I see these video titles and claims all the time..... BUT WOW EVERYONE, this video is a MUST watch and goes in my top 2 in regards to video. Even if you are not a FCP user the tips he gives are Legit core building blocks, to use as we learn and grow. And if you do use FCP he shows things I have NEVER SEEN , and I have watched a lot of FCP videos , even from super reputable channels, and I have never seen at least 3 of these anywhere. I wonder if in future versions of FCP, that if they could change the way the camera LUT in the inspector tab handles the footage... So when you change it in the inspector, any corrections like wheels and curves were always before the Camera LUT in the inspector. This would be great.

Great video as always. Ignoring those worthless temp/tint sliders in FCPX is the single biggest thing that improved color in my work. I actually do what I call "bookend balancing" balancing the highlights and the shadows independently. Thanks for getting to the point, not constantly hyping yourself or your offerings, and presenting really solid info. Rave on!
Really enjoying these videos. You always lace us with such great tips and knowledge regarding FCP and color. I really appreciate it. At 4:25 I found this section very interesting and would love to know if you could do a video on this portion e.g. converting log footage to rec 709 camera lut. I saw a few videos that said this was a good thing and or should be done first but watching your video gives a different perspective. This is an area in which I have struggled and would love to know more. Could you do a video on that or do you happen to go more in-depth in the masterclass?

@@dylanjohndickerson Thank you. I was looking at the class and I am thinking about doing it. It would be good to learn more about the C-log 3 conversion to rec 709. I have searched and searched and I can't find much info about that area in FCP. Not too many people discuss the settings and camera lut section. If you go over that in the masterclass then it definitely might be worth taking (on top of all the other great info you will be teaching/going over).

Question: Did you have to download the SLog 3 camera LUT in order to load it into the Custom LUT effect in the effects browser? Hopefully that made sense lol Awesome tutorial
I did but you can also find where you the defaults are in your computer but navigating to the Lut window in the inspector and clicking show in finder. You can copy them from there or download them directly from the camera manufacturer.
Oftentimes, I got blown out details, especially on the skin. So I normally pull down Gain and some Gamma. But doing so make my overall video looks dark. How do you propose I solve this?

That range check does not work for me for some reason? I had a Logo in the timeline, just a png and it works on that, but when I click on my video clip below and WAY over expose my clip there are no warnings? Am I missing something? I even clicked on the logo and hid it just in case and still nothing, but if I turn on the logo above my clip it does show the range with Zebras? Any suggestions?
@@dylanjohndickerson Hey thanks for answering, Yes, Sony A7IV Clips with LUT or grade on them FCPX when I select that range nothing happens..weird... But my text layer which is on top does show the range in the white text as overdosed, but not on my video clips... Even tried deleting the text or PNG logo I have stacked but still does not work... Thanks for any help... Seems like a helpful tool no doubt.
