There is never one solution to a problem and in the martial arts we are always posed with these questions. So I'm giving you guys three additional answers you might not have yet or aren't using enough of. The three I give you have an endless number of follow-ups. Rather than only blocking make sure you capitalize on evasions and jamming strikes. These simple variations can add an entire layer to your striking game.

Wow I'm sorry I've done kickboxing for a while and I honestly haven't seen these techniques before, very interesting I guess it just doesn't come naturally to respond with a kick when a kick is being thrown at me, lol I'm going to use this right away cause I feel like I've been doing the same, just pick up the knee, or move out the way, Maybe pick up the knee and super man punch as that knee is being picked up but that's me at best being fancy. Thanks for the tip brother I appreciate it

Cheers! Happy to hear it. The main two examples are great, but I wanna provide a few other answers you might not have thought of. You definitely need to fight instinct a bit to counter a kick with a kick, but once it works it's awesome. You're very welcome.

@@Dr-Grayson I'll say it here man I think you're onto something cause I've not seen many people try this in the ring, and I love this concept of sharing newer techniques to change the game up and come in angles opponents aren't used to

Jamming and Chop Blocking leg kicks is a good strategy same weight vs same weight or if you are bigger than your opponent. If you can chop block to the inside of the original attacker's thigh, their leg will go dead for 5 to 10 seconds if you do it right. It should be easy enough for a brown or black belt to finish off the original attacker. Matt Griega used to do this to me all the time. It took a GOOD thrust kick to keep him off me, because I was 185 and he was 235 and 2nd dan. If I had a sub-par round kick against him, it was sure to get jammed and chop blocked,a nd then I was screwed. It took me YEARS to learn how to fight him in full contact sparring.

I've had fairly good success doing it against people larger than myself. I weigh about 160lbs. Really just comes down to the timing but that takes careful practice to develop. I used to have a similar training partner like you described, gave me a real appreciation for the technique while I learned to use it properly myself. Appreciate your input, thanks for watching.

@@Dr-Grayson Yeah, it's possible for a lighter fighter to beat a bigger one with precise striking, get your strikes out and back asap, and don't telegraph so they can't jamm you as easy, dance and foot feint, but always keep one foot on the ground, don't "bounce around" like points sparrers. Matt was one tough cookie to crack. He caught me on the jaw one time with no more than 75% what he had, and it buckled my knees and I had to wave him off and tell him not to hit me again for 10 or 15 seconds to recover. Had he hit me in the face again, I'd have been knocked cold for sure. I think I was 2nd Kyu when that happened. I didn't start beating him in sparring until about 6 months after I earned first kyu and was testing for black belt. I was circuit training 20 hours per week back then. Matt was an 8 years veteran Marine and a police officer too.

Wait are you sure checking with the shin is legal in savate? I was always told it wasn't

This is in the context of MMA, not Savate. I am simply including Savate style techniques into the methods of mixed martial arts. Same reason I bring up not wearing shoes in this video. You're absolutely right, blocking with the shin is illegal in Savate (Unless it's Savate Pro Rules), but this is an MMA striking video that highlights Savate technique.

Oh ok my bad then!

No worries at all, I make sure all my thumbnails touch upon whether it's purely Savate or more MMA focused, but I should make things more clear, I'll start mentioning it more in the video. Help prevent confusion in the future. Thanks for watching!
