Get acquainted with a little color theory. Can go a long way with direction for editing. For example, teals and oranges are almost an unbeatable combo, after you find out where your comfort is after some practice.
2:22 Are you talking full frame cameras as well, no? Because from what I know, on crop sensor that shutter speed should also multiplied with the crop factor, for example a 24mm on a 1.5 crop should need at least 1/50s. You could tell these in the videos also, because your videos are great, but we have different cameras here. :)
this was especially hard for me at the beginning because i love experimenting so much! but over time you learn what that limit is. don't worry, you'll get it! :)
Great Video and Tips Pat Kay! Especially love about the last tip - It's all about the Photographer's eyes, taste and life experience (I would love to add...) It's about the inner side of an individual and how a person perceives and appreciate things in life or from the world
I’ve been watching your videos for the past 2 days and my photos have been coming out great!!! As well as my understand of photography has grown because of you, thank you man!
Thank you so much. I subscribed yesterday. I am studying Film and directing soon and although your channel is about photography i feel like its so helpful for me.
Excellent video! Glad I came across your channel. Very useful content and information. I’m too fast taking photos, I have to make a conscious effort to slow down.. This is very difficult for me.
Nailed it with the 'less is more'. Well, at least for my preferences. I often see incredible landscape photos, and for practice, I copy them, then crop and edit them to how I would have finished them off. Others have a better eye for composition that I do, but I think I can take a great photo and get more out of it than some much better photographers than me.
Hey amazing video! i was wondering if you could make a video about what to have in mind when buying a camera? different specifications to have in mind, it's good to buy a used camera? etc. Great content!!
The over and under editing is what I find myself struggling with on street photography, especially here in Vancouver where there are too many tall buildings creating shadows that mess up a shot, yet at the same time in some places the sunlight is completely blown out. Oof! Great tips though indeed! I really do need to learn to slow down and stop worrying about getting that 'one' great shot. 😅
Big Thanks Patkay. I watched couple of your videos and I've learnt things from them. ☺☺ Please can you make a video on "image composition" and maybe tips and tricks to composing images? The art visual language...We will really love that! Thank you
This is all good! The Basics! “Simplify! - Watch the shutter speed! - Nail the focus! Especially nail the focus. Blurry pics just don’t cut it. Razor sharp; colorful (unless the intent is a monochrome vision, obviously). A clear and uncluttered subject. That’s what we see in the best work, over and over. And finally - it’s not about the gear! Yay!
Such great reminders, and very encouraging to understand the process a bit more. What recommendations do you have for developing your photographic "eye" or "vision"? What visual exercises can help with being able to "see" photos and developing that area of the craft? Thanks.
there's a bunch of stuff; videos that i'll be making in the future for sure. in the meantime, i've written a bunch of articles on my site that you can check out! patkay.com.
@@patkay Thank you. The blog content is indeed very helpful! For your street photography, do you normally have your camera in Manual Mode or Aperture Priority? Thanks.
great video pat! thanks for this one off topic but I was curious, in every video (where you're also featured) about editing you keep saying that "color calibration needs it's own video" and you dont want to go to deep into that but when is this color calibration video coming? I cant wait :p
great question! honestly i don't get a lot of requests for this kind of video, and i've got a lot more other videos on the way, so i guess the answer is, i'm not sure! haha. if i get more requests for it then i'll do it sooner i guess?
@@patkay This is me filing an official request for a colour calibration video. It's signed in all the appropriate places and double-checked. Thank you for considering my request. ;D
