The way he swings between being deeply insecure and genuinely afraid to defensively lashing out at the other driver and seeking refuge in power fantasies is so authentic I can't help but feel like it was drawn from some real encounter Tim had with a bad driver
I feel like this sketch was inspired by the usual insult angry drivers yell at each other during road rage "Don't you know how to drive?!" Tim followed the what if scenario of someone genuinely answering that question "no"
This is such a great way of describing this scene and the show in general. I read that Tim got some dialogue ideas from just listening to children talk, like the line “I don’t know how I can hear anymore about tables,” from this season. Such a brilliant mixing of the infantile in a literal sense and then in the metaphoric retreating into fantasy as a way of coping with normal anxieties and a loss of control/meaning.
Yelling Driver Guy is the most hyperrealistic character in the entire show (absolutely pitch perfect acting) and Tim is even more of an incomprehensible alien than usual. The clash of the two is truly electric
This whole sketch is amazing but the delivery and the line " Nope, I'm good, thank you. You don't want to help me you just want to yell." is maybe the funniest thing I've ever seen.
I know that's my favorite line. I say it to my husband all the time. The mere idea he has no idea what a car horn is, he's just never even been near a car. So funny!
That “I’m gonna tell you something” and finger wag at 1:40 slay me. A flash of unearned confidence from a man who moments earlier was melting down over a steering wheel… it’s beautiful.
it's just like that shift in focus during the court skit. When it shifts to him in his hat. Obliterates me every time. That and when he starts kicking the dice in that skit lmao.
I remember the first time I watched this skit. I was just thinking "Tim's going to be the other driver, isn't he?" As soon as he poked his head out, I was rolling
the steering wheel "burning" his hands is another one of his mimic baby/toddlers moves that just come out of nowhere. Like the plumbers playing in his house and not letting him join in. Dude is a genius.
I think Tim is so good because he captures that inner toddler in all of us so well. It's not just that he's saying insane things but it's believable on some primal level because of how toddler like it is but in adult form.
This is easily my favorite skit of the season, and top 3 in the show so far. Everything about it is fucking perfect. The way he pops his head out the window, his fixation on being yelled at, nearly on the verge of tears throughout. It's so good.
What kills me every time is how overwhelming a dashboard/driving would be for anyone who doesn't know how to drive. And the way he sincerely delivers it with tears in his eyes is so fucking perfect.
"I don't know what any of this shit is" It's not just what he says, but it's the way he says it that makes you spit the sloppy steak out your mouth cause you have to laugh so hard
@@LordOfDhara well tbf i like both shows but yea itysl is consistently much better You have to also take into account tho that snl only has a week to write their sketches and the host gets to pick which ones are in it so really a lot of the quality of each episode depends on the host's sense of humor. When writers have time to plan out their sketches in advance like itysl its almost always gonna be consistently better
THANK YOU for uploading this, one of my favorite sketches from the new season. Tim of course is hysterical, BUT the other guy's reactions are every bit as priceless. The authentic bewilderment & rage fading into utter dispair by the end. Even just the delivery of each of his various "WHAT?!" makes me laugh every time.
This skit is why I sometimes start laughing when another driver cuts me off or does something stupid . I imagine that Tim turns out to be the one driving the other car
This is one of the most thought-provoking segments of anything I've ever seen. Where are they? What are they both leaving from? Who drove him there? Why does he have a minivan, does he have children? How did he end up alone in the drivers seat when he does not know how to drive? Who left him? Where did they go? Why is he trying to leave if someone left him alone in the car? Where does he want to go?
His phone is mounted in the van as if he did that or did he not? Did he steal the Van? If he stole the van, how did he manage to back out and navigate as far as he has?
What’s so great about this sketch is I have no idea if Tim’s character genuinely doesn’t know how to drive or if he’s just completely playing it up to get back at the other guy for being a jerk. Either one is equally plausible with this show and I absolutely love it
I wonder if Tim just acted out of necessity (since he was originally a writer) and didn't actually realize what a great actor he is until he started seeing all the positive responses.
Grabbing the steering wheel and screaming as if it was hot metal had me cry laughing. I got to work and watched it on mute and still can't keep it together.
As someone who deals with massive amounts of anxiety (to the point it gives me seizures, hearing loss, and vision loss), I find this sketch so relatable! There have been so many times when I was just trying to do the thing I've done so many times, but my brain just wouldn't work. 😂😂😂
This is such a metaphor for so many things in life. Just remember this sketch when you get frustrated at someone when an action seems so simple to you. That's literally what this sketch boils down to. Emotionally or physically. Just have patience and understanding.
Honestly this is the best sketch show since Chappelle, WKUK and K&P. I’m sure Tim learned a lot at SNL, but they were holding him back just like Trevor Moore. This is comedy gold.
When Tim says "Nope. I'm good, thank you." and the guy kind of really tries processing it for a split second, and immediately goes "WHAT?!" that shit blew me away XD
I don't think he shoulda yelled at that driver. You know what would boost his confidence? A shirt with a super complicated pattern, or even a fedora with safari flaps. I bet he's the only one who could pull that off!
