademark; he could easily capitalize on the fact that it is a common name for makeup and branch out into women's as well down the line if they ever so choose. And his negotiating was spot-on, trying to talk them down without being pushy or presumptuous. I still can't believe he actually talked Peter down like that.
Very risky to tell an investor that you specifically want them since they can then control the negotiation. But damn he did well to bring it down to that price
Yup, I wear concealer every day and I love this and would buy it. He's taken a personal problem and turned it into his greatest achievement. Hats off buddy.
I've seen so many pitches but this is one of the best if not the best negotiations in this show. The guy isthe definition of confidence and effort to change his life. Massive respect 💪💪
Im glad this guy did what he did. As someone who maybe doesnt have the best body image its touching to know there are people out there trying to help with that
A great entrepreneur, obviously prepared... but most of all I admired his genuine humility, credibility and knowing his worth and sticking to it. Best of luck!
