DON"T LOOK At The Ball - The KEY To GREAT BALL Striking

Where you 'look' or place your focus can directly influence how you deliver your golf club to the ball, and when you are looking to improve both your iron swing and driver swing this becomes incredibly important.
It would make sense to simply look at the golf ball for all shots, and that can work for some, but for many changing where you look based on the club can be a game changer for strike and performance. many of the golfers that I have helped over the years have seen far better results when not looking at the golf ball, seems crazy but it really does work.
In this video I discuss a really important concept called the 'Swing Circle' and explain how this influences how to club approaches the ball, key for both iron play and driver.
Once you understand the swing circle you will be able to change your focus for each club giving you instantly better results and more consistency out on the course.

I can't believe I have to comment. But .... I took this to the range early today and amazed myself. By moving the focus of my contact to just in front of the ball and just below the turf, I finally started making that ball first contact that every video proclaims. Several months ago I paid to get my distances from Trackman. My 46 degree Titleist pitching wedge distance was 110 yds, today I carried 125 yds multiple times with good direction and less effort. I honestly did not want to try this as I figured I would just bury the club face into the ground but surprisingly that did not happen. I'm playing a round on Monday and can't wait to see what happens. Thank you for this video!

For me personally i look 2 ball widths forward 8, down to SW. 7 to 3hybrid... 1 ball width. This has helped alot

Great vid! Tx CR. I was given this tip and a similar drill years ago - " The ball is not the target." I went from a 13 index to 4 in less than a season. It is also an excellent way to ensure clean contact from a fairway bunker. Cheers!

OMG I love this video! I was stoked when you said rahm does this cuz that’s what’s kinda fixed my driving ! He can’t get the club head square at impact, so instead he gets the club where it won’t square up, and then puts the ball ahead of that so that by the time the club reaches the ball, it’s square. These two tips have made so much more consistent ball striking for me it’s becoming easy… PLZ try this if you haven’t. Yes it’s hard not look at the ball, but once you’ve focused hard enough on this, it will become easy

I have found this channel to provide the most practical solutions to swing issues. He pulled me out of a month long slump of hitting high balloon slices that I just could not shake. I tried everything until I found Chris. It was the clap to get the head square that saved me.

One of your best videos. When it goes to split screen it could do with slow motion so you can watch in more detail. But the set you done with the hands at the club head explains how to do it. Well done again Chris.

Great vid chris. I started looking 1/2 inches ahead of ball with irons to stop the shanks, it really improved my stroke location. Never thought to imagine it lower in ground, makes sense though!

Great video Chris, thank you. I started doing similar with my driver and it has definitely improved that aspect. However, no matter what I do with irons, I still have a tendency to catch them fat to some degree!

Going to the range today to try the driver tip. My irons are typically very solid, but I struggle to hit a draw. My stock shot is a slight fade, which works fine for most holes, but there are three holes on my home course that require a draw off the tee...and I rarely pull it off. Hopefully, your tip will be a game changer.

I had a terrible problem fading the ball a lot when I first started golfing. My instructor told me the same to set up the driver club had a good 6 inches behind the ball. That is my normal set up to this day. It pretty much immediately fixed my slicing and fading problem.

I like this, i often advise my daughter not to focus on the ball, these tips will give her something to work towards. I do place my driver about 4 inches behind the ball at address but i look at the ball! I will now try to 'focus' on my driver clubhead starting position. Is this correct? Where should you focus for hybrids and fairway woods? Similar to irons?

I also done this for ages my irons where sometimes fat and my driver no flight its fysics which I should know as an engineer but never thought of it this way till recently I started to practice it and results are awesome although it needs practice in stress situations its more difficult to not focus on the ball but quality shots definitely increase pure hits with long irons much better now

I’ve started doing this around COVID time. I gained yardages without really increasing my swing speed and with crispy ball contact. But I took a short break this year and when I returned, I didn’t apply this method and I lost distances in all my clubs. Then Two days ago I went back to this method while fixing my ball contact issue. Anyway I’m back to hitting it crisp and gained yards. But still WIP…. Give a try

Chris without knowing this I started to do this some months ago and results are awesome my compression on my irons is very good need at least one iron less and great ball flight (and less influence of wind due to compression) ps thos works up ro 3 wood with my driver I still have some problems probably because my focus is not that far behind thnx for that didnt know about Jon but as I am living in Spain the Spaniards must love this story thnx this tip is really working

@thomastrain7311

I've used this for a long time and it works great. I've found when I get around to hitting a fwy wood , I can just look at the ball normally. By doing that with the irons during play it seems to sync my release. So with those longer clubs I don't for one main reason , which is I don't want to get too steep.

Trying to look at the ball constantly stopped me from turning cause id just lock my neck up..staring at the ball the whole time and not letting my view of it change whatsoever signaled that it was time to start my downswing...problem was that it was always at like a half turn..now I just imagine a line behind the ball, going thru the ball, and on the other side... and i rotate my neck slightly when i turn...my head feels like its swaying but its really just rotating and still in the circle...freeing up my neck by not staring at the top of the ball has been a gamechanger

Hello, I am definitely struggling with the above. When I'm striking my irons well I can't hit my driver! In fact, I've been struggling with my driver for a while now, but I used to be so confident with it. I'm wondering if it's because I'm shifting my weight over to my lead leg and therefore the lowest part of my swing is on or after the ball? Is there less transfer of weight when using the driver? I hope that makes sense to you? Thanks Jo

Chris, how about for 3/5 wood? similar to iron but focusing just in front of ball rather than club width? ⛳️

how bout when you have a lie in the rough and the ball is 1 or 2 inches higher off the ground - do i still look ahead of the ball?
@ChrisRyanGolf
@ChrisRyanGolf 11 месяцев назад
Yes I would as you still would like the same club delivery, I’d just start with the club head centred behind the ball, tricky though when you have those awkward situations
@mntlblok
@mntlblok 11 месяцев назад
Have, out of desperation, gone to aiming for various spots on the ground in order to avoid shanking. Chips and pitches are about an inch "inside" the ball (towards me), full short irons "just" inside the ball, and bunker shots about two and a half inches inside the ball (and an inch or two "behind"). Gathering the nerve to actually *do* these things has been quite the painful chore, but they do seem to be working and I do now have some confidence in their use. I can definitely see how moving my iron "spot" to three inches in front of the ball could be huge, but my palms are sweating as I type, trying to have a mental picture that does not include skulling or topping the ball. I think I can work past it, but before I try, might you give some advice/insights related to this recent "short" of yours? ru-vid.comEv_hBOBNGjw I'm picturing the arc and club face being in an uncomfortable position once a club head width past the ball. I *really* don't want to have to start picturing an "out to in" club head path towards that "spot". TIA I'll go dry my hands now. . .
@ra1der5
@ra1der5 8 месяцев назад
I actually find it MUCH easier to focus on a low point behind the ball (driver) than I do “in front of the ball and below the ground”. Getting that ball first contact, divot after the ball, and extension about 18” beyond the ball in the follow through is a mystery.

what works better for me when im in the rough and ball is sitting up and the spot in front of the ball is lower - then for me looking at the front of the ball is better than looking at the spot - i make better contact
