This video should have 1000's of more likes, Totally awesome. The GHB key board set up is worth thousands of likes alone. I do have a question though, I do not use Proxies at all M2 Studio Max here and never really need to but I do see in my Library I have a folder called Render Files and in that folder is another folder High Quality Files which get's HUGE and takes up a ton of space. When saving my library as a back up I erase all those files but what are they and can I erase them during A Project or will it screw up something? That folder get's huge during a project. Thanks for any information about that. I am in the middle of HUGE project and do not want to mess anything up. But would love to save some space if I can while still working on it...? Thank you! I imagine if I erase it, every time I open a timeline I have been working on it will have to render that timeline again before I can keep working on it?
@dylanjohndickerson
@dylanjohndickerson 21 час назад
Thanks so much man 👊🏼 So you can delete those with no issues. You likely have background rendering turned on which I highly suggest turning off. Press command and comma to bring up your preferences and it’s in the editing tab I think. You can erase all the render files you currently have too.

@@dylanjohndickerson Thanks, You are the fastest ever to respond..LOL Yes I saw you said turn that off in settings, I thought I had it off. But with that off, That means I have to continually render the timeline manually? I have like 30 projects currently in one library and wondering if also every time I open them it will have to render again if I delete those files? Hope that makes sense Thanks man
@ekphotography
@ekphotography 20 часов назад
Those render folders are currently at 400 gigs... OMG
@dylanjohndickerson
@dylanjohndickerson 9 часов назад
@@ekphotography You don't really need to have your timeline rendered. Unless you're really having trouble with playback, but in that instance, I'd just render that specific clip that's causing issues by selecting it and pressing Control R. Your project renders when it exports so it's not really needed.

HI Dylan... thank you for these tips! However when I try to adjust the colour of the skintone, I find the vectorscope lines move up down left right, but DOESNT rotate 360 therefore no matter what I seem to change from the colour wheels or hue's, I can't seem to line the skin colour to the line, nor stretch it further than perhaps 10%/15% of the line length. its always slightly diagonally off the skin tone line. Hope that makes sense! Any tips on this one? :) thanks!

So t-stops will always be higher than the f-stop equivalent, because the light transmission is always less than 100%? So an f/1.8 could be a t/2 or t/2.2 lens? So you'll get more background blurring than you're used to with a t lens?

@dylanjohndickerson Thank You for the informative video! Regardless of whether or not I use a specific FCP feature, I do like to see what people are doing with FCP. I shoot Travel Vlogs on my iPhone 14 Pro Max, and I’m happy with the colors in the video. There was only one Time I can think of where the actual color of a surface was different than what the iPhone showed on the screen, but it could be due to Lighting. It was very slight, so not a big deal. I’m not sure if the different color was in the actual video, but could have just looked different on the iPhone screen, I am not sure. Either way, I do not mess with the colors of my videos, while editing. I do not know too much about color grading or color correction. Since I edit to upload to RU-vid, and I am happy with the colors, I do not see the need to mess with the colors. I also don’t want extra work for my videos. I never shoot in Log, and only the normal color profile is used (except when I accidentally shot in HDR, for which I know FCP will automatically fix it on an SDR Timeline). With All of that in mind, I have some concerns. Does FCP only show the exact colors shot by the camera, or is there a chance of FCP changing colors on its own (apparently some people have had issues with this)? Also, is the AI Feature automatic, or does the user have to set the feature? I do not want FCP automatically messing with the colors. Thank You! All the Best!

I only use temperature and tint and I just really try to shoot in camera and do as little in post as possible. Took that theory from Roger Deakins. Also you should grab a bunch of old film stils and see skin tone line is way off and it still looks great. Even Joker is the same. And if there is a red hue cast from curtains, clothing, furniture you kinda want that there as it is natural.
@dylanjohndickerson
@dylanjohndickerson 5 дней назад

@artofduke
@artofduke 5 дней назад
@@dylanjohndickerson I saw that and I did I watched the whole thing. I wasn't necessarily referring to the video, I was just giving everyone my process when it comes to skin tones. Personally I think l temperature affects the hue the most. But whatever works for people is great. But when I started out I got really confused by so many people referring to the skin tone lines to find out soooo many movies don't even have the skin tones on that lines and still look great.
@dylanjohndickerson
@dylanjohndickerson 5 дней назад
@@artofduke Temperature and tint sliders do affect the hue, yes. But they affect your shot gradually with your black point locked down, which is not always prudent in every situation. Knowing how to use the tools you have for different situations is definitely important. Ya there's definitely a difference between color correction and color grading. Stylized looks, like in films, often have skin swinging off the line, which is fine. However for most commercial work, RU-vid videos, real estate videos, etc, usually accurate skin tones are recommended.
@artofduke
@artofduke 5 дней назад
@@dylanjohndickerson Right, like you said it all depends. I wasn't criticizing your video. I was just adding my two cents with my process, and I spend years confused trying to figure it out, I'm still learning, but I'm much less confused these days.

Found a bug where some footage will just freeze up rendering at frame 1 if you use the new Enhance Light and Color. I created a duplicate of a project, in the dupe I added the new Enhance effect across several clips (including the first one), and it brings FCP *and* Motion to its knees. This is on a M3 Mac with a 20TB RAID 2 array, so no it's not an issue of hardware.

Did you happen to watch the whole video? Because I go over that. Often times, it’s not just your subject’s skin that’s off. So using only hue vs hue every time your skin tones are inaccurate will help you to get the skin tones on track, but you’ll be leaving other areas of your shot off as well. I absolutely love that you included how white balance and tint adjustment sliders differ from the color wheels. Just confirming that the only difference is protecting the blacks. I've seen so little in explaining when and why one would choose this. I wonder if using a color chart might more clearly show how each works.
